If the Packers were smart, they would just wait until the second round and grab Christine Michael.

I like a lot of the backs this year. As long as we stay AWAY from Lacy, Bell, and Ball, I am pretty much okay. Michael, Bernard, Franklin, Murray, totally cool with.

According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, there is "growing belief" around the NFL that the Bills will select Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib with the No. 8 overall pick if they can't trade down.

Credit Rotoworld draft man Josh Norris for passing along similar buzz over the past two days. Mort's report indicates Buffalo would prefer to trade down in the first round, but they're going to make sure they reunite Doug Marrone with college pupil Nassib regardless. The pick would surely be hailed as a "reach," but so was Ryan Tannehill at No. 8 a year ago, and that worked out just fine.

At least one NFL GM believes the 49ers are interested in moving up to No. 13 or 14 in the draft.

The 49ers have a league-high 13 picks and no more than seven or eight would be serious bets to make one of the NFL's best rosters. The Niners are likely to ship off later-round picks for 2014 selections while also attempting to trade up in the first round. They've been mentioned as a pursuer of West Virginia's Tavon Austin, but Yahoo's Jason Cole reports San Francisco "would like to get a defensive lineman who can eventually step in for veteran Justin Smith." BYU's Ziggy Ansah would be a high-upside addition in the first half of round one.

Source: Yahoo Sports

According to Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole, the Rams are "likely" to draft either Tavon Austin or DeAndre Hopkins with the No. 16 overall pick.

Presumably, St. Louis prefers Austin. But a number of teams drafting ahead of the Rams could use the all-purpose playmaker, too. The Rams have shown a considerable amount of pre-draft interest in Hopkins, who is more of a reliable possession receiver but with better ball skills and physicality than Austin. This is the first time we've seen Hopkins openly linked to the "teens" area of round one.

Source: Yahoo Sports

Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole reports West Virginia QB Geno Smith "could easily" fall out of the top-ten draft picks.

Seperately, we've heard rumblings that Smith's agent is "nervous" about how far his client may fall. It's believed Syracuse's Ryan Nassib has bypassed Smith to be the first quarterback drafted, with Buffalo at No. 8 as his likeliest landing spot. Smith could wind up falling into the teens or 20s unless a team like the QB-desperate Jets deems him worthy of one of their two top-13 picks.

WGR 550 Buffalo's Joe Buscaglia believes the Bills' pick at No. 8 overall is a "two-horse race" between Ryan Nassib and Matt Barkley.

Buscaglia is a plugged-in Bills beat writer and reporter. He says Buffalo "likes Barkley a lot," and it sounds like the two quarterbacks are neck-and-neck to go eighth overall. Because of their Nassib ties and his superior skill set to Barkley, we strongly suspect the Bills would prefer Nassib. In an ideal world, Buffalo would trade down in round one and still come away with a new QB.

NFL Draft insider Tony Pauline reports the Browns and Jets both have top-ten grades on Alabama CB Dee Milliner.

Cornerback is a prime need position in Cleveland, so Milliner makes great sense as the No. 6 pick. If he falls by the Browns, the Jets would be there to swoop up Milliner at No. 9, although cornerback is less of a need in New York after Antonio Cromartie showed so well in the Revis Island role last season. The Jets finished with a top-eight NFL defense despite Revis' 14 missed games.

NFL Draft insider Tony Pauline reports "several teams" grade Houston CB D.J. Hayden similar to Bills first-round pick Stephon Gilmore.

Gilmore was the 10th overall pick and turned out a stellar regular season, shadowing opposing No. 1 receivers after a slow start. Hayden's torn heart cavity has some teams concerned and others not, per Pauline. We believe Hayden is a strong candidate to be drafted much higher than mock drafts currently project him.

NFL Draft insider Tony Pauline reports the Jaguars are looking at "either" Oregon DE/LB Dion Jordan or the top offensive tackles at the No. 2 pick.

There is growing buzz about Jacksonville selecting a tackle at No. 2, though we tend to believe it may be a smokescreen in an effort to trade down. Jordan would be a fantastic pick for the Jags, upgrading the NFL's most sluggish pass rush while providing great range as a zone-dropping end or linebacker. Per Pauline, BYU's Ziggy Ansah would be a fallback target if the Jags trade down.

Yeah it wouldn't surprise me at all if we moved up in between picks 10-15 of the first round and grabbed a DE or CB.

NFL Draft insider Tony Pauline reports "several teams" have elevated Rice TE Vance McDonald to the No. 2 tight end on their draft boards.

Tyler Eifert is the consensus top-rated tight end, but it appears McDonald is bypassing Stanford's Zach Ertz. Pauline's report isn't the only time we've read or heard McDonald's stock is rising. He's very physical on college tape.

Although this year's quarterback class lacks a surefire franchise QB, Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell believes it is the deepest at quarterback in recent years.

The class lacks an Andrew Luck or RG3, but many prospects have starter tools with one or two flaws that may or may not prevent them from becoming franchise QBs. "Believe it or not," said Caldwell, "the quarterback group is better top to bottom than it has been in years past." Added Jaguars OC Jedd Fisch, "There are good quarterbacks out there. Take away last year because of the amount of guys that ended up starting and it's going to be a quarterback class like most."

NFL Network's Mike Mayock has pegged North Carolina State's Earl Wolff as his top sleeper at safety in the 2013 draft.

Wolff was a takeaway specialist in the ACC and had a terrific pre-draft workout, so he probably shouldn't have to be a "sleeper" at all. "If you go back and watch the tape, this kid is a good football player," said Mayock, who played safety in the NFL for Bill Parcells. "To most of America, he's a sleeper. To NFL teams, he's not. And he could've worked his way up to the third round."

At least one NFL scout believes the Rams "have" to take Texas FS Kenny Vaccaro with the No. 16 pick.

Yahoo Sports reported St. Louis would draft a wide receiver at 16, but safety is arguably a bigger need. The scout believes in-house SS Darian Stewart can replace outgoing Quintin Mikell, but the Rams don't have a free safety. "I think they have to take him," said the scout of Vaccaro. "I'd take Vaccaro. I think he's probably not as good as Earl Thomas, but he's up there. He's a legitimate guy."

The Steelers reportedly believe Tennessee's Tyler Bray is the most talented quarterback in the 2013 draft.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette allows "a lot of NFL teams" feel this way about Bray, but the Steelers could be eyeballing the big-armed thrower on the draft's third day. Most NFL coaches say the underclassman "needs to sit and learn for several years," but could grow into "a top-tier quarterback very similar to Joe Flacco." We expect Bray to be a second-day pick due strictly to his arm talent.

The Newark Star-Ledger confirms the Jets are "especially high" on LSU DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo.

ESPN New York, the Star-Ledger, ESPN's Adam Schefter, and SI's Peter King have now all linked Mingo to the Jets. So either the Jets are creating an enormous smokescreen or they're being transparent under rookie GM John Idzik. Idzik has made it clear the Jets would like to trade down from one of their spots in the top 13. They probably hope to secure Mingo with the other first-rounder.

