BLUE 1,026 Posted May 20, 2011 Per Rotoworld.com: The Cowboys' official website considers WR Roy Williams unlikely to be released this year. All of the guaranteed money from Williams' six-year contract has been paid out. He'd be a prime candidate to be released at $5.1 million in base salary if the labor rules default to 2010 status. It's a different story if a salary cap is re-established this year, though. Owner Jerry Jones was willing to take a cap hit when he released Terrell Owens back in 2009, but he'd be responsible for a monstrous $12.9 million against the cap by axing Williams. seanbrock 1,684 Posted May 20, 2011 Damn, they must be hurting for depth to keep that contract for as poorly as Roy has played.
StompTheSkins 2 Posted May 24, 2011 Damn, they must be hurting for depth to keep that contract for as poorly as Roy has played. He really pissed me off with his d*mn fumble toward the end of the game against the Saints last season.
BLUE 1,026 Posted June 20, 2011 Per Rotoworld.com: ESPN Dallas' Tim MacMahon thinks the length of the lockout has all but eliminated the chance that the Cowboys will release WR Roy Williams.MacMahon reasons Dallas will want to keep Williams aboard since Dez Bryant has had what essentially amounts to a lost offseason. It's an overblown concern. Bryant certainly doesn't need a full offseason to play circles around Williams. If 2011 ends up uncapped like 2010, the Cowboys will think long and hard about releasing Williams. Jun 20, 10:46 AM Source: ESPN Dallas
Guest Durant4MVP Posted June 21, 2011 While I'm all for releasing him, Dallas is on the hook for way too much money to cut him. They might as well try to get at least a little production out of him for their money.
Bangy 19 Posted June 21, 2011 Well that is the problem for the Cowboys After Miles Austin and Dez Bryant they have nobody else depth wise but Roy Williams to cover the big two there, so they may as well keep him for how bad he played last year. If he sucks it up again then cut him.
WindyCitySports 407 Posted June 21, 2011 Yeah, when you look at the factors of money and their depth they pretty much have to keep him. Even Austin and Bryant had down years last year, though.

Miles Austin had a down year? As far as drops go, yeah. Otherwise, he was pretty damn good. And for Dez, considering the amount of games he played in, he was pretty damn solid. Our depth isn't that bad. Sam Hurd and Kevin Ogletree are capable when given snaps. They all bitch about how these two haven't "proven" themselves. You can't prove yourself if you don't get a chance in the first place.
Mathias 394 Posted June 21, 2011 Yeah, when you look at the factors of money and their depth they pretty much have to keep him. Even Austin and Bryant had down years last year, though. I wouldn't call Dez having a down year last year, considering he was a rookie and had 45 catches, while dominating special teams.

BLUE 1,026 Posted July 3, 2011 Per Rotoworld.com: According to the National Football Post, "it’s looking more and more" like the Cowboys will release Roy Williams. In addition to his oversized contract, the Post's Dan Pompei believes Dallas is leaning toward cutting Williams loose because of a desire to "clear the way for Dez Bryant to play more." Williams hardly seemed to be blocking Bryant in 2010, but his departure would undoubtedly provide Bryant with more opportunities. BLUE 1,026 Posted July 7, 2011 Per Rotoworld.com: According to ESPN Dallas' Calvin Watkins, the Cowboys will not release Roy Williams due to salary cap concerns. To the contrary, the Cowboys would take a $12.9 million cap hit this year by cutting ties with Williams. That cap hit is Williams' only hope of keeping a roster spot with a $5.1 million base salary. At this point, it looks like the Cowboys No. 3 receiver will have plenty of money to continue his ill-advised practice of mailing out engagement rings.
