Cherry opens up on loss to #6 Alabama

"It's certainly tough to lose at home like that. To come in with them as a 9-point favorite and to lose by 27 is pretty tough on our guys and the fans as well. I have no doubt that we deserved that loss with the way we played."

When asked about Myers performance, Cherry said, "I think he did a good job given how short notice that was. He's not used to working with the starters. There were some chemistry issues there that I don't think David would have had. Tyler did well though. You can look at that completion percentage and argue he couldn't get the check down passes, but our gameplan was to spread the field. We knew coming in that Alabama would be tough up front and we couldn't win that way. Tyler has the arm to get it 50 yards down the field, and we decided that's how we'd attack."

On Meredith's potential return: "He should be back next week. We got things straightened out. He's getting his grades to where they need to be. That's all I'll say about David academically."

When asked about his receivers potentially underperforming, Cherry said, "I don't see it that way. When you look at those matchups, those are some of the best corners in college football today. That secondary is littered with first-round or second-round NFL talent. Marvin and Schmidt are two very good receivers, but those are some of the toughest corners and safeties in the game right now."

Cherry finished off the press conference by addressing next week's game.

"UNLV is 3-0. They're a good football team, but I believe we're a better one. We're gonna get back out there and take out the last undefeated team in the West division. See you guys next week. We'll be 3-1."

Colorado State @ UNLV (Preview)

Colorado State QB David Meredith will not play again this week, missing his second consecutive week due to academic reasons. Despite confidence from the coaching staff that he would play, he continues to miss due to issues with grades. He is reportedly progressing well, but will remain suspended until week 6, if his development goes well.

Colorado State opens as a 2-point favorite to win, with expected temperatures in Las Vegas to be in the low 90s with no clouds. It should feel close to 100 outside around kickoff.

This is the season opener for conference games, and will be a key game for both teams. UNLV is set to cruise in the West division, but a loss to Colorado State would set them off on the wrong foot. Colorado State on the other hand would fall to 2-2 with a game against Utah State on deck.

Cherry's prediction: 31-17 Colorado State

Utah State @ Boise State

With both teams 3-0 to start the year, this match-up looks like the key to deciding the best team in the Mountain West. Boise State has looked dominant so far this year, as usual cruising through their early games. Utah State, while looking solid, has not blown out their opposition like Boise State.

Utah State is currently a 1-point favorite but Boise State looks like the more well-rounded team. This should be one of the most important matches in the Mountain West this year.

We would have won if Meredith wasn't a dumbass.

He had like a 1.93 GPA which isn't too bad to fix. I gave him like 5 hours of tutoring which should've popped him up to around 2.3 GPA. Instead he proceeds to get suspended. :Suicide:

We would've probably come up shy anyways but it would've been way less brutal.

Cherry discusses close win over UNLV

"We said we'd go out there and get it done. It may not have been pretty, but I'm proud of what we did. It feels good to start the conference season with a win, and it's over an upstart team as well. UNLV is a very good team, and Gill is going to turn a lot of heads this year. Maybe we'll see them again down the road."

When asked how he felt about the play to get the ball back and stop the potential game-winning drive, Cherry commented, "I'm proud of Garcia and Kenny to make that play. Thomas always gets in on the action there and he knew what to watch for. I'm just glad he hit as hard as he did to force it out. If not we could've gone to OT with our third-string QB. That UNLV offense was getting tough to stop, and I don't think I'd be confident in OT against them."

After a few more questions, the coach dropped a bombshell on the media. Stunned reporters sat in silence after the announcement.

"Tyler Myers is going to miss the rest of the season, or at least until bowl games. He ruptured his spleen, and is undergoing the medical procedure right now to get healthy. We're upset to announce that he's likely gone, given how good of a job he has done. However, we'll look to Campbell and Velez to help carry this team until Meredith gets back. I have faith we'll put up a good fight with Campbell at the helm."

Utah State currently sits as a 10-point favorite despite the game taking place at Colorado State. The odds don't look good for the Rams to go to 4-1.

