Omerta+ 1,206 Posted April 10, 2013 Rolando McClain didn't live up to expectations with the Oakland Raiders. Now, he'll try to replace a legend in Baltimore. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that the Ravens have agreed to a contract with linebacker Rolando McClain. The one-year contract is worth $700,000 with incentives. McClain would be line to step into Ray Lewis' former role. McClain will be in Baltimore on Friday to take a physical and meet with coach John Harbaugh and general manager Ozzie Newsome, who will speak to McClain about the expectations they have for the former first-round draft pick who flamed out with the Raiders. McClain cleared waivers Monday and immediately attracted the interest of five NFL teams, receiving three offers on Monday alone. It's likely each offer was similar to what the Ravens gave him -- a one-year, make-good deal. This is a minor investment that could pay significant dividends ... if McClain gets his head on straight. Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun reported Wednesday that the Ravens' committment to McClain will hinge on his "approach to football (and) life." In other words, McClain is on a short leash. This is pretty awesome. 700,000 for someone who could play damn good football and give us the option to tag him and work on an extension next year....Hells yeah. CribbsForTheWin 117 Posted April 11, 2013 No way does he play well enough that the Ravens would tag him. But he could play pretty well and warrant an extension. I just dont see them tagging him for what the top 5? (I think) LBs in the NFL make after one good year, and then try on an extension. This is a good signing for them, as it would have been for any team really. He has the talent, just never lived up to it. Maybe a change of scenery will do him well. KeVo 176 Posted April 12, 2013 I think he may fare a sight better playing in a defense more suited to his skills if he ever gets his off-field issues sorted out. The Raiders are a heavy 4-3 team, whereas the Ravens use both schemes.
RANGA+ 1,210 Posted April 12, 2013 McClain seems much more suited to being an ILB in a 3-4. Good pickup by the Ravens.
baltimoreravens 19 Posted April 12, 2013 Ozzie is probably the best GM ever.
Glanvilles Grits 142 Posted April 12, 2013 This is a good pick up for the Ravens, yet again. He may not have played up to his potential yet, but I think most people know what he could be capable of if he were to put all his effort into football. For the price they paid, Ravens fans can't be upset about this one.
NaTaS+ 958 Posted April 16, 2013 If he pans out, great pick up. If he doesnt, they didnt lose much. Ozzie is the man.
