QB Wonderlic Scores

Recommended Posts

Auburn QB Cam Newton reportedly scored a 21 on the Wonderlic Test at last month's Scouting Combine.

Other notable Wonderlics: Greg McElroy - 43, Christian Ponder - 35, Ricky Stanzi - 30, Andy Dalton - 29, Ryan Mallett - 26, Jake Locker - 20. The average score for quarterbacks, historically, is 24. Newton was probably going to avoid being "dinged" as long as he didn't score in the teens, so this is good news for the potential No. 1 overall pick. For perspective last year, Tim Tebow scored a 22 and Jimmy Clausen 23. Sam Bradford had a 36.

No surprise. He's always been known for his athletic ability and raw talent not his football IQ.

People claimed Vince Young's wonderlic score was of little coincidence too.

IQ is IQ man. Its all about intelligence. I think what you mean to say is Wonderlic score does not mean NFL success.

According to Paul Zimmerman, examples of average scores for each position are:

Offensive tackle – 26

Center – 25

Quarterback – 24 (Most teams want at least 21 for a quarterback.)[6]

Guard – 23

Tight end – 22

Safety – 19

Linebacker – 19

Cornerback – 18

Wide receiver – 17

Fullback – 17

Halfback – 16

lmfao.

Theres a direct connection, dumbass. Its a basic IQ test that allows team to evaluate how well a player can problem solve and retain information, which would help a team to see how well a player can examine a defense, learn a playbook, etc. Thats the reason they do it in the first place.

Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick scored a 37 on the Wonderlic Test at last month's Scouting Combine.

It's one answer off Kaepernick's score of 38 at the Nevada Junior Day a year ago. His score ranks second in this year's QB class, behind Greg McElroy (43) and Blaine Gabbert (42). Only Kaepernick and Gabbert are certain to be drafted.

Updating a previous item, Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert scored a 31 -- not a 42 -- on the Combine Wonderlic exam.

It's not nearly as impressive as Gabbert's initial score, which he recorded at the Athletes' Performance Institute while prepping for the Scouting Combine. Thus, the top two quarterback scores in Indy were posted by Greg McElroy (43) and Colin Kaepernick (37). They both beat out Sam Bradford's 36.

Haha Jake Locker was the lowest of the touted QB prospects...why doesn't that surprise me.
