Not to be confused with The Superhero Thread. Movies like Godzilla, Jurassic World, Chappie, Edge of Tomorrow, etc. should get discussed here.

I want the Wachowski's to make good movies again. That's probably never gonna happen though.

http://io9.com/tron-3-is-filming-this-fall-1690649953

What has director Joseph Kosinski been up to since wrapping up Oblivion? Well, it sounds like he's been getting Tron 3, the sequel to Tron: Legacy, ready to film. Yes, folks, it looks like we're getting another trip to the neon-lit Grid.

VancityBuzz, a local Vancouver blog, broke the news that filming on Tron 3 is set to begin this fall, and Badass Digest got reliable confirmation that the film really is a go with Kosinski back onboard. Assuming all of VancityBuzz's intel is correct, Garrett Hedlund will be returning as Sam Flynn, son of Kevin Flynn, and filming will launch October 5, 2015.

Well, it will be interesting to see how this turns out. Tron: Legacy had some great visuals (not to mention the music), but was weak on story, but there was a lot we liked about Kosinski's last outing, Oblivion. Let's hope that he continues to grow as a filmmaker as he returns to the Tron franchise.

Needs Jeff Bridges though.

http://www.starwars.com/news/rogue-one-is-the-first-star-wars-stand-alone-film-rian-johnson-to-write-and-direct-star-wars-episode-viii?linkId=12857863

This morning at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, across the street from Lucasfilm, Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger hosted a shareholder meeting where he announced news regarding the first Star Wars stand-alone movie as well as Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Rogue One is the title for the first film in a unique series of big-screen adventures that explores the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga. Rogue One will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Godzilla) and written by Oscar nominee Chris Weitz (Cinderella, About a Boy, Antz). The first actress cast is Felicity Jones, who garnered an Academy Award nomination and critical acclaim for her performance in The Theory of Everything. The idea for the story of Rogue One came from John Knoll, an Academy Award-winning visual effects supervisor and chief creative officer at Industrial Light & Magic. He will executive produce along with Simon Emanuel (The Dark Knight Rises, Fast & Furious 6) and Jason McGatlin (Tintin, War of the Worlds). Kathleen Kennedy and Tony To (Band of Brothers, The Pacific) are on board to produce and John Swartz (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) will co-produce. The film starts shooting this summer in London and is due for release on December 16, 2016.

In addition, Iger confirmed that Rian Johnson will write and direct Star Wars: Episode VIII. The film, which continues the saga after the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is set for release on May 26, 2017 — forty years and a day after the release of Star Wars: A New Hope in 1977. Johnson is widely considered one of cinema’s most gifted young filmmakers, having directed the modern sci-fi classic, Looper, as well as Brick and The Brothers Bloom. He was also behind the camera for three episodes of the critically-acclaimed TV series Breaking Bad, including “Ozymandias,” which series creator Vince Gilligan named as the best installment of the show. Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman, producer of Looper, Don Jon, Brick, and The Brothers Bloom, are on board to produce, and J.J. Abrams will serve as executive producer.

But all this stuff used to be concentrated in the "What was the last movie you watched" thread. :(

I'm going to update the title to sci-fi thread. There is news almost everyday about some sort of Sci-Fi film (example: news dropping about Star Wars and sci-fi films that are in development, which obviously we can't say that we have seen, so it wouldn't belong in the last movie you watched thread.)

There's always been discussion/videos/articles on upcoming shit in the "Last X you Y'd" threads.

I'm just lazy and like having only one big thread to catch up on. :p

How about we wait and see how Episode VII turns out before we make any rash decisions.

I watched it right after seeing Prometheus in theaters. It was alright, I guess. Lots of stuff was taken directly from it for Prometheus, even though they said it wasn't a supposed to be a prequel or whatever.

Mad Max: Fury Road gets an R-rating after originally aiming for PG-13.

Dunno if it means anything, but yeah.

That movie (Fury Road) looks like it could be kinda craptastic but it looks like it'll be a lot of fun to watch, if nothing else.

http://variety.com/2015/film/news/ryan-gosling-to-star-in-blade-runner-sequel-1201474022/

Ryan Gosling is in negotiations to star in the “Blade Runner” sequel alongside Harrison Ford, it was announced on Thursday.

“Prisoners” helmer Denis Villeneuve is directing the sci-fi thriller for Alcon Entertainment with Ridley Scott exec producing. Written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, the “Blade Runner” sequel will take place several decades after the 1982 original, which took place in a dystopian 2019 Los Angeles.

Ford will reprise his role as Rick Deckard in the film; it’s unknown whom Gosling will play.

The actor, who recently made his directorial debut on “Lost River,” will next be seen in “The Nice Guys” with Russell Crowe.

He is in production starring alongside Christian Bale, Brad Pitt and Steve Carell in “The Big Short.”

Villeneuve’s next film, “Sicario,” was announced as an official Cannes Film Festival entry on Thursday. It stars Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro.

Guess Brent Spiner is gonna be the main villain. Goldblum is returning as well.

Both Bill Pullman and Judd Hirsch will be returning for the upcoming Independence Day sequel, director Roland Emmerich has confirmed.

Emmerich made the announcement in a pair of posts on Twitter, each of which accompanied by a photo of the actor in his respective role from the original film. Here's a look at Hirsch, who played Julius Levinson in ID4.

And here's Mr. Pullman, starring as President Thomas J. Whitmore.

Just last week, we learned that both Joey King and Brent Spiner will be joining the Independence Day Forever cast, and back in March it was reported that Jessie Usher will play the son of Will Smith's character, who, unfortunately, will not return for the sequel.
