Spring 1903: Bloodlust

A new year breaks on the horizon, and the Austrian homefront has been ravaged by war, and conflict. They've given up on their own government so much, that they even allow the retreating Italian army into Budapest without a struggle. Their army in Greece surrendered and nothing seemed to be going in their favour. Still, the great leader Bangy would not give up that easily.

AustriaSpring1903.jpg

Once again, Bangy responds with a coordinated attack at one of his home centers, trying to taking back Budapest and his lost pride. Even with only two units, the Austrian Archduke is fighting hard for his country and his people.

RussiaSpring1903.jpg

The Great Tsar of Russia sees the honor in the small countries struggle and offers him a helping hand, adding his army in Rumania into Austria’s attack on Budapest. Surely three armies would be enough to topple the Italian hold on the city. He creates an extra wave of defense in Sevastopol, still holding onto the northern coast of the black sea. Vin Seems determined to keep Turkey stalemated there. He holds his defensive line in Sweden and Warsaw, not wanting to anger the western triangle, and has his army in St. Petersburg migrate south to Livonia. Once again, another defensive move from the Bear.

TurkeySpring1903.jpg

The Young Sultan in Turkey however, sticks to his guns, aggressive attacks towards Russia, attempting to break his wall. He cuts off Austria's support with his Bulgarian army, forcing Russia to hold off the invaders in Rumania. With support from the Black Sea, his armenia army charges at Sevastopol, but he is held off by Vin's shrewd decision to stonewall in the Black Sea's northern coast. Lastly, and perhaps most surprisingly, he allows, nay supports an Italian move into Greece, handing him the south end of the Balkans. Will the President take up Turkey's kind offer? How will we deal with the Austrian attack? Let's find out.

ItalySpring1903.jpg

The President gladly takes Turkey's kindness, letting his fleet in the Ionian finally take the country of Greece. His new Fleet in Naples begins an expedition west, heading into the Tyrrhenian Sea. Making absolute sure Austria would be destroyed this year, his armies move to cover Austria's back door, from Venice into Tyrolia. Lastly, he coordinates an assault on Vienna, crushing the Austrian army with combined might from both Tripoli and Budapest. Suddenly, Zack has turned a terrible 3 pronged attack into a mere joke, with the help of the Turkish Sultan.

EnglandSpring1903.jpg

Moving our eyes to the other major conflict on the western side of Europe, we see the King of the Britons attempting yet another convoy, this time into the unoccupied Brest. He moves his fleet from London into the North Sea, and holds his supply center in Norway. Will the other Western powers allow England to move freely?

GermanySpring1903.jpg

Well his Best Buddy Barracuda would certainly be glad to help the King out. His army in Picardy supports the convoy into Brest, and France has no strength to prevent the move. He also stonewalls France from progressing West, by holding in both Munich and Berlin. His army in Kiev marches south towards Ruhr, and his force in Burgundy strikes out at the French Riveria. The Kaiser had made one thing clear with these moves, France will go down, and there is nothing anyone can do to stop him.

FranceSpring1903.jpg

But no good Frenchman gives up that easily! Wait... um. No good American playing a frenchman gives up that easily. The Prime Minister holds in Paris and Marseilles and moves his fleet up from Gascony to hold the line against the invading Germans. In a seemingly nothing move, he sends his army down in Silesia to Bohemia, sealing off the Austrian escape route. Was this an attempt to remove a player from the field, or did he just want to get close to the action?

All in all the orders look like:

Spring1903Orders.jpg

And Resolved you get

Fall1903.jpg

Bangy I automatically retreated your army in Vienna to Galicia since it was the only place it could go. If you want me to disband the unit instead, just let me know ASAP. Otherwise, the rest of you have orders due.

Fall 1903: U MAD? (Mutually Assured Destruction)

Fall, the months of death, destruction and sleep. Those who stay active survive the harsh winters, and those who cower will barely stand the onslaught of the coming years. Only the strong survive, and only the diplomatic will truly survive the hell known as Europe in the 20th Centrury. Let's begin our report in the Frozen Tundra of Russia.

