seanbrock 1,684 Posted January 27, 2012 Ok so ESPN had this idea to make an any era team which is pretty cool because I've been talking with a lot of people about how this game has changed into a passing league and how guys from other era's would stack up in other eras so I want TGP to come up with an any era team. My idea is everybody lists 30 players they think could play in any era and the 20 guys with the most votes make the team. The idea is to list the toughest and best players in the game I'll start out with a list but I guess I should link you guys to ESPN's list. I'll start out with a critique of the ESPN list. They have 2 guys on there who are finesse pass rushers (Allen and Freeney) and I have REAL problem with guys like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady and honestly even Aaron Rodgers being on the list. The only QB in the league that isn't babied and deserves to be on this list is Roethlisberger. I mean, how do you NOT have Vince Wilfork on this list? Come on. My list Ray Lewis James Harrison Ben Roethlisberger Trent Cole Justin Smith Harvey Dahl Vince Wilfork Matt Birk Troy Polamalu Hines Ward Anquan Boldin Terrell Suggs Charles Tillman Richard Seymour Haloti Ngata Cortland Finnegan Antoine Winfield Brian Dawkins London Fletcher Larry Fitzgerald Carl Nicks Nick Mangold DeMarcus Ware Derrell Revis Adrian Wilson Jason Witten Rob Gronkowski Fred Jackson Maurice Jones-Drew Vontae Leach
DonovanMcnabb for H.O.F 2,241 Posted January 28, 2012 ESPN adding Tebow was also laughable. And they left Peppers off the list. Having any CB that's not Woodson would also be questionable because there was a time where forward passes were illegal. As far as our list... Having Fitzgerald, and not CJ is kinda fail... As well as not having Suh. I was only looking at Lions players though...
Shotgun 442 Posted January 28, 2012 (edited) I'm not going to put anyone with less than 4 years of experience. Ben Roethlisberger Peyton Manning Hines Ward Adrian Peterson Jason Witten Frank Gore Steve Hutchinson Olin Kreutz Fred Jackson Owen Schmitt MJD Ray Lewis James Harrison Troy Polamalu Brian Urlacher Patrick Willis Demarcus Ware Brian Dawkins Champ Bailey Charles Woodson Vince Wilfork Kyle Vanden Bosch (OH I GOT YOU GOOOOD) Richard Seymour Ryan Clark Darrelle Revis Casey Hampton Justin Smith Kyle Williams Haloti Ngata Earnest Graham, because I gotta have at least one homer pick The only problem I have with this is would most of these guys even play football if not for all the money? A lot of guys in previous eras played with some pretty bad injuries without making much. And they didn't have Toradol. That in itself is a quality older players have many new ones probably don't, and therefore would not be able to play in previous eras. Thanatos 2,847 Posted January 28, 2012 So just to clarify things, this is just players that are currently playing that we think would have been able to play football in any era of the game?
seanbrock 1,684 Posted January 28, 2012 I made my list MOSTLY off of toughness and their style of play though since I think that's what the topic was getting at. There are a lot more than 30 guys who could play in any era, but I feel like certain guys. Maybe I should have named it the throw back team idk.

badgers 380 Posted January 28, 2012 The description of this topic: ESPN got it wrong, we'll get it right God damn, why does TGP always have to mop up after ESPN's mistakes?

Would you stop with the Jared Allen hate already? The guy is a great ALL AROUND player. He is no "finesse" pass rusher. How many sacks has he gotten off of bull-rushing OTs? Quite a few. So when it comes to Jared Allen, shut the fuck up. On topic, your list is pretty legit.