Two separate NFL scouts say Florida DT Sharrif Floyd is overrated, with one going so far as to call Floyd a media creation.

It's worth noting Floyd had only 4.5 sacks in three college seasons. He's been touted hard by Greg Cosell, Mike Mayock, and Daniel Jeremiah, among others. "Those idiots on TV made Floyd," said one scout. "He's not that good. He's not better than Ziggy Hood." Asked if the Warren Sapp comparisons are valid, another scout replied "No. There's none of that. (Sapp) was just was more gifted than Floyd. Floyd is a good effort player. He's got shorter arms than (Sheldon) Richardson, and I think it shows. He gets kind of Velcroed on blockers."

Clemson WR DeAndre Hopkins will work out for the Rams for the second time in four days on Monday.

Per Scout.com's Aaron Wilson, coach Jeff Fisher will be in attendance. As observed by Rotoworld's Josh Norris, the Rams followed a similar pattern before using the No. 33 pick on Brian Quick last year. The question is whether Hopkins will still be on the board at No. 16. He's a possibility for the Panthers at 14.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Alabama CB Dee Milliner (shoulder surgery) may not be ready for training camp.

"We haven't been able to do the rehab like I want to because I've been going to different teams," Milliner said. "But once the draft is over, I'll be able to start to rehab it and try to get back on track." Per SI's Peter King, Milliner's shoulder is indeed beginning to concern teams, but he should still be ready at some point this preseason. Per reporter Jeff McLane, Milliner "may be in play" for the Eagles at No. 4, but likely won't be their pick unless they trade down. Once a good bet to go in the top five, Milliner may no longer be a top-ten lock.

SI's Peter King believes if the Falcons "had their way," they'd come out of the first-round with Missouri DT Sheldon Richardson.

However, King believes it would be "too costly" for the Falcons to trade up from No. 30 to get Richardson, who has a chance to go in the top-ten. Richardson isn't generating a ton of pre-draft buzz, but his "stock" hasn't slipped. He'll be on the stage in New York.

SI's Peter King believes Houston's D.J. Hayden may be the consensus top corner in the draft.

That's among actual teams, not draftniks. Hayden does check in ahead of Alabama's Dee Milliner in Mike Mayock's ratings. Hayden's potential rise past Milliner has as much to do with his own ability as increasing questions about Milliner's shoulder. Hayden is shaping up as a good bet to go in the top 16.

An NFL "scouting boss" tells SI's Peter King Oregon G/T Kyle Long will be a first-round pick.

Long has admitted to "chemical dependency" earlier in his college career, and is a former baseball player with just one year of experience playing big-time college football. He's also already 23 years old. Long has the measurables (6-foot-6, 313 pounds, 4.94 40) and pedigree (son of Howie, brother of Chris) to go in the first round, however. Long is still a better bet to go in round two, but could sneak onto the board at the end of day one.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the Browns are "considering" Oregon DE/OLB Dion Jordan with the No. 6 pick.

It's not exactly a surprise the Browns are "considering" one of the draft's best players, but it would be a surprise if Jordan is still on the board at No. 6. Jordan's selection could punch Jabaal Sheard's ticket out of town as a trade candidate. If Jordan gets by Jacksonville at No. 2, it's hard to see him slipping past both Philadelphia at No. 4 and Detroit at No. 5.

Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer

According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, the Cardinals are "high" on Oklahoma LT Lane Johnson.

It contradicts what the Arizona Republic reported on Sunday, which was that the Cardinals "feel better about their tackles than outsiders do," and would likely pass on Johnson if he slips to No. 7. That would create the possibility of Johnson falling to the Chargers at No. 11, or Dolphins at No. 12. NFL Network's Mike Mayock doesn't expect Johnson to even make it to No. 7.

Alabama CB Dee Milliner (shoulder surgery) expects to be 100 percent "some time in August at the latest," and insists teams aren't concerned.

Milliner underwent March surgery to repair a torn labrum. "They all seem fine with it," he said. "They know I'm going to come back strong from it. I don't think it will hurt my draft status." SI's Peter King reported Monday teams were beginning to grow concerned about Milliner's recovery. It's possible Houston's D.J. Hayden will leapfrog Milliner to be the first corner off the board.

An AFC coach who has "studied (him) extensively" believes USC QB Matt Barkley "has a personality that is going to take him a long way."

Yahoo's Mike Silver also reports a "high-level executive for one quarterback-needy franchise" was so underwhelmed by Barkley's arm strength at his Pro Day that he left early. Barkley is going to draw plaudits for leadership and intangibles, but it's his arm that's going to make-or-break his first-round status.

Source: Yahoo Sports

GM Dave Caldwell would be "surprised" if the Jaguars traded down from No. 2, and has a "pretty good idea" of whom he'll select.

Caldwell also said he ideally prefers "big school players," hinting he may pass up Central Michigan LT Eric Fisher. That's a major change in philosophy from former GM Gene Smith, who focused on small-school talents to the point of obsession. There's been noise the Jags may select an offensive tackle, but Oregon DE/OLB Dion Jordan, BYU DE Ziggy Ansah and even West Virginia QB Geno Smith are all more likely possibilities.

CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco provides four names to "watch" for the 49ers' No. 31 pick if they stay put: SMU DE Margus Hunt, Florida State DE/OLB Tank Carradine, FIU S Jon Cyprien, and Stanford TE Zach Ertz.

The 49ers are also believed to be interested in trading up, perhaps for Carradine. We expect Carradine and Cyprien to both be long gone by the 31st pick. San Francisco wants an eventual replacement for Justin Smith, and 6-foot-8, 277-pound Hunt could be a candidate to plug that hole. Ertz would probably be a fallback option. Buzz has died on him and he projects as a day-two pick.

According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, the Saints "seem quite intrigued" by Florida State DE/OLB Tank Carradine at the No. 15 pick.

Carradine was a 4-3 right end at FSU, but plenty of teams are intrigued by his fit as a 3-4 outside 'backer. He runs well at 6-foot-4, 273 and is bendy and extremely active. We suspect the Saints would draft Georgia's Jarvis Jones ahead of him, but Carradine is a better athlete and arguably offers more upside.

Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer conducted a private workout of Florida International S Johnathan Cyprien on Monday.

We don't typically post prospect visits and workouts because they're mostly meaningless during the pre-draft phase, but they do become interesting during the week of the draft. Two years ago, these same Bengals held a final-week workout with Andy Dalton and Christian Ponder, and wound up drafting Dalton with the 35th pick after Ponder went 12th. We suspect Cyprien is very much on Cincinnati's radar. He's also very much worth the 21st overall pick.

NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah believes Florida DT Sharrif Floyd could fall out of the top-ten picks if Oakland doesn't take him at No. 3.

