Things just got very interesting in the American League West.

According to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com, the Angels have acquired right-hander Zack Greinke from the Brewers.

The Brewers are getting prospect shortstop Jean Segura and two Double-A pitchers in return. Rosenthal writes that the deal is done, but the “finishing touches” are still being applied.

That's the Angels' #2, #3 and #9 prospects according to Baseball America. Nice haul for the Brew Crew.

According to Jon Paul Morosi, the Pirates are still interested in trading for a hitter. Morosi says they are still in on Chase Headley and Shane Victorino as well.

Pirates traded reliever Brad Lincoln for Travis Snider of the Blue Jays. This is a pretty good trade for us, IMO. We trade a reliever who, while good, can be easily replaced with pieces already in our system, for a guy with enormous upside and under team control for a long time. The thing people have to realize is that the Pirates aren't 1 player away from making a huge playoff push. Not this year. Snider potentially improves us this year and beyond. Relief pitchers are good and all, but when you have a history of finding good relievers like Huntington has, you're trading from a strength to address a weakness. That is exactly the kind of trade we need to make.

Is Snider that guy though? He seems to be all hype right now... Granted, he is still very young at 24... Not sure I would expect much from him now or in a year or two.

This year in Triple-A, Snider has shown a .263 ISO and a 17.1% strikeout rate in 246 PAs, and that’s the best combination of the two that he’s ever shown. It’s added up to a .271/.344/.480 major league equivalent line (.355 wOBA) according to Brian Cartwright and his OLIVER system. Some scouts have praised his work and think he’s turned the corner. The player himself credits being fully healthy after a wrist injury, and also talks of making mechanical adjustments to his swing.

I also know that well-read Blue Jays fans are quite upset about trading him for just 1 relief pitcher. I would be, too. For the upside we couldn't pass up this trade by any means.

He's going to join the Pirates right away, isn't he? PNC is pretty pitcher friendly, while Snider has been working in a hitter friendly environment thus far. The upside is definitely there... Just not sure how soon it's going to be seen. I guess we will know quickly, though.

PNC Park has a short porch in RF, so a left-handed hitter could find some advantages there.

Sources: Rangers send 3B Christian Villanueva and RHP Kyle Hendricks to Cubs for Dempster.

Pirates traded Casey McGehee to the Yankees for Chad Qualls. Not very much significance there. Qualls sucks but McGehee was gonna be released.
