Another Reason Mark Cuban is Great for Basketball

Because a 68 team single elimination tournament is about the most exciting event you can put together. Compound that with the fact that for probably about 30-40% of the athletes playing each game could be the last real game they ever play, just to raise the stakes a little bit, and it's almost guaranteed to be entertaining. Oh, and just for fun, you get everyone and their mother to fill out a bracket, predicting every single game, that way even people who don't give a shit about the sport or the schools or the players have a rooting interest in every game. The play on the court doesn't have to be very good to make that an incredibly marketable entertainment product.

And then you remember the 30 or so regular season games mean absolutely nothing...

And I'm not saying these guys are semi pro (they are more like, just amateurs, really) and that the games should be NBA level entertaining...

 

I'm saying that just about all these offenses are shitty to the point where its beyond boring. Be it because of coaching adjustments or just lack of skills, the game is boring.

 

Take for example a game like Notre Dame, and Kentucky. Game full of talent on both sides, and they went through like, a 6 minute stretch where there wasn't a single point scored! That's brutal, even by college standards.

 

It makes for some entertaining endings to games during march madness because they are close and stuff. But otherwise, its just mad boring. And its not great defense or anything most of the time... Just inept offense... No amount of energetic crowd can save that. At least imo.