We've been getting the same vibe; and don't believe the Raiders will take him at 3. The teams picking at Nos. 4-9 either "don't fit Floyd scheme-wise," per Jeremiah, "or they are set" at defensive tackle. We wouldn't be shocked if Floyd fell all the way to the Panthers at No. 14. He only appeals to 4-3 defenses.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on SportsCenter that the Jets' Rex Ryan was the lone NFL head coach in attendance at Houston CB D.J. Hayden's Monday Pro Day.

Hayden ran a 4.42 at his March Pro Day before suffering a hamstring injury during the workout, so he probably stood on that time. He did positional drills in front of NFL evaluators. Ryan's presence certainly suggests the Jets have interest in Hayden. He may be a candidate for one of their two first-rounders.

The Bengals conducted a private workout of Ohio State RT Reid Fragel on Monday.

Perhaps they're sending a message to the Andre Smith camp, or at the very least getting a feel for Smith's possible right-tackle successor. The Bengals have two second-round picks, and could use one of them on athletic-if-undersized Fragel. The former tight end packs just 308 pounds onto his 6-foot-8 frame.

According to NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah, there's "lots of buzz" Alabama RT D.J. Fluker will come off the board before college teammate OG Chance Warmack.

Both players have been ticketed for the first half of the first round for some time now, but the media is beginning to catch up with what teams have thought all along. Fluker has versatility to play both right tackle and right guard and offers more positional value than Warmack. Pure guards like Warmack almost unfailingly go lower than mocks project. (See David DeCastro last year.)

Appearing on NFL 32 Monday, ESPN's Todd McShay suggested Alabama CB Dee Milliner "might fall a little bit" on draft day.

We've gotten the same vibe. McShay cited teams' concerns about Milliner's "durability" and "not elite ball skills." A Monday morning report suggested Milliner wouldn't even be ready for training camp following shoulder surgery. On Monday's Mort Report, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Milliner's medical history includes a rod in his tibia near Milliner's ankle, a past knee scope, and hernia surgery. "There is some concern out there about Milliner and his medical history," Mortensen said. "And it's not misinformation, not trying to make a guy fall down (the draft) because all teams have this same information."

Appearing on Around the League, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said he would be "a little surprised" if the Browns didn't take Alabama CB Dee Milliner at No. 6.

Rapoport isn't "buying the buzz" that Milliner's stock is falling, and he also mentioned the Lions at No. 5 as a potential landing spot for the cornerback. It's hard to know what to believe in the heart of Lying Season. Milliner's medicals remain extensive enough to cause concern among NFL teams.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Notre Dame TE Tyler Eifert is "definitely a player among the most targeted for trade-up possibilities" in the draft.

Eifert is the consensus top tight end in the draft, and he's expected to be the only one drafted in the first round. Teams like the Bills at No. 8 and Jets at Nos. 9 and 13 need a tight end. Clubs in the bottom half of the first round that could use Eifert are the Steelers, Giants, Texans, Falcons, and 49ers.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports Titans coach Mike Munchak is "very high" on North Carolina OG Jonathan Cooper.

It's been a busy day for Cooper, who was also linked to the Cardinals at No. 7 by ESPN's Chris Mortensen. No. 10 would be early for a guard, but the Titans have a glaring need opposite Andy Levitre. Cooper would shore up a major need, while also placating Chris Johnson, who hasn't been shy about blaming his recent struggles on poor line play.

Source: CBSSports.com

"Sources" tell CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora the Lions will consider a guard at No. 5 if they can't trade down and OTs Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher are off the board.

It's the second time La Canfora has linked the Lions to a guard after he reported earlier this month Alabama's Chance Warmack wasn't "out of the question" at No. 5. The Lions have a hole at right guard, but it would be a major surprise if they became the first team in over 10 years to take a guard in the first 10 picks, especially since 2012 first-rounder Riley Reiff is looking like he might stick on the interior.

Source: CBSSports.com

According to NFL.com's Albert Breer, "some" teams view the Rams' No. 22 pick as a "potential landing place" for clubs that want to move up and draft a quarterback in the back half of round one.

Our tentative expectation is West Virginia's Geno Smith, USC's Matt Barkley, Florida State's E.J. Manuel, and NC State's Mike Glennon will still all be on the board at the 22nd pick. The Rams will likely use their earlier first-rounder (No. 16) on a wide receiver or perhaps safety, but the 22nd pick may very well be for sale. Clubs potentially interested in a deal like this might include the Jaguars, Eagles, Cardinals, Jets, and Bills.

Source: NFL.com

According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, there's "no way" West Virginia WR Tavon Austin would get past the Rams at No. 16.

That's been the sentiment for some time, but Austin is extremely unlikely to even make it to No. 16. The Rams seem to have realized this, appearing to lock in on Clemson's DeAndre Hopkins in recent days. Per La Canfora, the Jets "like" Austin at No. 9.

Source: CBSSports.com

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib is "definitely in play" for the Bills at No. 8.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Sunday there was a "growing belief" the Bills would target Doug Marrone's college quarterback in the first round, but that they would prefer to do so via a trade down. Regardless, it's clear the Bills are ready to pull the trigger at No. 8 if they can't engineer a move to a more sensible part of the first round. There are no "sure things" in this year's muddled draft, but Nassib-to-Buffalo is shaping up as one of the surer things.

Source: CBSSports.com

"Multiple league sources" believe the Jets will select a guard and a pass-rusher with the Nos. 9 and 13 picks.

Reliable Jets beat reporter Rich Cimini believes a cornerback could also "be in play." (The Jets have shown heavy interest in Houston's D.J. Hayden.) NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported two weeks ago the Jets "may" take a guard at No. 9, while they've been connected to LSU's Barkevious Mingo and Georgia's Jarvis Jones on the pass-rushing front. Guard and outside rusher are both major trouble spots for Gang Green. Really, most positions are.

Source: ESPN New York

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora is hearing LSU DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo connected to the Eagles "more and more."

Mingo and his myriad question marks would be a leap of faith at No. 4, so it could be a sign the Eagles are serious about trading down. Mingo has 4.58 wheels, and athleticism to spare. He'd be a highly intriguing, if hard to predict, option on the edge in Philly's new 3-4 defense.

Source: Jason La Canfora on Twitter

NFL Network's Mike Mayock predicted on Path to the Draft that the Raiders will either select Oklahoma LT Lane Johnson or Florida DT Sharrif Floyd at the No. 3 overall pick.

Mayock is convinced Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher will go 1-2. Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie's roster is the least talented in football, so he'll stick to his board and draft the best left. If that's Johnson, he'll be the pick regardless of the fact that he'd play right tackle in Oakland. If that's Floyd, he'll fit an immediate need. We also wouldn't rule out Oakland selecting Star Lotulelei.

NFL Network's Albert Breer reported on Total Access that the Eagles have narrowed the No. 4 pick down to four players.

