Carlos Santana has looked good in the WBC and I'm hoping it translates to the Indians.

I just remembered the arbitration clock, so there's almost no chance Cole is up before June, regardless of how easy he's gonna make it look in AAA.

@heelsonthefield 1h John Fayman is reporting that the Reds are turning the car around: they've decided to put Aroldis Chapman in the bullpen.

I see Marte putting up similar numbers to what Desmond Jennings did last season but less efficient in terms of stolen bases.

I disagree. I can easily see Marte hitting around .280 with 30+ steals.

He strikes out too much to hit .280 at this point IMO. He struck out in almost 1/3 of his ABs in the majors last year.

30 steals is likely but he gets thrown out too much.

I don't think it's a stretch to say Marte will get more selective with his bat this season though. I think he'll be fine.

Throughout his minor league career he's struck out a lot as well though, I don't think he's going to get selective enough to raise his average 20 points unless he pulls an Austin Jackson with the ridiculously high BABIP

This is apparently the lineup we're using Monday:

1. SS: Andrelton Simmons

2. RF: Jason Heyward

3. LF: Justin Upton

4. 1B: Freddie Freeman

5. CF: B.J. Upton

6. 2B: Dan Uggla

7. 3B: Chris Johnson

8. C: Gerald Laird

9. SP: Tim Hudson

The dropoff after BJ is pretty large. Oh well, GO BRAVES!

Sounds like someone got popped for steroids?

Sounds like this:

Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers have reached agreement on a new contract that could exceed $202 million, sources told ESPN's Buster Olney.

Verlander's deal, which would make him the highest-paid pitcher in the game, is for seven years and worth $180 million. A vesting option for an eighth year could push the deal to $202 million.

The Tigers announced they reached a five-year deal with Verlander.

In February, Felix Hernandez of the Seattle Mariners signed a seven-year contract worth $175 million, the top deal for a pitcher at the time.

Verlander, who would have been eligible to become a free agent after the 2014 season, had recently said he wouldn't discuss a new contract if a deal didn't get done by the end of spring training. The right-hander had $40 million and two years left on an $80 million contract.

Verlander, 30, has been baseball's most dominant pitcher over the last four seasons, leading the league in innings and strikeouts three times, wins twice and ERA once. He went 24-5 with a 2.40 ERA and 250 striikeouts in 2011 when he won both the Cy Young Award and MVP.

Last season, Verlander went 17-8 with a 2.64 ERA, finishing second in Cy Young voting to David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays. With Verlander as their anchor, the Tigers reached the World Series last season for the second time since 2006.

Buster Olney covers Major League Baseball for ESPN The Magazine.

Holy fucking shitballs.

I think...

1. Simmons SS

2. BJ Upton CF

3. Heyward RF

4. J. Upton LF

5. Freeman 1B

would work better 1-5.

I don't think it's out of the question for him to hit .280 in MLB this year. Bill James actually predicts him to hit .297. I think that's a bit too optimistic on Marte, but he obviously has talent...

On this Easter Sunday, that which died and left us empty will return to the mortal world and bring salvation to our souls. That which was sent from the Heavens then so cruelly snatched away from us hath graciously returned to give purpose to our lives. This return hath been prophesied, though not all believed this day would come. This Godsend promised salvation to us all and a full and purposeful life, and when this heaven-sent divinity was so cruelly snatched away, we felt empty, used and betrayed. I speak of course, of Major League Baseball.