RussiaFall1903.jpg

Hanging steady, Vin's frontlines have not moved in the year, the Tsar settling in with 6 supply centers while more aggressive neighbours are prone to take the land around him. The only moves of note were his choosing to bloster his defense in Rumania, and migrate his armies towards the south, not even trying to get involved in the western clusterfuck. A patient turtle... will eventually get tipped over.

TurkeyFall1903.jpg

And Sean might just might be the guy to do it. The Sultan sent his armies north, massing a focused offensive against Russia. His fleet in the Black Sea supports an attack on Rumania from Bulgaria, and his army in Armenia cuts off the Sevastopol support, ending Vin's tenous hold on the Balkans. Russia and Turkey might just be the new battle on the European landscape, replacing the dying Austria-Italy affair. Speaking of that, let's see how that battle is shaking up.

ItalyAustriaFall1903.jpg

Bangy did the predictable move, sending his forces in a joint attack towards his capital of Vienna, however, the crafty Italian President had another way to protect from this assault. With the help of France he marches into Vienna, protecting the Capital from a joint attack, as well as launching his own joint attack on the occupied Budapest, knocking out Bangy's last armies and forcing him to withdraw. However, his escapes routes are limited. In less exciting news, Zack holds onto Greece, and finally takes the Tunisian Toast, gaining 3 supply centers this year. Let's see what else France did, aside from helping Italy out.

FranceFall1903.jpg

The Prime Minister's home looks to be in terrible disarray, as England finally landed on the coast of Brest. Launching a joint attack from Paris back into Brest, he attempted to keep England off his great land. He holds in Marseilles as well, making absolutely sure that the western Vanguard does not get past his last lines of defense.

GermanyFall1903.jpg

The Kaiser says to the Prime Minister, FUCK YOU MATTHEW, I'VE GOT TANKS! From Picardy and Burgundy, the kaiser's armies steamroll into Paris. Another army in Ruhr moves to replace the one in Burgundy, and he support holds in Munich, almost expecting France and Italy to tag team him instead of Austria. His strong attack in Paris depends on England holding on in Brest. How will the King fare?

EnglandFall1903.jpg

Quite well actually. The King keeps a fleet in Norway because he admires their social welfare programs, but more importantly, with help from the fleet in the Channel, his army holds the fort in Brest, both repelling the French attack, and ensuring that Prime Minister Matthew's army was destroyed by Germany. Both Brest and Paris were lost to the prime minister this round. Lastly, Trident moves into the Helgoland Bight, possibly to secure Germany's northern flank?

All in all the Orders look like this:

Fall1903Orders.jpg

And Resolved we have

Fall1903Retreats.jpg

Austria you can retreat to Serbia or Disband.

Russia, you can retreat to Serbia or Disband.

If you both Retreat into Serbia, your armies will destroy each other. Choose your moves carefully gentlemen. The next builds will be announced after the retreat phase.

Diplomacy Power Rankings the Third:

1. Italy 8 SC's

You played this year excellently, Italy. Grabbing Greece without any struggle gives you protection in the south against attacks from either southern neighbour. Reading both of Austria's moves perfectly gave you all of his supply centers, with his survival only realized through Russia's 'kindness'. Lastly, you finally took Tunisia, and now was a good time to do it, since no one got into the Ionian. Now it's time to plan against your strongest opponents on the field.

2. Germany 7 SC's

You and England are completely tearing France a new one. The Number 1 in this ranking can't hit you until Fall next year, and France can't do much in ways of stopping you. Just make sure to watch your back, both England and Russia can hit your back next turn if they wanted to.

3. England 5 SC's

Why am I giving England the edge over the other 5 SC countries? Location mostly. England has strong defensive fortification, and with Russia staying still against the West, England has naval superiority over the map, he has landed a supply center in the mainland, and he's given a gentle threat to his best buddy in Germany. His home SC's have a natural defense against enemies, and he's only got Russia and Germany as threats to his land at the moment.

4. Turkey 5 SC's

With an excellent pincer attack against Russia last turn, you were able to steal Rumania, and take control of the entire area around the black sea. You can start tearing into Russia very shortly, and you have good position to claim Serbia once Austria goes down. If they go down. They probably will. Just keep your relations balanced with Italy and Russia and you can continue a slow expansion into power.

