Update: 49ers CB Culliver tears ACL, done for season

Recommended Posts

Per Rotoworld.com:

49ers CB Chris Culliver was carted off the practice field Thursday with a potentially serious left knee injury.

Culliver was covering a punt when he fell to the ground and clutched his left knee. He immediately called a trainer over, and he was carted to the trainer's room as tears flowed down his face. We're not going to speculate until further details emerge, but it doesn't sound good. Culliver is the Niners' No. 3 corner. Aug 1 - 3:54 PM

Per Rotoworld.com:

49ers CB Chris Culliver tore his left ACL in Thursday's training camp practice and is done for the season.

Culliver was a gunner on the punt team, and he got mixed up with seventh-round CB Marcus Cooper and tore his ACL. The soon-to-be 25-year-old was overmatched in the Super Bowl last year, but he was given a positive grade in Pro Football Focus' end-of-the-year rankings. Culliver was penciled in as the Niners' No. 3 corner, but Nnamdi Asomugha and Tramaine Brock will compete for the spot. Aug 1 - 10:07 PM

Tramaine Brock will get the first opportunity to take over as the 49ers' No. 3 corner following Chris Culliver's torn ACL.

Brock, entering his fourth season out of Belhaven College, came into camp on the roster bubble, and he played just 30 defensive snaps last season. Re-signed to a one-year, $1.323 million deal, Brock's salary is lofty for a guy that doesn't play many meaningful snaps. Nnamdi Asomugha is also in the conversation as the No. 3 corner, but he's been a "mixed bag" early in camp.

Hopefully Brock can do something. Otherwise we are fucked again.

49ers CB Chris Culliver (torn left ACL) has resumed sprinting, and expects to participate in the team's offseason program.

"I'll be there every day," Culliver said of OTAs. "Ya'll come, you're going to see me. I'm there every day." Slated to be the 49ers' No. 3 cornerback, Culliver tore up his knee in the early days of camp. Barring a setback, he should be ready to go when San Francisco reports this July. Culliver will be in the mix for one of the 49ers' top three or four spots. Although Culliver's poor performance in Super Bowl XLVII sticks in the craw, he had a solid 2012.