"At this point," said Breer, "the likelihood is they go with either an offensive lineman or a defensive front player." The four identities are not known, but Breer mentioned the top-three offensive tackles, in addition to Oregon DE/LB Dion Jordan and Utah DT Star Lotulelei. Breer essentially ruled out West Virginia QB Geno Smith going fourth overall, but did mention Florida State QB E.J. Manuel as a candidate for Philly's second-round pick (No. 35)

Tulane's Ryan Griffin has conducted more pre-draft workouts than any other quarterback in the draft.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen busted out the #sleeper hashtag for the Green Wave signal caller, who's met with the Jaguars, Eagles, Chargers and Steelers, presumably among others. A four-year starter at Tulane, Griffin stands in at 6-foot-4 and 221 pounds. He'll be a day-three pick.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Eagles "reached out" to West Virginia WR Tavon Austin on Monday.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported earlier Tuesday the Eagles were trying to trade back from No. 4, so perhaps Austin could be a legitimate possibility for Chip Kelly's first NFL draft pick. Austin would be a dream fit as a movable chess piece in Kelly's forward-thinking offense, but Philly is still low on his list of possible landing spots.

Source: Ian Rapoport on Twitter

ESPN's Chris Mortensen suggested in NFL 32 Tuesday that North Carolina OG Jonathan Cooper could be Arizona's pick at No. 7.

Oklahoma LT Lane Johnson is Bruce Arians and Steve Keim's preferred target, but Johnson isn't getting out of the top-five picks. "If (Johnson) isn't there," Mort said, "don't be surprised if they pick Jonathan Cooper, the North Carolina guard who offers versatility." Mort's report suggests Arizona may be locked into an offensive lineman at No. 7, although pass rusher can't be ruled out.

LSU CB/PR Tyrann Mathieu "had to blow off" two team visits after getting sick last week.

FOX Sports' Jay Glazer intimates it didn't sit well with some teams, but that Mathieu was legitimately ill. If he was sick, he was sick, but even the appearance of a slip-up isn't good for Mathieu in the build up to this week's draft. Glazer expects Mathieu to come off the board on day two. We agree.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Chiefs GM John Dorsey called Florida DT Sharrif Floyd to "check on him" Monday.

It could very easily mean nothing, but draft-week maneuvering is always more noteworthy than the months of visits and speculation that comes before it. Floyd wouldn't be an inconceivable reach at No. 1, but it could be a sign the Chiefs believe they're in position to trade down. Floyd could go in the top-five, but may free-fall if he gets past Oakland at No. 3. Floyd isn't a good fit for 3-4 defenses.

Source: Ian Rapoport on Twitter

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on NFL Live that opinions of Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib are "all across the board" among teams, and one club even gave Nassib an undrafted free agent grade.

"Some teams say they have him rated as the top quarterback on the board," Schefter stated. "I've heard other teams say they have him as nothing more than a fourth-round pick. I even had one team tell me that their coaches didn't consider him draftable, and they're not putting him on their board and they're not studying him." Fans would be astounded at differing opinions on prospects among teams. As the saying goes, "all it takes is one" to fall in love with Nassib and make him a first-round pick, which almost surely will happen.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the "feeling is" OTs Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher will be the first two players off the board on Thursday.

In other words, no surprises. Kansas City has long been open to trading the No. 1 pick, but Jacksonville appears ready to stay put at No. 2. It's entirely unclear what the Raiders have planned at No. 3. Al Davis would be proud.

Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter

An anonymous scout tells the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel his team has removed Notre Dame ILB Manti Te'o from its draft board.

"We've kind of taken him off the board," the scout said. "He doesn't have enough ability to put up with all (his off-the-field issues). Why fool with it? ... This was the first year he's really gotten himself in shape. Some of his teammates think he's kind of a phony." Another scout called Te'o a pretty good player in the "grand scheme" of things, but believes he's a second-round talent. Te'o is a fringe first-round prospect, but will undoubtedly be talked up as one of the most important prospects of the past decade during ESPN and NFL Network's draft coverage.

Georgia OLB Jarvis Jones insists his 4.92 time in the 40-yard dash shouldn't be an issue on draft night.

"Brandon Spikes ran a 4.95 and he's a good player," Jones reasoned. "Terrell Suggs was one of those guys and he's causing sacks. It doesn't matter, man. I feel that way. Once you're on the field, it's all about pursuit and angles. ... If I'm a student of the game, if I know what you're doing before you do it, it doesn't matter how fast you are." The most productive pass-rusher in the SEC last season, Jones has an outside shot at breaching the top-ten.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Dolphins are willing to trade up in addition to trading back.

Per Schefter, they are "exploring both options." Schefter also confirms the Falcons have shown "some willingness" to trade up. The amount of pre-draft speculation will soon become overwhelming bordering on worthless, but it's been well-established that both Miami and Atlanta will be willing to make draft-night moves.

Alabama RT D.J. Fluker is insisting his Twitter account had been hacked when he tweeted he took money from agents in college.

"Yea I took $ n college so wat. I did wat i had to do. Agents was tryin to pimp me so I pimped them. Cast da 1st stone," Fluker — or the alleged "hacker" — tweeted Monday evening. If it was a hack, it was remarkably specific. It's unlikely to greatly affect Fluker's draft stock, but it won't help a player whose "study and work habits" have been questioned. Fluker has been strongly linked to a number of teams picking in the top-12.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the Eagles are trying to trade back from the No. 4 pick.

According to "two NFL sources," GM Howie Roseman has reached out to "at least" two other GMs in an effort to arrange a trade if the Eagles "don’t like what players are left on the board." The Eagles have been mocked a wide range of players, with no real consensus emerging. Andy Reid left behind a team with needs at many positions. Addressing the offensive line, defensive line or secondary will all be possibilities for the Eagles on Thursday evening.

After studying Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib's college game film, NFL Network's Kurt Warner came away surprised Nassib is being considered a first-round pick.

"Watching film of this guy — not overly impressive," Warner said. "If you’re drafting a quarterback in the first round, you’re drafting a franchise QB, a guy who you believe can win Super Bowls. Otherwise, why draft a guy that high? You need a guy that can do everything, and I didn’t see on film this guy having the ability to do everything. He didn’t wow me." Nassib has emerged as one of the draft's most polarizing prospects. We still think the Bills will take him in round one.

Texans GM Rick Smith is "almost in awe" of Houston CB D.J. Hayden.

"He's a heck of a player," Smith said Tuesday. Smith may be buttering up a local product, but there's no reason the Texans shouldn't at least consider Hayden if he's still on the board at No. 27. He's just unlikely to fall that far. Hayden surpassing Dee Milliner as the draft's top cornerback appears to be more smoke than fire, but he has a good chance to go in the first 16 picks.

Based on information collected from 22 teams, NFL Draft insider Tony Pauline reports Alabama's Dee Milliner remains the "unanimous choice" as the draft's top-rated cornerback.

The Milliner medical leak detailing five career surgeries since he landed at Alabama has to be concerning, but won't be enough to torpedo Milliner's draft stock to the point that he falls out of the top 15. Even if Milliner doesn't go in the top ten, the Dolphins at No. 12, Jets at 13, Panthers at 14, and Saints at 15 could all use a rock-solid young corner. The Falcons have rumored interest in trading up, perhaps to target Milliner in the first half of round one.

