Surprise of the day: Chiefs put S Eric Berry on NFI - no -football Illness, which means he is out for the year, per source.

 

Chiefs announced S Eric Berry will visit a lymphoma specialist in Atlanta to see if doctor can figure out what the mass in his chest is.

 

 

Wow. Big hit right there. Hope all goes alright for Eric.

Not sure, I think they are moving forward though like it is Lymphoma, though. It doesn't sound like he had a simple MRI or something and they found it.. I think they found it, got some bad news and are now going to a specialist. Just my uneducated opinion though.

Eric Berry's statement regarding his diagnosis
"I am truly thankful for all of the support from family, friends, coaches, teammates and the entire Chiefs kingdom. At first I was in shock with the diagnosis on Saturday and did not even want to miss a game, but I understand that right now I have to concentrate on a new opponent. I have great confidence in the doctors and the plan they are going to put in place for me to win this fight. I believe that I am in God's hands and I have great peace in that. I know my coaches and teammates will hold things down here the rest of the season and until I am back running out of the tunnel at Arrowhead. I am so thankful and appreciative of being a part of this franchise and playing in front of the best fans in the NFL. I will be back!"

Ya, definitely sounded that way at first so don't blame you there. Just digging a little further and kind of reading in between the lines though, i think you can draw some conclusions. Hope nothing but the best!

One of the greatest players to ever come through UT and a truly special talent, but even more than that appears to be one of the best people off the field too.

The Chiefs announced that SS Eric Berry has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

"This is a diagnosis that is very treatable and potentially curable with standard chemotherapy approaches," said Christopher R. Flowers, MD, who works at the Cancer Institute where Berry is undergoing treatment. "The goal of Mr. Berry’s treatment is to cure his lymphoma and we are beginning that treatment now." Berry's potential return to the football field will be put on hold for the foreseeable future. He's trying to beat cancer.

That really sucks. I'm usually more of a glass half empty kinda guy , so when I see wording like it might be 'potentially' curable... I just get knots in my stomach. Good luck in your fight Eric. Hope you kick cancers ass.
