TGP's 2011 Top 100 Players..how does it hold up today?

Recommended Posts

Prior to the 2011 season, Razor compiled a top 100 list that was pretty well received by the majority of TGP..but I'm curious as to how you think it's help up to today.

As you all know the players (roughly 400 of them) made their own list of top 100 players, I believe they were asked to submit their top 20 players and then have that reflect the list. Naturally that leads to a few problems, the criteria for rating players changes for each guy polled. Do you put up their body of work, or just their last season. Anyway you put it, I don’t like the list and I thought I could make a much better one.

So I’ll do my best to explain the criteria of this list. First of all, I put in mind what a player has done over a 3 year window or so, if they have a truly impressive season, they can subvert a one year wonder policy, but it didn’t happen too often. Consistency is rewarded and is much more valuable than peaks and valleys in play. Lastly, a player with a great body of work who starts to show decline will be ranked lower than his peak. It’s only fair, and it gives a better idea of which player will be better right now and for the near future.

There are 9 QB’s*, 4 HB’s, 6 WR’s, 5 TE’s, 8 OT’s, 6 OG’s, 5 C’s, 9 DE’s, 10 DT’s, 13 OLB’s, 10 ILB’s, 7 CB’s, and 8 S’s who made my list. I’m a lot harder on skill positions because it’s well established that HB’s and WR’s are mostly products of the team around them and they need to be truly impressive to make this list.

I’d like to give a special thanks to JD for being such a great editor, and all of the people who volunteered their time to do write-ups for this list. Here is the complete list for everyone.

The one pick I would have fought against had I been around is Nnamdi at #2. I've never been as high on him as most. I think being a Charger fan, I got to see us successfully challenge him a lot more than other teams. Rumors of his dominance were greatly exaggerated, seeing as how he played RCB in a bad secondary where teams could easily go after one of his teammates and have success. Don't get me wrong, he was a good player. But never that good.

Yeah and then he totally chumped it up the next year with the eagles. :(

Rivers at 23 above Manning and Brees is borderline depressing for a Chargers fan like me

I'm kinda surprised there are only four RBs on the list compared to over three times that many OLBs, and Peterson is too low, even for two seasons ago

Adrian Peterson was coming off his worst year to date that year, so I was worried he was declining. Also he wasn't much of a factor as anything other than a runner, which is why he was so low. In any case, last season has changed that opinion of him. OLBs are mixed between 3-4 and 4-3 guys, so there are quite a bit more players to choose from. A lot of linebackers were crowding the bottom of the list though.

Also I think it's mentioned right there in the opening post that HB's and WR's had to do a lot to be on the list. Any average joe can run for 1000 or catch for 1000 thanks to the schemes they run and how easy it is for offenses to move the ball with the current rules in place.
