Greatest Book of the Past 25 Years: Nominations

Recommended Posts

Post your nominations and I'll set up something similar to what Vin has done with the music threads.

My nominations:

In the Lake of the Woods by Tim O'Brien

The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien

Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson

Snow by Orhan Pamuk

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
Dark Places by Gillian Flynn

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling (nominated over the other books because it is the most literary of all of Rowling's HP novels, and the consistent political commentary is absolutely wonderful).

This is just off the top of my head. Post your nominations!

In the lake of the woods is awesome. Enjoyed the things they carried as well.

I wasn't positive that The Things They Carried fit into that 25 year span, but it does, and quite easily, too (1990). I hereby add it to my nominations list.

It's times like these that the fact that 98% of the books I read are fantasy novels becomes a problem...

We all read different things. I wouldn't worry about it. Just nominate your favorite books.

Second The Lovely Bones. That was amazing and yet kinda creepy at the same time.

The Giver and Enders shadow.

That's cool you said the Giver. One of the first books I ever read back in the day and still one of the best.

I haven't really read a lot of recent books. More of a slaugherhouse five, the sound and the fury reader.

I haven't read nearly enough books from the last 25 years. The only ones I'd qualify for this list based on my limited range are Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

You mean the ultra awkward ghost statutory rape scene? So fucking creepy.

I'll add trainspotting and American Gods

I'm about to read American Gods. I've heard good things.

The voting system in this is going to be quite difficult because we're not able to just read a book in a night's time. I'll probably let the nominations extend for quite some time, until most of the multiple nominees are separated by a few digits.

Well... I guess I'll nom a few, though again I've mostly stuck to the fantasy genre.

A Game of Thrones,

A Clash of Kings,

A Storm of Swords,

G.R.R.M

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Because Snape), J.K. Rowling

The Shadow Rising, Robert Jordan

Deadhouse Gates, Steven Erikson

Homeland, R.A. Salvatore (The best Drizzt book, kind of a shame we didn't get more Menzoberranzan)