NFL Draft insider Tony Pauline the "top suitors" for Florida State DE Tank Carradine are the Dolphins, Giants, and Vikings.

Carradine has had a "lot of recent contact" with the Fins, who are trying to trade down and may target him as the weak-side edge rusher they need to book end Cam Wake. Even if Miami can't execute a trade, Pauline considers Carradine a "real possibility" for the 12th pick, particularly if the Dolphins acquire Branden Albert. Pauline also mentions Atlanta as a possibility for Carradine.

NFL Network's Mike Mayock stated on Path to the Draft that he only anticipates one quarterback being drafted in the first round.

It'll likely be Syracuse's Ryan Nassib, who is crystallizing as the draft's top QB. "I don’t think there’s going to be more than one quarterback taken in the first round, which is not what I thought three months ago," Mayock said. "I think there’s still going to be some activity at the back end of that first round, but most of the activity for quarterbacks this year? I think second and third rounds." It's not out of the question that West Virginia's Geno Smith could be available for the Jaguars at No. 33 overall.

Sources tell the Miami Herald that the Dolphins are seriously trying to trade down from the No. 12 overall pick.

The Dolphins aren't alone thanks to this flat draft. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported earlier Tuesday that the Eagles, Lions, Browns and Bills are among other teams interested in trading back. The Dolphins could be looking to acquire another second-round pick in case they have to give up one of theirs in a potential Branden Albert deal. They could address their hole at corner later in the first round with fast-rising Houston CB D.J. Hayden.

The New York Daily News says Jets fans "should familiarize" themselves with Georgia OLB Jarvis Jones.

The nugget comes from beat writer Manish Mehta, the most plugged-in reporter on the beat. The Jets are absolutely desperate for a true edge rusher at outside linebacker and now hold both the No. 9 and 13 picks in the first round. Oregon's Dion Jordan and BYU's Ziggy Ansah will likely be gone, leaving Jones as a strong option. Perhaps the most feared pass rusher in the SEC, Jones recorded 14.5 sacks as a junior last season.

The Florida Times Union expects the Jaguars to decide between Eric Fisher, Luke Joeckel, Ziggy Ansah, and Dion Jordan with the No. 2 overall pick.

Dave Caldwell is a rookie GM, and he may not want to go particularly bold with his first-ever draft pick, relying on the best-player-available strategy. The Times Union considers Fisher "the safest pick" if Joeckel goes No. 1 to the Chiefs, which is expected. From the perspective that they face J.J. Watt twice a year, the Jaguars are likely to give Fisher serious consideration at No. 2.

"Several league sources" tell the Cleveland Plain Dealer they believe Alabama CB Dee Milliner's medical history was leaked to the media in a "smear campaign" before the draft.

The medical report -- which includes a torn labrum in Milliner's shoulder, a past knee scope, a rod in his tibia, and a past hernia surgery -- was reported Monday by both Chris Mortensen of ESPN and NFL Network's Charley Casserly. "Teams have known about these surgeries all along," a source told the Plain Dealer. "They haven't been a secret and this is not a big issue." Mortensen insisted on air that the medical report is "not misinformation," and corroborated the source's side, saying "all teams have this same information."

The Bears will work out NC State QB Mike Glennon on Tuesday.

Jay Cutler is in a contract year, and it's been clear the Bears won't extend him this offseason. He's on notice. With only Josh McCown and Matt Blanchard in reserve, the Bears are a sleeper team to draft a quarterback on the second day. It could be Glennon. It could be Matt Barkley, or Tyler Wilson. But Chicago isn't entering the season with just McCown and Blanchard backing up Cutler.

Citing a source familiar with the situation, NFL Draft insider Tony Pauline reports the Raiders will select the "surest of the sure" player available at the No. 3 overall pick.

Of course, Aaron Curry and Rolando McClain were considered "safe" picks before recent drafts, and both became busts. The sure-thing draft prospect is incredibly rare; there are maybe one or two per year. The two this year appear to be left tackles Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher, although the growing belief is they'll be the first and second overall picks. If that happens, Pauline's sources expect Oakland to select Florida DT Sharrif Floyd or Utah DT Star Lotulelei.

NFL Draft insider Tony Pauline seconds a CBS Sports report that Oklahoma LT Lane Johnson is the Cardinals' "round one target."

The Arizona Republic reported Sunday that the Cardinals "feel better about their tackles than outsiders do" and "would pass" on Johnson if given the chance at No. 7. We don't think they'll get that chance anyway, but Pauline reports the club prefers Levi Brown at right tackle and Bobby Massie at right guard. Arizona's biggest roster need is on immobile Carson Palmer's blindside.

NFL Draft insider Tony Pauline reports the Titans and Chargers are both considering Alabama RT D.J. Fluker at Nos. 10 and 11, respectively.

Our best guess is Tennessee ends up with North Carolina OG Jonathan Cooper at No. 10 and San Diego will take Fluker at 11, but it's not out of the question that they flip-flop. The Titans reportedly view Fluker as a "day-one starter" at right guard, and he would offer superior power-blocking ability to Cooper.

The Bears put Syracuse OL Justin Pugh through a private workout over the weekend.

Their interest could be real, or it could be a smokescreen less than a week before the draft. A left tackle in college, Pugh is being projected by most teams as a guard or even center. Pugh is athletic and was a strong pass protector in the Big East. The Bears are going to pass a lot under new coach Marc Trestman.

LSU CB/PR Tyrann Mathieu passed his Combine drug test.

As NFL Network's Albert Breer notes, it's a "fairly significant development" for the Honey Badger's draft outlook. Mathieu admitted to drug addiction before his dismissal from LSU, but he appears to have cleaned up his act while being mentored by Patrick Peterson this offseason. Mathieu will obviously present some risk as a day-two prospect, but he is a legitimately great player on film with a rare ability to take the football away and score touchdowns on both defense and special teams. We suspect Mathieu will be drafted in round three.

Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports is "hearing" the Falcons' goal in a possible trade up is a pass-rushing defensive end.

Cole specifically mentions Florida State's Bjoern Werner as a target, and says the highest the Falcons can "probably" trade up to is No. 22 or 23 overall. Atlanta currently holds the 30th pick. Another defensive end target for the Falcons could be Werner's teammate at Florida State, Tank Carradine.

Yahoo! Sports' Jason Cole says it "sounds like" the Browns are "definitely" going pass rusher with their first-round pick.

Colleague Mike Silver adds that the Browns could trade up to the Raiders' No. 3 spot, and he believes the target is BYU's Ezekiel Ansah. The Eagles at No. 4 and the Lions at No. 5 are also likely eyeing pass rushers if one of the top offensive tackles doesn't make it to them, so the jump up to No. 3 for the Browns could be a necessary move to ensure they get who they want. Ansah could play end or outside linebacker in the 3-4.

Yahoo! Sports' Jason Cole reports the Chiefs' coaches want Central Michigan LT Eric Fisher, but the scouts prefer Texas A&M LT Luke Joeckel at No. 1 overall.

