Baseball America's Top 50 Prospects

Recommended Posts

Baseball America's Midseason Top 50 Prospects list is one of our tougher rankings because it's a moving target. We considered adding 2012 draftees but didn't because the signing deadline still comes after the July 1 midpoint of the season. Prospects have to have (a) not used up their rookie eligibility and (b) be in the minor leagues on our July 1 cutoff date. That date kept the likes of Yasmani Grandal, Martin Perez and Drew Pomeranz off the list.

1. Dylan Bundy, rhp, Orioles

2. Jurickson Profar, ss, Rangers

3. Wil Myers, of, Royals

4. Taijuan Walker, rhp, Mariners

5. Danny Hultzen, lhp, Mariners

6. Gerrit Cole, rhp, Pirates

7. Tyler Skaggs, lhp, Diamondbacks

8. Jose Fernandez, rhp, Marlins

9. Manny Machado, ss, Orioles

10. Zack Wheeler, rhp, Mets

Pirates have 2 top 15 and 4 top 50 overall. Good shit.

Also, the Phillies really need to restock their farm at the deadline. Looking pretty shitty now that they're gonna be rebuilding.

I've read a couple of articles about that pitcher,Gerrit Cole and they are all predicting him a very bright future..

Also, three Yankees in Top 50 is pretty much what I expected..

Yea, Cole is nasty. He can sit at 98+ MPH with his 4-seamer for entire innings at a time, and he has a total package of other pitches. Power changeup at 87-88, hard slider 90-92, and a curveball is his 4th option but even it has the ability to be at least an average pitch.

That's pretty impressive for a AA pitcher..

Yep, his raw stuff is right up there with Matt Moore and Stephen Strasburg, he's just not as polished as Strasburg was at this age. His upside is tremendous, though. He won't be in AA long.
