Lions Acquire Greg Robinson

Recommended Posts

The Los Angeles Rams finally gave up on former No. 2 overall pick Greg Robinson.

The Rams traded the offensive tackle to the Detroit Lions for a 2018 sixth-round pick, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.

Not that he is worth anything more, but I find this kind of hilarious.

Yeah when the article calls him a potential stopgap at LT, I was just like -- more like a temporary door that is stuck open.

He has upside at guard but he wasn't worth paying. Please dear god don't let him play tackle though.

What's up with first round tackle prospects busting like crazy?

People buying on extreme athleticism over technique like it can be learned. Every once in a while you land with a freak of nature at LT (Tyron Smith) but majority of the time you get Greg Robinson.

Butta swears to me that it's because of the new techniques they're teaching these guys in college as blockers. A lot of tackles don't kick-slide anymore in their systems, instead just shuffling to contact.

Tackles either bust spectacularly or do really well, the in between is super hard to find.

Vast majority of the problem relates to the different offenses being ran in the college and high school game compared to the pro game.

High schools and colleges are teaching offensive linemen to play the game one way, and it becomes a habit. When they get to the pro game they are being asked to do things that takes lots of repetition and work to master.

Robinson at Auburn destroyed defensive linemen, but he wasn't asked to hold blocks very long, wasn't asked to pass block for longer then like, a second or less. Hell, even sit in, and getting out of a 3 point stance, which takes a long time to get down.

QBs aren't the only ones becoming harder to evaluate with the spread offense boom in college football.