Utah State @ Colorado State (Preview)

Colorado State opens up as the 10-point underdog in this conference matchup. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 60s, and the sun should be out for a nice day of football. The biggest story for the game is the loss of backup QB Tyler Myers. He is likely out for the season, and the Rams will have to focus heavily on the rushing attack to have the slightest hope against the Aggies. The Rams will likely be facing the best QB they've faced all year, and will have a tough time limiting the passing offense of Utah State.

Cherry's prediction: 55-6 Utah State.

Cherry gives brief statement

"These kinds of games are the hardest. Our defense fought hard out there, and I'm very proud of them. They pulled their share. We have to have offense pull their fair share as well. I'll talk with the guys and try to figure out how we can move forward from this. I'm proud of the determination and grit we had to stay in it. Thanks."

Colorado State @ Wyoming (Preview)

With David Meredith healthy, the Colorado State Rams come into this game as the 2-point favorite, though some media outlets are saying they'll likely win by two or more possessions. The defense has been on another level for the Rams, holding back a high-powered offense in Utah State, and keeping things close until the very end. The projected temperature in Laramie is in the mid 50s with some clouds.

Cherry's prediction: Colorado State 45-24

I make every call on every play. I check emails from athletic director and staff to keep updated on academic suspensions, injuries, recruits, film reports, and anything of the sort. I help pick who we play each year in our non-conference games. I also redshirt players and order the depth chart. I set schemes, playbooks, and offensive/defensive philosophies. I'm basically doing everything the game allows.

Cherry discusses Meredith's return, 28-12 win

"It's good to have him back. He's a key part of this offense and we just didn't feel right on offense without him. He keeps the ball moving down the field. He sets our receivers up to make big plays. I'm proud of the job he did in the classroom to make it back in time for this game. We were starting to get worried about our upcoming schedule without him back. Thankfully we've put those worries to rest and he's achieving at another level."

One reporter asked, "Do you think that Meredith not being suspended could've led to an undefeated record at this point in the year?"

"I think it's definitely something that could be argued. He's 3-0 as a starter. I think we'd have put up a better fight against Alabama, but would we be unscathed? I don't know. Tyler and Robert have done a great job filling his shoes."

(Oh shit. Thought my save died for a minute. Nearly died. :sigh:)

Hawaii @ Colorado State (Preview)

With Colorado State now receiving votes for a place on the top 25, they're looking to beat down on the already badly beaten Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. The Warriors are 0-6 this season, and have looked pitiful in conference competition. The Rams are currently an 8-point favorite to win this game that has expected weather in the mid 70s on a sunny afternoon. Most analysts are picking the Rams to win by a huge margin. They have averaged 378 yards on offense per week in comparison to the Warriors who have averaged 221. They've also allowed an average of 351 yards in comparison to the Warriors 468.

Cherry's prediction: 45-19 Colorado State

Around 20,400 people show up to Hughes Stadium to watch the Rams and Warriors fight. It's a nice 74 degrees outside with the sun shining down.

Colorado State starts at their own 16. They have to punt after about 10 yards. Hawaii punts right back. The Rams punt back again. Right back again.

Colorado State gets to midfield and decides to go for it on 4th and 1. They're stuffed on a QB keeper. The Warriors throw a quick pass to the running back but Garcia pops the ball out. Leslie Moss scoops it up and gets 7 yards on the fumble return. The Rams start at midfield. They make it down to the 11 but get stopped. They kick a field goal. Martin's 29-yard field goal is good. 3-0 Colorado State.

Hawaii easily pushes down the field on poor coverage by defensive backs. Touchdown Warriors. 7-3 Hawaii.

Colorado State pushes down the field and attempts a 35-yard field goal. It's good. 7-6 Hawaii.

After halting the Hawaii offense the Rams stretch the field and Meredith hits Garcia for a 40-yard TD. 13-7 Colorado State.