5. Russia 5 SC's

Vin. Vin vin vin vin... C'mon. Turkey and Italy are gonna need to expand, and since you just held there, you're looking like tasty meat to them. You've got some supply centers staring you in the face, and good defensive position in the South, but you're gonna have to make a move, and it's probably gonna have to be soon, or you'll be washed over by the great powers.

6. France 2 SC's

Germany and England are wiping you clean out, luckily, you can survive for a few more turns thanks to your somewhat good position. You need a lot of help to get out of this pickle, but it's not over for you yet.

7. Austria 1 SC?

Take Serbia and hold on for dear life. You want to get lost in the power struggle and hope you can steal your home supply center back in the fall. You're probably fucked, but you can at least survive for a few turns, unless someone really wants you dead. Better pray to the Roman God.

... Fuck it Bangy, you're getting Serbia whether you like it or not. If you want to just give up and lose you can do it in your next turns.

Spring 1904: He Who Fights Monsters

The disparity of war is too realistic for those of close to Switzerland. We've watched Austrian refugees and French refugees flee from homes to find sanction in our country. Sadly, we could only allow the best and the brightest to pass through our borders, as we must still remain impartial as we know not which powers will remain after this struggle. Let's begin our report in England, where the king of the britons has worked hand in hand with the Kaiser to create a powerful alliance.

EnglandSpring1904.jpg

He still seems to be working well with the Kaiser, offering support from Brest into Gascony. He cedes the English Channel in order to box France into the last stronghold of Spain and Portugal. He keeps his forces in the east vigilant in Norway and Helgoland Bight. Lastly, the king's new fleet moves into the North Sea. Is the Germaland alliance planning an attack on the East soon?

GermanySpring1904.jpg

Germany fears losing Denmark so he moves his new fleet of ships there to hold off any potential invaders that may come. He holds on his eastern flank, waiting for invaders to come to him instead of inciting the attack himself. His fleet in Belgium moves into the vacated channel and he spends all of his resources making sure he gets Gascony under his belt. He gets even more support from Burgundy to charge his Parisian army into the area. France has no way of defending against such a powerful attack, and with both countries closing in on him, his moves are limited.

FranceSpring1904.jpg

Matthias is left with precious few options, so he cedes Gascony to the invading Germans, retreating to the spanish coast, hoping he could hold off the armies of Germany there. He holds in Marseilles, knowing it's only a matter of time before he must defend to the death his last home centre. Will anyone come to save France and it's Prime Minister from destruction?

ItalyAustriaSpring1904.jpg

With some serious muscle behind him, Zack finally moves toward the western triangle, moving three armies into Piedmont, Tyrolia and Bohemia. He moves two of his fleets into the Tyrhennian and Western Mediterranean Seas, nearly surrounding the western conflict with his forces. His army in Naples marches up into Rome, preparing for the coming battle in the West. Lastly, he holds in Greece, and attacks Austria one more time in Serbia, just for good measure. Arch-Duke Bangy attempts to continue his retreat by moving into Bulgaria, completely ignoring his former home centers.

RussiaSpring1904.jpg

However, Italy doesn't seem to be Germany's only new enemy. To the far north, Russia starts mobilizing it's armies toward the west for the first time this game. From Warsaw into Silesia, Moscow to Livonia and The Ukraine into Warsaw, the Tsar formerly known as Vin makes an aggressive move, at least for him. He doesn't take a shot at Germany yet, holding in Sweden, but he's amassing his forces on the battle line. Oh and he holds in Sevastopol, who saw that coming?

TurkeySpring1904.jpg

Even Turkey gets into the western invasion somewhat. Though Italy and Russia are the countries with the easy access against the Western front, Turkey does a lot for them by not making any opening hostile moves. Leaving both Italy and Russia alone, he marches into Galicia from Rumania, and immediately replaces that army with a convoyed one all the way from Ankara across the Black Sea. He bounces the Arch-duke's retreat into Bulgaria with his fleet from Constantinople, and brings another army into Ankara from Armenia, reducing the threat to Vin's precious Sevastopol. At this point, it seems like everyone has turned against the Kaiser in Germany, and the King of England by proxy.

All in all the orders look like:

Spring1904Orders.jpg

And with these moves resolved, we now have:

Fall1904.jpg

Next orders are due by May 14th at 12:30 PM Eastern
