Medical Staff Says Jahvid Best Will Not Play in 2012

Detroit Lions tailback Jahvid Best will remain sidelined a year after suffering a concussion and will not re-join the team this week, the team confirmed Monday evening. Best was eligible to be activated from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list Monday, but medical officials apparently have not yet cleared him for contact.

Lions general manager Martin Mayhew issued this statement:

 

"After today's consultation with medical experts, including representatives from our medical and training staffs, it has been determined that Jahvid will not be permitted to return to play at this time.

 

"Throughout this entire process we always have placed the highest priority on what is best for Jahvid from a health and safety standpoint. While today's decision is disappointing from a football perspective, we fully and entirely respect and support this recommendation.

 

"Jahvid will continue to work with our medial and training staffs with the hope that he ultimately will be cleared to return to the playing field."

Wow. When you are required to sit the year after sustaining a concussion, it might be time to hang em up and find something else to do with your life.

Ya, I would highly doubt he comes back to play ever again. If it wasn't obvious before, it is not.. This is a very serious matter. Retirement is the best option.