GM John Dorsey falls into the "scouts" group and prefers big school prospects. Cole adds that the organization is "debating" the pick, but stresses there is not a "rift." As we've previously said, if Dorsey is making the pick it will likely be Joeckel, but if coach Andy Reid is calling the shots then it will likely be Fisher.

The New York Daily News reports the Jets are interested in Notre Dame TE Tyler Eifert but not at No. 13 overall.

The Bills at No. 8, the Dolphins at No. 12, or the Jets at No. 13 is the highest Eifert would likely go, but those three teams would rather trade back and then grab Eifert if possible. The Jets badly need an upgrade on Jeff Cumberland.

FOX Sports' Jay Glazer, NFL Network's Mike Mayock, Ian Rapoport and Albert Breer, and CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora are now all predicting the Chiefs will draft Central Michigan LT Eric Fisher at No. 1 overall.

We can't leave out CBS Sports draft analyst Dane Brugler, who's had Fisher atop his mock drafts since January. Meanwhile, USA Today's Lindsay Jones reported Wednesday evening that the Chiefs are still fielding trade calls regarding the No. 1 pick. The trade-down option is likely a fallback plan in case GM John Dorsey can't unload Branden Albert. We believe Dorsey will trade Albert to the Dolphins and either take Fisher or Luke Joeckel first overall.

Source: Lindsay Jones on Twitter

FOX Sports' Jay Glazer predicts the Chiefs will draft Central Michigan LT Eric Fisher with the No. 1 overall pick.

Glazer is very arguably the most plugged-in, accurate NFL reporter, so his prediction is certainly noteworthy. We've been doing this a long time and truly cannot ever remember him being wrong. Glazer acknowledges "most believe" Kansas City will draft Texas A&M's Luke Joeckel, but expects the Chiefs to lean toward Fisher's "nastiness" in the run game over Joeckel's pass-blocking savvy.

Source: Jay Glazer on Twitter

According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, Notre Dame TE Tyler Eifert is "always in the mix" when rival executives speculate about the Falcons trading up from No. 30.

The Falcons need an heir apparent for Tony Gonzalez, and Eifert is the consensus top tight end in this year's class. Eifert's been talked up as a potential top-ten pick, however, while the Falcons have greater needs at outside rusher and cornerback. The former Golden Domer is unlikely to grace the Georgia Dome's sidelines this season.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Total Access the Jaguars "are taking" Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib if he's available at No. 33.

We previously mentioned whispers of this. Rapport believes -- maybe more accurately knows -- Nassib would be Jacksonville's selection at the top of round two. Nassib isn't going to make it there, though, and rookie GM Dave Caldwell is unlikely to trade up for him while working with just seven picks. The Jags are obviously high on Nassib. They're simply not going to get him.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Lions "love" North Carolina OG Jonathan Cooper.

We can't predict the draft -- no one can -- and shocking picks happen every year. But Detroit selecting Cooper in the top five would be truly jaw dropping. Per Rapoport, the Lions love Cooper's potential as either a guard or center with second-level movement skills, blocking downfield in front of Reggie Bush. What has become clear is Cooper will be drafted ahead of Chance Warmack, and we tend to suspect it won't be particularly close.

NFL Network's Charley Casserly indicated on Path to the Draft that the Rams may be willing to trade up to secure Tavon Austin.

"It seems the Rams aren't content to sit there (at No. 16)," Casserly said. "People they've talked to in trades think the guy they want is Tavon Austin." As Austin has been linked to clubs as high as No. 4 overall, it's become clear he won't make it to the 16th pick. With two first-rounders and four selections in the top 78, the Rams have ammo to move up for Austin if they so choose.

Of teams picking in the top-ten, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport considers the Raiders the most likely to trade down.

The Raiders have been strongly connected to Florida DT Sharrif Floyd, but he could be landed lower than No. 3. With just three picks in the first five rounds and an embarrassing dearth of young talent on his roster, GM Reggie McKenzie desperately needs to accumulate more selections.

The New York Daily News reports West Virginia's Geno Smith is the No. 1 QB on the Jets' draft board.

It's not surprising, but is another indication that Wednesday morning's ESPN report of the Jets' interest in Ryan Nassib was a likely smokescreen. Smith is atop the Jets' quarterback rankings, but that doesn't necessarily mean they consider him a top-15 prospect. For all we know, they could have given him a second-round grade. The Jets are more likely to select a guard, wide receiver, pass rusher, or cornerback with the Nos. 9 and 13 overall picks.

Source: Manish Mehta on Twitter

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported on NFL 32 that the Bills are "more likely than not" to select Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib at No. 8 overall.

"I think the speculation is on the mark," said Mort. "I think the Buffalo Bills at No. 8 could make Nassib the first quarterback chosen in this draft. ... I think that has a better chance of happening than not." Although some smoke blew recently that the Bills might have a better grade on Matt Barkley than Nassib, the college coaching staff connection is going to be hard for Doug Marrone to resist.

Appearing on NFL 32 Wednesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported "there's some chatter" the Browns could trade up from No. 6 to select LSU DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo.

"It could be a frenetic first round," Schefter said. Mingo has been bandied about as a potential slider, but NFL front offices know better. This also bucks recent speculation that the Browns would prefer to trade down. The NFL Draft has always been hard to predict, but it's proving to be downright vexing this season.

Stationed at the Vikings' Winter Park facility, ESPN's Bob Holtzman reported there's a "good chance" GM Rick Spielman will use either the No. 23 or 25 overall pick on a wide receiver.

"Based on what I've been told from the people I've talked to here," Holtzman reported, "there's a good chance one of the two first-round picks will be used on a wide receiver." The Vikings signed Greg Jennings and brought back Jerome Simpson, but Simpson isn't a quality starter and the position lacks depth behind Jarius Wright. Cordarrelle Patterson, DeAndre Hopkins, and perhaps Justin Hunter could be in play for Minnesota in the 20s.

A source tells the Philadelphia Inquirer the Eagles have been calling Oklahoma LT Lane Johnson "a lot recently."

ESPN's Sal Paolantonio passed along earlier Wednesday that the Eagles are indeed targeting a tackle at No. 4. A freak athlete built more like a power forward than offensive tackle, Johnson would be a highly intriguing fit for Chip Kelly's breakneck offense.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram suggests the Cowboys will target Oklahoma State RB Joseph Randle in the draft.

The Cowboys need a Felix Jones replacement. We have a number of issues with Randle's game -- he can't make anyone miss and is truly brutal in pass protection -- but his running style is similar to Cowboys starter DeMarco Murray's.

Citing a "source (he) trust(s)," CBS Sports' Clark Judge reports the Falcons are trying to trade up for a cornerback.

Judge reports it would be Dee Milliner or Xavier Rhodes. Perhaps the Falcons' most needy position is right cornerback, opposite LCB Asante Samuel. And it's been clear for over a week now that GM Thomas Dimitroff isn't satisfied with the 30th overall pick. We tend to believe Milliner would be Dimitroff's preferred target. Dimitroff is tight with Milliner's college coach, Nick Saban.

