Update: Eagles sign Mark Sanchez

Recommended Posts

Per Rotoworld.com:

The New York Daily News is echoing an ESPN report that the Eagles are expected to sign free agent Mark Sanchez.
A flurry of Sanchez reports surfaced Monday afternoon, some lightly connecting him to St. Louis and Cleveland, another to the Giants, and several to the Eagles. It's believed -- tentatively at this point -- that Philly will sign Sanchez after he passes a physical. The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane added Monday that the Eagles have "definite interest" in Sanchez, but "have to check on his medical condition." Per McLane, "there are still a few hurdles to clear." Mar 24 - 5:02 PM
A source tells Profootballtalk.com the Eagles are "definitely interested" in free agent Mark Sanchez, but the team "wants to learn more about his injured shoulder" before signing him.
We're considering renaming Rotoworld, SanchizeWorld. Sanchez tore the labrum in his throwing shoulder last preseason, and underwent year-ending surgery on October 8. He didn't play a regular season snap in 2013. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Monday that Sanchez "has been throwing" and "is about 80 percent" recovered from the injury. "He's on good recovery," Mortensen tweeted. Mar 24 - 5:20 PM
In addition to the Eagles, Rams, and Browns, the NY Daily News reports the Titans have "expressed real interest" in free agent Mark Sanchez.
In Tennessee, Sanchez would be the favorite to start over Charlie Whitehurst. Including the Giants -- as reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport -- this would put five teams on Sanchez's radar. Either Sanchez's agent is on absolute fire working media types at the NFL meetings in Orlando, or Sanchez is the hottest topic in the state of Florida. The Daily News' Manish Mehta reports Philly currently has an "edge" to land Sanchez, but it's "not a lock." Mar 24 - 5:26 PM
According to the New York Daily News, the Giants have "expressed a level of interest" in free agent Mark Sanchez, but "it's unlikely" that Sanchez would ultimately stay in New York.
The Daily News considers the Eagles the favorites for Sanchez, with the Browns, Rams, and Titans behind them as "serious" suitors. A change of scenery -- out of the Big Apple -- would certainly seem to be in Sanchez's best interests after his Jets career crashed and burned. We're still betting Sanchez lands in Philadelphia, but the Eagles won't pull the trigger until he passes a physical. Mar 24 - 5:42 PM

Eagles agreed to terms with QB Mark Sanchez, formerly of the Jets.
Although competition-minded coach Chip Kelly is unlikely to formally announce Sanchez as his No. 2 quarterback over Matt Barkley, that's what he'll be. Sanchez's signing is further proof that Kelly's offense doesn't require a fleet-footed quarterback, despite much presumption to the contrary. Sanchez is not a statue in the pocket, but isn't exactly mobile. Sanchez offers loads of experience as a backup, but is the owner of a 71.7 career QB rating, and 55.1 completion percentage.
