Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted August 20, 2018 In need of a trusty backup to Russell Wilson, the Seahawks recently offered a second-round draft pick for Brissett, Ben Volin of the Boston Globe reported. The Colts rejected the overture, in keeping with owner Jim Irsay's early August declaration that his organization would not part with "the best backup quarterback in football," even if the offer was as steep as a first-round pick. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000949509/article/report-hawks-offered-2ndrounder-for-colts-brissett Am I crazy or is the only reason the Colts would decline this is because they don't fully trust Luck's injury situation / health? Also, what is the Hawks' angle ? Is it simply they want to upgrade the backup QB position?
RazorStar 4,025 Posted August 20, 2018 People are getting on the Eagles copycat train, so when they see them highly invest in a backup QB, they think to do the exact same thing without understanding why that worked in the first place. As for why the Colts refused it... they like Brissett and he's at the high end of what you'd expect from a backup so it's worthwhile to keep someone like that on the roster.
Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted August 20, 2018 It seems like the Eagles strategy of having your best QB not start (and then go on to win a SB) is going to be hard to replicate.
RazorStar 4,025 Posted August 20, 2018 And yet there is more than enough blowhards in the NFL to think it's a possibility.