South Carolina RB Marcus Lattimore (ACL, MCL, LCL surgery) says the 49ers, Rams, Patriots, and Eagles have shown the most interest in him.

Lattimore ostensibly visited each of those four teams. He'd make great sense in San Francisco, which has the NFL's most picks (13) and isn't necessarily targeting players who will contribute in 2013. He could "redshirt" there. The Eagles also have a ton of picks. Rams coach Jeff Fisher might see Lattimore as his next potential Eddie George. The Patriots may be doing due diligence.

Florida State QB E.J. Manuel believes the Eagles want him "pretty bad."

Manuel's boast comes on the heels of a report that he come could off the board in the first 20 picks. He'd be viewed as a massive reach at No. 4, but the Eagles are known to be interested in trading back. Per CSN Philly's Geoff Mosher, "no quarterback's stock has soared more" this week than Manuel's. Buckle up.

Both NFL Network's Albert Breer and SI's Peter King believe the Bills may prefer Matt Barkley to Ryan Nassib.

King believes Buffalo is "seriously targeting" Barkley. We have a hard time buying this for several reasons, not the least of which is Barkley's weak arm in the inclement Buffalo weather. They also play in New York (Jets) and Foxboro (Patriots) each year. Barkley is a day-two prospect at best on game tape. Of course, the Bills under GM Buddy Nix are not averse to draft-day curveballs.

ESPN New York passes along "buzz around the league" that the Jets will NOT select a quarterback in the first round.

In a small bit of ESPN-on-ESPN (New York) crime, Jets beat writer Rich Cimini is reporting the Jets "like" Syracuse's Ryan Nassib but likely won't take him in round one, while ESPN's Sal Paolantonio has called the Jets a threat to poach Nassib away from the Bills. Per Cimini, West Virginia's Geno Smith is a draft "wildcard," but not likely to end up donning the Green and White.

NFL Network's Michelle Beisner reports the Cardinals have Chance Warmack lower on their draft board than Jonathan Cooper.

The buzz on Warmack over the past 48 hours has been remarkably quiet, while Cooper is clearly a hot name. Warmack will not be the BPA at No. 7 overall.

TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline reports UConn LB Sio Moore is drawing "great interest" from the Ravens.

Per Pauline, Moore is drawing "a lot of interest around the league." Touted as scheme versatile, Moore would man the inside in Baltimore. He's viewed as more of a day-two pick, but could be a possibility for the Ravens at No. 32.

Citing multiple sources, NFL Draft insider Tony Pauline reports the Raiders "will consider" trading down with the Lions if one of the draft's top-two left tackles is available at No. 3.

There are a lot of "ifs" here, but it'd be a trade rebuilding Oakland would love to do, and address a massive weakness in Detroit. It's logical. If the Chiefs draft Luke Joeckel and the Jaguars take Dion Jordan, the Lions would then trade up with the Raiders to select Eric Fisher. The Raiders would move down, perhaps add a third-rounder, and take their highest-rated player left at No. 5. Per Pauline, that would be either Sharrif Floyd or Star Lotulelei.

Source: TFY Draft Insider

According to TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline, the Jets will consider a quarterback with an "early choice."

Pauline is presumably referring to the Jets' first-round choices, at No. 9 and 13. ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reported earlier Wednesday that new Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg is "very high" on Syracuse's Ryan Nassib. It could very well be legitimate interest on behalf of a QB-needy team, or a ploy to scare division-rival Buffalo into pulling the trigger on Nassib at No. 8.

Alabama RT D.J. Fluker is maintaining his Twitter account was hacked when he posted that he had taken money from agents in college.

"I'm not frustrated about it because, at the end of the day, it wasn't me," Fluker said. "(NFL teams) know it's not me. They look at my Twitter and see it's all Bible verses or motivational tweets." At this point, Fluker would probably be better off just letting the story die than continuing to bring it up. Fluker has been connected as high as the Cardinals at No. 7, but that would be unusually early for an offensive-line prospect that doesn't play left tackle.

ESPN's Ed Werder reported Wednesday that "most people around the league expect" the Chiefs to draft Luke Joeckel with the No. 1 overall pick.

Werder acknowledged there's still a bit of uncertainty since the Chiefs have not negotiated with either Joeckel or Eric Fisher, but GMs and personnel men believe the former will go first overall. "This a player that GM John Dorsey has followed since very early in his college career," said Werder. Added ESPN's Todd McShay, "From what I'm told, the Kansas City Chiefs were absolutely blown away by Luke Joeckel in their one-on-one interview with him."

Alabama CB Dee Milliner (shoulder surgery) says he'll be "perfectly fine" for training camp.

"I don't know who started that accusation, but I feel fine for the most part," he said. "I'll start back rehabbing hard after the draft, whatever team chooses me, and I'll be fine." Milliner's lengthy surgery history — he's gone under the knife five times — has been a hot topic in recent days, but doesn't appear likely to prevent Milliner from being drafted in the top-15 selections.

Despite a meniscus tear in his knee, Mississippi State CB Darius Slay worked out for the Falcons last Friday and reportedly looked "great."

NFL teams are well aware of Slay's injury. Some doctors have informed Slay he doesn't knee surgery, while others believe an operation "would be preferable." Slay's injury isn't a long-term concern, but interested clubs may worry he won't contribute much as a rookie if he misses a large chunk of training camp. A second-rounder on game tape, Slay could be a great value in the third round.

CSN Philadelphia passes along "a lot of buzz today" about Florida State QB E.J. Manuel going in the top-20 picks on Thursday night.

Our initial reaction is skepticism, but the NFL draft isn't predictable and teams that covet high-ceiling quarterbacks will be very high on strong-armed, athletic Manuel. On SportsCenter Wednesday, ESPN's Ron Jaworski agreed Manuel has the "highest upside of any QB in this class" and rated him the position's No. 3 prospect, behind only Geno Smith and Ryan Nassib. We don't believe Manuel would last beyond the Eagles' second-rounder at No. 35.

NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah "could see" the Cardinals taking NC State QB Mike Glennon with the No. 38 pick.

Jeremiah — who's been money all spring — isn't passing along a report, but informed speculation. ESPN's Chris Mortensen passed along similar speculation last month. The Cardinals privately worked out Glennon on March 25. His big arm would make him a nice developmental project in Bruce Arians' vertical attack.

NFL.com's Jeff Darlington doesn't expect Texas FS Kenny Vaccaro to get past the Rams at No. 16.

Vaccaro is the apple of safety-needed Dallas' eye, but it doesn't look like there's any way he'll slip by both the Saints at 15 and St. Louis. Owner Jerry Jones isn't shy about trading up to get his man, but is short on ammo, and has many other needs. Vaccaro is going to hold a lot of sway over picks 10-20.

ESPN's Sal Paolantonio stated on Philly's 97.5 The Fanatic that he's heard the Eagles are targeting a tackle at No. 4 overall, with West Virginia's Tavon Austin as the primary fallback option.

