GA_Eagle 595 Posted July 13, 2013 This thread was done once before a while back but it had some interesting results. I couldn't find the original so here's a new one. Take musicians from any era and music type and put them together to make a band that you would like to see. Take into account their personalities and how they would mesh and what kind of music you think they would make. If you want to give the band a name and other details feel free. Let us know why you picked them too. Here's one I think would be fun: Andrew W.K. - Keyboards, everything else, Vocals Joe Strummer - Guitar, Vocals Black Francis - Guitar, Vocals Peter Hook - Bass Bill Stevenson - Drums I couldn't decide between Strummer or Frank Black. I fully realize that this band does not require 2 guitarists but I wanted both of their voices. I think this band would be a cool kinda rocking but odd punk influenced band. NaTaS+ 958 Posted July 13, 2013 Vocals: Freddy Mercury Bass: Les Claypool Guitar/Vocals: Duane Allman Guitar/Vocals: Stevie Ray Vaughan Drummer: Neil Peart I can only dream on what type of music they'd put out. Certainly rock, but some southern rock influences.

BwareDWare94 723 Posted July 13, 2013 Vocals: Chris Cornell (Soundgarden) Lead and Rhythm Guitar, Vocals: Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains) Lead and Rhythm Guitar, Backing Vocals: Mark Tremonti (in the style of Alter Bridge but with post-grunge Creed influence to mesh with Cantrell) Bass: Ryan Martinie (Mudvayne) Drums: Dirk Virbeuren (Soilwork) Cornell can sing to any kind of heavy music, and with Cantrell and Tremonti in the loop, the grunge influence would be there so it wouldn't sound so out place. Cantrell's sludge riffs and sick solos would blend well with Cornell's voice, but when the band went heavier with Tremonti's style, Jerry's talented enough to keep pace. Mark and Jerry would do a lot of dual solos, and they're so different that it would be very noticeable and a lot of fun to listen to. Mark can play a million notes a second; Jerry makes every note count. Ryan is a very underrated bassist who has transcended genres with Mudvayne over the years. His math metal background with Mudvayne's earlier work would allow him to keep pace with Tremonti and Cantrell. Dirk is an extremely technical drummer in the Melodic Death Metal band Soilwork, and he'd push each of the remaining musicians to their technical peak, but he also knows how to slow it down when necessary, as evidenced by Soilwork's music.
NaTaS+ 958 Posted July 13, 2013 ^ Layne Staley would work out awesome in your group.
Bay 2,003 Posted July 13, 2013 Vocals - Ian Gillian Lead Guitarist -Randy Rhoads Rhythm Guitarist - Johnny Ramone Bass -Matt Freeman Drums - Topper Headon Classic Metal vocals and lead guitar with all-punk rhythm section. BwareDWare94 723 Posted July 13, 2013 (edited) ^ Layne Staley would work out awesome in your group. I agree but I decided to keep it to living musicians. I prefer Layne to Cornell quite easily, but for the heavy sound I wanted, I couldn't use Vedder instead of Cornell. He just doesn't fit a metal mould, imo. Vin+ 3,121 Posted July 13, 2013 Ideally it'd be something along the lines of: Vocals - Chris Cornell, Maynard James Keenan, James Hetfield Rhythm Guitar - James Hetfield Lead Guitar - Buckethead/Hetfield Bass - Bryan Herweg/Buckethead Drums - Danny Carey I think you'd have to go with different lineups for each song that was created: Cornell/MJK doing vocals together, MJK/Hetfield vocals, Hetfield/Buckethead (both doing actual songs and instrumentals), MJK/Buckethead (Both of them just doing weird stuff). I'm not sure if it would work, or if the songs would even be good, but I'd like to see it try.
BwareDWare94 723 Posted July 13, 2013 Harsh Vocals: Randy Blythe (Lamb of God) Lead and Rhythm Guitar, Clean Vocals: Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge) Lead and Rhythm Guitar, Clean Vocals: Shane Blay (Oh, Sleeper) Bass Guitar, Clean Vocals: Josh Gilbert (As I Lay Dying) Drums, Clean Vocals: Brann Dailor (Mastodon) This is more of a full-on metal assault due to Blythe, but the combination of the four clean vocalists in this band would add an unpredictability to the music that would be extremely enticing. Though Kennedy is far superior vocally to the other three clean vocalists, he would be saved for vocally sensitive parts of certain songs. He's also an excellent guitarist, and his style clashing with Shane Blay's would be a lot of fun riff and solo wise. Josh Gilbert is an incredible bassist, as evidenced by his presence of Pyrithion's death metal EP. Brann Dailor is incredibly versatile as a drummer, as showcased by Mastodon's discography. He's also a capable singer, though I think he'd do more harmonizing than anything. This band would showcase Blythe's incredible vocals and lyrics, as well as the incredible talent of the four instrumentalists involved. It'd be an incredibly crushing and yet startlingly melodic piece of American metal.
GA_Eagle 595 Posted July 14, 2013 Vocals/Guitar Ryan Adams Vocals/Keyboard Jeff Tweedy (wilco) Drums/Vocals/keyboard/guitar Levin Helm (the band) Bass Victor Wooten (Bela Fleck) This would probably be an Americana type band but Wooten can do anything and could take it in unexpected directions. BwareDWare94 723 Posted July 14, 2013 (edited) I would love for a Nashville/Texas country crossover band to form of the greats from both genres with acoustic guitars writing songs together. Wade Bowen: Acoustic Guitar, Vocals, primary songwriter Randy Travis: Primary vocalist Eric Church: Acoustic Guitar, Vocals, primary songwriter Randy Rogers: Acoustic Guitar, Vocals, primary songwriter Jamey Johnson, Acoustic Guitar, Primary vocalist, primary songwriter. That tour--3 Nashville greats, two Texas greats, the 4 songwriters writing together for Randy Travis' and Jamey Johnson's voices...goddamn. BwareDWare94 723 Posted July 17, 2013 Vocals, Piano, Songwriter: Isaac Slade (The Fray) Lead and Rhythm Guitar, Vocals, Songwriter: John Mayer Lead Vocals, Lead and Rhythm Guitar, Mandolin, Violin, Banjo, Songwriter: J. Loren Wince (Hurt) Bass Guitar, Songwriter: Geddy Lee (Rush) Drums, Songwriter: Joey Jordison (Slipknot) Now I know that this combination is strange, but I feel like each artist in this group transcends genres fairly easily, especially Jordison and Wince. I think this band would have a progressive sound with blues and folk influence. The bluesy side would obviously be added by Mayer and Slade, whereas the progressive sound would be formed by Wince, Lee, and Jordison, of which all three could handle blues side fairly easily. Jordison is known for playing multiple rhythms at once, and I think this band would better display his talents, as well as the multiple instruments that Wince can play. Lots of violin and mandolin in the harmonies, I think, and the vocals would go around the table, though Wince would take lead for certain songs.