The teams exchange punts. Hawaii gets down to the 11 before they're stopped. They kicked a FG. 13-10 Colorado State. A piling on penalty gives the Rams the ball at the 40 with 22 seconds left in the half. A great play sets them up at the 1 with 9 seconds left. They're stuffed and time expires. (I know. Fucking retarded run-off.)

Halftime Score

Hawaii 10

Colorado State 13

Second Half

Hawaii punts after quick three and out. Thanks to a great catch on a third down by Marvin Barker, the Rams move deep into Hawaii territory.

They try a draw at the 1 but the Warriors send everyone and send them back four yards. They get back to the 2 and try a field goal. Martin's 20-yard field goal is in. 16-10 Colorado State.

Hawaii is hit with another three and out. Rams ball at their own 22. They get to the Hawaii 42 but are forced to punt. Another three and out gets the ball back to the Rams.

The Rams are at the Hawaii 32 on 4th & 8. It's a fake punt. It fails. Hawaii starts at their own 32. The third quarter ends 16-10 Colorado State.

Hawaii tries to pass short. It hits the DT in the hands and he pulls it down. Interception for Colorado State DT Paul Marsh. Colorado State at the Hawaii 32. Peter Velez gets hit hard and fumbles, but Meredith falls on it. A holding call moves the chains to the 23. Meredith's screen pass is picked off. Hawaii starts at their own 24.

Two blown coverages get them to the Rams 27. Another one allows a TD. 17-16 Hawaii. (I played dime pass defense the entire fucking drive. Bullshit choke.)

The Rams start at their own 33 but can't move the chains. They're forced to punt. Hawaii gets the ball at their own 27. The Rams stop them but an offsides penalty gives the Warriors a first down.

Another blown coverage gives up 42 yards down the field. The Warriors are in the redzone. After a sack, Dustin Boyd reads an inside route and jumps it for the interception. Rams ball at the 9 with 5:21 left. They're pushed back to their own 5 after a penalty.

A holding call gets the first down. The Rams can't give Meredith protection. They have to punt with 3:30 left.

The Rams force a three and out. They get the ball with 1:51 left at their own 20 with 2 timeouts. This drive decides the game.

They get 10 on a screen but a holding call brings it back.

Another holding call puts them at 1st and 25 on their own 5.

Barker drops a wide-open pass.

A blown assignment gives Barker a clear path to the endzone. He's wide-open with green grass. It hits him in the hands. He drops it. 4th & 12.

Meredith overthrows. Ball game.

Hawaii wins 17-16.

Player of the Game

Colorado State FS Thomas Garcia. 6 tackles. 2 passes defended.

Note: I've never been more fucking furious at this game than I am right now. I played a great game from a coaching aspect but got completely boned by that bullshit drive in the 4th. How the fuck do I play two deep with 4 corners and I still get burnt for a 40, 30, and 20 yard gain all within 5 plays. It's just horse shit. Fuck Hawaii. I hope they die in a plane crash on the way home.

Rams lose star LT and RT

The Colorado State Rams have now lost 1st-team Mountain West left tackle Elmer Johnson to a torn PCL. He will miss multiple months. They've also lost starting RT Randy Glover due to a torn hamstring. Coach Cherry declined to comment on the recent loss to Hawaii, but addressed the loss of two key linemen.

"We'll miss them. They did a damn good job watching our quarterback."

Colorado State @ San Jose State (Preview)

With the Rams and Spartans both looking to be firmly out of the conference race, this will be a battle for bowl games. Colorado State (4-3, 2-2 MW) needs a quick turnaround from the previous loss to have any shot at a late December bowl game. Now missing both starting tackles, star quarterback David Meredith will be constantly under pressure from opposing defensive lines. San Jose State (1-6, 0-4 MW) is fighting for a shot at a bowl game, and will likely drop out of consideration with a loss at home this week. The Rams are heavily favored to win, holding a 15-point spread right now. It's expected to be sunny out and in the 60s, though clouds could start to come in as the day goes on.