Paolantonio's Eagles nuggets are always notable because he's covered the team for years and is so plugged-in. "Here is what a general manager told me [on Monday]," Sal Pal said, "'I know the Eagles want a tackle.' And if those are all gone, he said, 'Don't be shocked if Chip Kelly takes Tavon Austin No. 4.'" Because of his athletic movement skills, Oklahoma's Lane Johnson may be the Eagles' top target. Austin would be an exciting alternative.

LSU CB/PR Tyrann Mathieu is holding a Thursday draft party for "1st round draft pick Tyrann Mathieu, AKA Honey Badger of LSU."

Mathieu has spent the pre-draft process trying to rehabilite his image — and shed the "Honey Badger" moniker — but it's clear he still has a ways to go. In Mathieu's defense, it's extremely unlikely he worded his own party flier, but we're again seeing why nine of 12 personnel people polled by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel said they wouldn't even sign him as an undrafted free agent. On top of everything else, Mathieu's party is going to be a dud, as there's a zero percent chance he's a first-round pick.

According to TFY Draft Insider, the Falcons have "intense interest" in Boise State CB Jamar Taylor.

After letting Brent Grimes walk in free agency, the Falcons have a glaring hole opposite Asante Samuel. ESPN's Todd McShay suggested on SportsCenter that West Virginia's Tavon Austin is in play for the No. 8 overall pick.

McShay said Austin is a hot name and he's "even heard in the last couple days there's a possibility that the Bills could take him at No. 8." We wonder if the division-rival Bills and Jets are jockeying against one another at Nos. 8 and 9. Word leaked early Wednesday that the Jets might poach obvious Bills target Ryan Nassib in the first round. Now, the Bills may be spreading word they're willing to select likely Jets target Austin before New York goes on the clock.

The Baltimore Sun suggests the Ravens are interested in trading up for Oklahoma LT Lane Johnson.

The Ravens hold the last selection in round one as part of their 12-pick arsenal. GM Ozzie Newsome certainly has ammo to get into the top-10 and nab a long-term solution on Joe Flacco's blindside. Kelechi Osemele is penciled into the spot right now, but he is a natural guard. Free agent Bryant McKinnie, who handled the job with flying colors during the Super Bowl run, comes with significant baggage.

Of 12 NFL personnel people polled by the Journal-Sentinel, nine said they would not draft LSU CB/PR Tyrann Mathieu or sign him as a free agent.

"He's a hell of a punt returner, but he's not that great a player," said one personnel man. "Besides, we got enough guys on our team that smoke dope. Why do I want one that might be smoking it in his room the night before a game?" Mathieu's marijuana issues have been well documented, but he passed his Combine drug test and appears to have turned a corner. There's enough talent here that a team will take a shot on Day 2 of the draft. "I did not want to like him, but he is fantastic," another scout said. "I know he's 5-8 3/4, but when you watch that tape all he does is make plays, and he's an excellent returner."

ESPN's Adam Schefter wouldn't be shocked if Notre Dame TE Tyler Eifert was a top-10 pick.

It's a good time to be the consensus top tight end available. The position is all the rage in the NFL these days and teams are scurrying to get two talented ones on their roster. The Browns at No. 6, Bills at No. 8, Jets at Nos. 9 and 13, Dolphins at No. 12 and Steelers at 17 all have needs at tight end.

Coach Mike Munchak says the Titans are in pursuit of a true press corner who can get physical with wide receivers at the line of scrimmage.

The Titans face Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne, and Justin Blackmon twice per year in the AFC South. "We'll definitely look at a corner ... that has those kinds of abilities," said Munchak. "That can get up in your face and play a little more man to man." While the logical connection might be Florida State's Xavier Rhodes, press corners are often found in the draft's mid to late rounds.

ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reported on SportsCenter Wednesday that Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg is "very high" on Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib, and the Bills are worried the Jets will poach him.

As Sal Pal alluded to, the Jets "control the first round" to some extent with the Nos. 9 and 13 selections, either or even both of which could be used as trade bait for a coveted player such as Tavon Austin or if a top-five player surprisingly falls. Both the Jets and Bills have QB needs and are very high on Nassib. "I know one thing for sure in talking to people around the league," Paolantonio reported. "The Buffalo Bills want Ryan Nassib. But they're very concerned the Jets will take him later in the first round. So the Bills may be forced to take him at No. 8."

The Daily News believes the Giants may have interest in Notre Dame ILB Manti Te'o.

"I think there's people with a lot more issues than this," GM Jerry Reese said when asked about Te'o's character questions. The Giants have a clear middle linebacker need, where Mark Herzlich is currently penciled in. Te'o will almost certainly be available when the Giants are on the clock at No. 19 overall.

Sources tell ProFootballTalk.com that Mississippi State CB Darius Slay has a torn meniscus in his knee.

Slay did not miss a game last season and blazed a 4.36 forty at the Combine. So it's a recent injury for a player that was projected as a second-round pick at worst. Meniscus tears aren't overly difficult to recover from, but they can lead to knee problems down the line. The meniscus is the part of the knee that cushions the load in the body's most fragile joint.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora is "hearing" the Chiefs will likely select Central Michigan LT Eric Fisher with the No. 1 pick if they can't deal disgruntled LT Branden Albert before the draft.

The reasoning is vague, but the Chiefs apparently believe Fisher would be better suited to the "power game" at right tackle than Texas A&M's Luke Joeckel if they kept Albert on the blindside. La Canfora had previously been adamant that Joeckel would be the Chiefs' pick. Unusual for a team picking No. 1 overall, the Chiefs have yet to be overwhelmingly connected to one player. There's still plenty of time for Albert to be traded before Thursday evening.

According to the Miami Herald, the Dolphins have "spent more time" with OT Menelik Watson than any other tackle in the draft.

The Manchester, England native had never played football before August 2011, but is a former basketball player with considerable athletic upside to go along with his 6-foot-5, 310-pound frame. Watson would be a nice fallback option for the Dolphins if they whiff on Oklahoma's Lane Johnson and fail to acquire Branden Albert, but will likely be off the board before their first second-round pick at No. 42. If the 'Fins are dead-set on the former Seminole, they could package their No. 42 and 54 selections to move back into the latter third of the first round.

According to CBS' Jason La Canfora, the Jaguars are "high on" USC QB Matt Barkley.

Barkley isn't a candidate for the No. 2 pick, but a potential trade back into the final third of the first round. NFL.com's Albert Breer reported earlier Tuesday the Rams' No. 22 pick is viewed as a "potential landing place" for teams looking to move up to get a quarterback. Barkley is a second-round talent on tape, but appears likely to come off the board on day one.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Panthers have shown a "lot of interest" in Utah DT Star Lotulelei.

The Panthers are far from settled on the interior defensive line, but it would be a major surprise if Star tumbled all the way to No. 14. La Canfora believes Carolina is likely Lotulelei's "floor," meaning he wouldn't fall any further.
