SteVo+ 3,702 Posted July 18, 2012 interesting. Is that just from flaws it has or everything else just being better? I would say the latter. As a James Bond film it did everything it was supposed to, and Daniel Craig is my second favorite Bond (next to the legendary Sean Connery, of course). It's just that the film didn't blow me away like I was expecting it to.
Vin+ 3,121 Posted July 19, 2012 Fair enough. What about True Grit? (I keep thinking of movies...)
SteVo+ 3,702 Posted July 19, 2012 What about True Grit? (I keep thinking of movies...) Wasn't a huge fan of that one. I'd probably like it more if I saw it again since I went into it with high expectations, but I didn't think it was anything special.
SteVo+ 3,702 Posted July 19, 2012 Iron Man? Very good but immensely overrated.
Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted July 19, 2012 What was special about King Kong? And Vin keeps asking about some good but not great movies... Everyone is wondering why Finding Nemo and Toy Story 3 couldn't even crack the top 50.
RazorStar 4,025 Posted July 19, 2012 King Kong obviously weaves a great narrative that films like Toy Story and Finding Nemo can't hope to match.

SteVo+ 3,702 Posted July 19, 2012 What was special about King Kong? And Vin keeps asking about some good but not great movies... Everyone is wondering why Finding Nemo and Toy Story 3 couldn't even crack the top 50. Finding Nemo is in the same class as Casino Royale: very entertaining movie but nothing that blew me away. It was cute but not great. Certainly not as charming or nearly as emotional as Up. Toy Story 3 is another one that is probably in the 51-60 range that may have cracked the list if I did the 26-50 group again (remember my thesis was only the top 25), but I did not think the third installment was on the level of the first two. As for King Kong, my commentary in the post summed up why I thought so highly of it but I'll summarize: it was a well done modern adaptation of a Hollywood classic with good performances all around and a surprising amount of emotional power considering the new Kong was all CGI. Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted July 19, 2012 Pixar films in general are very good at pulling at your emotions. They ALL do in some way or degree. Not only that, but you are getting elite level animation. Just looking at the shadows and play on light that they do is amazing. Then you have GREAT voice work, an amazing story, a good soundtrack... And another big plus in my book as far as Pixar goes is that they have A TON of adult humor. They aren't just kid movies, like so many people associate with animated films. And as far as Toy Story is concerned.. I don't think it's fair to say it didn't make the list in part because it wasn't as good as the other two. Firstly... Those other two movies are GREAT GREAT in their own right. Secondly.. This is a list over the films since 2000.. TS and TS2 are not included in that group. Look at Toy Story 3 on its own merits... It belongs in the Top 50.
KiLaSix9+ 398 Posted July 19, 2012 I was just really annoyed at how low you had Gladiator. I fucking love that movie man.
Milla4Prez63 678 Posted July 19, 2012 So, looking at the list. These are the only ones I can vivedly remember watching. Superbad Batman Begins King Kong Friday Night Lights The LOTR Movies Avatar Gladiator The Dark Knight Memento I saw bits and pieces of Tropic Thunder. But I really need to get one seeing more movies, Inception is #2 on my watch list behind Toy Story 3. I'll put The Social Network up there, but I probably shouldn't because if SteVo has it #1, it must suck ass. Any other recomedations?
