Division Winners

Recommended Posts

Yeah, picking the best team in the division is usually the smart call.

Funny anointing them as the best team preseason when they weren't last year.

:AFC:

-----------

:Broncos::Bengals: :Titans: :Patriots:

Broncos are almost a slam dunk pick for the division despite the fact that I expect the Chiefs and Chargers to both still be competitive. Ugh, wanted to pick the Steelers and Big Ben but with suspensions looming over both of their running backs, I think that will be enough to set them back. The Bengals do look to have a very strong team, but a difficult schedule so I'm a bit skeptical about picking them. Titans are currently the best overall team in their division and I believe in Locker after he owned the Chargers last year. Would be a fool to bet against the now healthy Pats but I really like the Jets defense....too bad I have zero faith in Geno, zero.

:NFC:

--------

:panthers: :Seahawks: :Eagles: :Bears:

Was heavily leaning towards the 49ers over the Seahawks but after the Chargers got raped in a overly rowdy stadium during the preseason, I am now convinced those fans and Pete Carroll will keep the fire burning under the Seahawks. Went with the Eagles only because they have my favorite RB and they are the reigning division champ. No defense will be played in that division. Panthers play my type of football and I expect them to continue to grind out everyone in that division. As for the Bears, strong offense and a better defense....expecting Cutler's best year yet.

Explain how the Titans are better overall than the Colts. Plahs.

Advantages the Colts have over the Titans

Healthy QB who is decent.

Maybe better linebackers?

Advantages the Titans have over the Colts

Runningbacks

Better WR's

Better offensive line

Better defensive line

Better Secondary

Better Special Teams

I mean in today's NFL that's a push but...

Saints got better, Panthers got worse. Losing Gross and a bad receiving corp getting even worse compared to a team adding one of the best free safeties in the league to an already great secondary, Brees being Brees, Graham being Graham, second year in Ryan's defense, etc.

For whatever it's worth I don't think the Panthers will be bad, but I think it's a pretty safe bet to say the Saints will be better. One thing that hurt the Saints last year was the team(Brees mostly) struggled on the road. He's had years in the past where he's done that before, but has never done it in back to back seasons with the Saints, not gonna assume he'll start now.

But hey, it's the NFL. For all I know Jacksonville is going 19-0 this year.

Just to echo some other posters, the Colts are better at QB and TE. But as I look at the rosters, I genuinely would take the Titans' players at literally every other position on the field. Some might nod to Indy's receivers, but I wouldn't. Not with Wayne's injury at his age and Nicks' inability to stay healthy recently.

Luck makes up for a lot, but not that much, in my opinion. And I'm a big Luck guy.

Dont see how the receiving corps got worse. Explained this already, its way overblown. We were 29th in the league last year and basically went from old aging guys and 2 people that only got contracts because Cam made them, to 2 #3 veterans and a ? with a big rookie WR who Cam already has some serious chemistry with. Cam's #1 target from last year is back, (Greg Olsen).

The Panthers regressed at O-line, but we have J-Stew back and if he stays healthy, (big if), that is a HUGE boost.

I ain't saying we're going to repeat by any means, no one ever has in the South, but I've had just about enough talk of the Saints. Losing Sproles is a large blow and I don't buy Ingram or the 2nd year dude whose name I cant remember being able to fill his shoes. Yes, they got Jairus Byrd and that was a great pickup, but the Saints really do not scare me. Still do not see them doing anything but a split with Carolina, unless I am way underestimating the loss of Gross, which I could be.

Kendall Wright better than Hilton.

What's so crazy about that Than?

Wright went 94/1079/2 catching passes from Locker (for a minute) and then Fitzpatrick.

Hilton went 82/1083/5 catching passes from Luck.

I think when you consider their situations, it's sort of a pick 'em. And I would pick Wright.

I'm aware the receiving corp was bad last year too. I simply claimed it got even worse, which it did. I like Benjamin, but receivers rarely ever have great rookie seasons. He could break out, but betting on that is risky.

The problem with signing 2 #3s and thinking that fixes the issues is those #3s, unless Benjamin breaks out, are going to be covered by CBs(for the most part) capable of covering #1s and #2s. Steve Smith might be on the decline but he still demanded respect, more than what anyone who is on the Panthers WR corp now ever has and probably ever will(with Benjamin the only one who has a chance to reach/surpass Smith).

Only reason it was a split last year was because Brees struggled on the road all year long. I'm not betting on that happening again.

Also have to hope Newton continues to develop. He was good last year, and has the potential to be even better, but if the Panthers want a good passing game he's going to have to take another step.

TY Hilton is a household name and Kendall Wright isn't.

Like nobody watches the Titans so most people don't even know who Wright is, but he's already as good as, if not already better than Hilton and this year will surpass him by a considerable amount. Wright has taken over training camp, no one, not even McCourty has been able to cover him with any consistency.

If Hunter continues to develop as a deep threat, Wright is gonna have a field day week in and week out if Locker stays healthy.

Sadly, Locker probably won't stay healthy.

I tend to commiserate with Titans fans because I understand what it's like in a media market where no one pays attention to you. The way people talk about Tennessee in the media, you'd think they were a 2-14 team with a talentless roster. They went 7-9 without their starting QB for most of the year.

And I see legit talent all over the place on that roster. Wright, Hunter, and Washington are a great trio at receiver. They probably have a top 5 offensive line with names like Roos and Levitre… plus Warmack and Schwenke in their second seasons and (hopefully) Lewan beating our Oher. I don't love the TE's or RB's but they certainly can't be termed weaknesses as groups. Perhaps average.

On defense Jurrell Casey may be the most underrated player in the NFL. He's in that conversation along with Jason McCourty. Otherwise on defense I just see youth and speed, especially at the second level. Ayers, Woodyard, Brown, Gooden, etc…

The way this team is covered is similar to how the Chargers were covered right up until we won @Denver on Thursday night (that was a tipping point in perception). Any time anyone is forced into discussing them (like in an AFCS preview or something like that), roster holes are mentioned and discussed at length. Roster strengths are glossed or ignored-- potentially because the speaker has no idea what they might be. And there's generally a poor understanding of what is going on with the team and why.

The other thing that bugs me is that no one even thinks to mention that they got two of the best HC candidates on the market to take different positions on their staff. If Ray Horton had gone to Dallas, the optimism over his impact would be all over the place. In Tennessee, seems like most forgot that he even signed there.

I think because it's debatable.
