Minny 33 Posted July 22, 2013 (edited) Denver Broncos Pro Bowl linebacker Von Miller is facing a four-game suspension for violating NFL policy, per multiple sources. The case currently is in the appeals process so it's uncertain whether the suspension ultimately will stand. The league has a strict confidentiality clause on such cases. If the case works the way it's supposed to, the NFL would only comment if the appeal failed. Adam Schefter, ESPN Edited August 20, 2013 by Favre4Ever
KempBolt 498 Posted July 22, 2013 (edited) Quite the offseason that the Broncos are having. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/07/22/report-von-miller-facing-a-four-game-suspension/ The Broncos may need to sign John Abraham, after all. With sack specialist Elvis Dumervil already gone for Baltimore, sack specialist Von Miller may not be available for the Broncos, for at least the first four games of the 2013 season. According to ESPN, Miller currently is facing a four-game suspension for violating league policy. The suspension currently is under appeal. If it’s the PED policy, it means Miller had one violation. If it’s the substance-abuse policy, it means he’s had multiple violations. Either way, it means that someone has been blabbing, in direct violation of the NFL’s requirement that unresolved suspensions remain strictly confidential. It happened last year to Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, who now carries in some minds the stigma of cheater, even though he won his appeal and avoided a suspension. And it now will happen to Miller, even if he prevails. That said, it’s still not clear whether Miller allegedly violated the policy regarding performance-enhancing substances, or whether he violated multiple times the policy regarding recreational drugs — one of which is now legal to use in the state where the Broncos play their home games. The appeal could be resolved before the start of the regular season, or it could linger. Much of it depends on the complexity of the case, which possibly includes a defense based on Miller claiming his result was skewed by breathing chicken-coop fumes. Can't wait for Crash to explain to me how this would actually benefit Denver. Edited July 25, 2013 by KempBolt
Minny 33 Posted July 22, 2013 My guess is it's marijuana related, seeing as it's legal in Colorado and all. If his appeal fails, I wonder if the Broncos will consider bringing in John Abraham?
KempBolt 498 Posted July 22, 2013 Now this suspension isn't finalized yet, and there's no indication whether it is related to PED's or other substance abuses (recreational), but it certainly casts some suspicion on Miller. He has looked markedly more explosive than almost every other player on the field during his career to date. And sometimes (not always) when a player looks too good to be true, it's because it's not true. If he's juicing, then it's shameful that an athlete of his ability would feel the need to cheat to gain a yet bigger edge. If he's not, then it's a shame that such a special talent will likely have his accomplishments called into question because of this.
KempBolt 498 Posted July 22, 2013 If it turns out to be PED's, then what a POS... While I don't have any tolerance for anyone using drugs like that, I can at least understand it in a fringe player who's trying to get himself into the league or onto a roster. But when you're a world-class athlete like Miller? He's good enough to be a pro-bowler in this league w/out drugs. So if he's using them (and it's definitely still an IF), then he deserves everything he gets as far as punishment.
DonovanMcnabb for H.O.F 2,241 Posted July 22, 2013 Apparently it is weed and molly. News is pouring in this morning in relation to Von Miller's possible four game suspension, Vic Lombardi of Denver's KCNC and 104.3 The Fan reported that there were two substances at play. One was marijuana. An hour later 104.3 The Fan's Brandon Krisztal reports on ESPN's Sports Center via a source that he trusts says that the other substance was molly. http://www.milehighreport.com/2013/7/22/4545742/molly-apparenty-the-other-positive-substance-for-von-miller Failed drug test his rookie year and one recently. theMileHighGuy 656 Posted July 22, 2013 This is freaking tragic. I don't even have words for how depressed I am. Von Miller strikes me as a pretty intelligent guy. MDMA, at the LONGEST, will show up on a piss test for no more than FIVE days. How the fark are you so god damn stupid when training camp is right around the corner? He had to be poppin them last week to fail that. Herb will stay in your system for around a month, but it's likely he was doing that at the same time. Training camp is literally days away... The Broncos' organization looks like a night club in the '70s right now.

AL_Royalty 489 Posted July 22, 2013 Could this be the next Shawn Merriman? I'm not saying this dude is juicing, but he really is such an animal that it is the first thing that came to mind when I first heard that he might be suspended. I guess we'll know if he falls off hard this season.

What would be easier to swallow- this, where it looks like Von is a total dumbass doing drugs a week prior to TC, or PED's?

I would completely lose all respect for him. I may even change the nameplate on my jersey. I'm hearing now that it possibly might not even be for the substance policy, which could be much, much worse. Edited July 22, 2013 by theMileHighGuy

BwareDWare94 723 Posted July 22, 2013 With the way young players are breaking out immediately, it's pretty obvious that there's a high level of PED use in the NFL. I formally predict that in fifteen years there will be an asterisk next to the first to fifth year statistics of a lot of the young defensive players in the NFL. JJ Watt, Aldon Smith, Von Miller, Richard Sherman--I'm primarily looking at you four. Sherman already should have faced suspension.
theMileHighGuy 656 Posted July 22, 2013 @MillerLite40 36m Seeing reports abt 4 game susp. I know I did nothing wrong. I'm sure this'll be resolved fairly. Disapp. Broncos have 2 open camp like this

The Broncos' organization looks like a night club in the '70s right now. That's a myth. Depending on your metabolism it can be out much faster. Professional athletes who get busted smoking weed have either probably smoke VERY recently or he just smokes weed every damn day. When you have as many supplements and work out as much as this guy does, weed doesn't stay in your system for that long. Not sure what kind of testing they use for the NFL, but I would imagine that Von is a regular smoker.

I'm sure a lot of the NFL smokes frequently.

RazorStar 4,025 Posted July 22, 2013 Tanard Jackson destroyed his career because of weed, hate to see the same thing happen to us. In any case, the season is over and we've already surrendered. Ravens roll, Super Bowl Repeat.

Glanvilles Grits 142 Posted July 22, 2013 Damn. This changes my entire outlook on the Colts season. That may sound a little over board, but is it? I mean, you're talking about a team that already had questions popping up with their pass rush. Now with the possibility that they may lose Von Miller for 4 games, who are they going to turn to in terms of producing pressure? They don't really have options in that aspect. They need Von Miller. Sure, you can say it's only 4 games but in the NFL today, 4 games could be the difference of making the playoffs. I really hope he didn't do anything wrong to any serious extent. Hate seeing players throw away any chances of being a clean, dominant player.
