Vin+ 3,121 Posted October 29, 2016 Jaguars fired OC Greg Olson. QBs coach Nathaniel Hackett is expected to take over as coordinator. This firing seemed inevitable with Blake Bortles getting worse every week. Olson certainly did not help matters by abandoning the running game even when it was working in recent weeks, something which reportedly upset coach Gus Bradley, but the offense is being held hostage by Bortles' mechanical issues, issues the new coordinator failed to fix as the QBs coach. Perhaps the team enjoys a new-coach bump, but the Jags' offensive issues are not going away as long as Bortles is playing like a bottom-tier quarterback. Source: ESPN Jaguars QBs coach Nathaniel Hackett has been promoted to offensive coordinator. The Bills OC from 2013-14, Hackett is taking over for Greg Olson, who was fired on Saturday. Olson was fired in part because of his reluctance to stick with the running game even when it was working, but Blake Bortles is the real issue. Now the Jaguars are relying on Bortles' position coach, who was not able to fix his mechanical issues when focusing just on one position, to save the offense. Perhaps Hackett can bring some balance, but the team will continue to struggle as long as Bortles is playing like a bottom-tier quarterback. Source: Adam Caplan on Twitter CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports Nathaniel Hackett's promotion to offensive coordinator "paves the way" for Doug Marrone to take over as interim head coach. Marrone was passed up for the recently-promoted Hackett, but Jacksonville is saving him for if/when Gus Bradley gets fired. Bradley's job security is week to week after scapegoating Greg Olson. Marrone managed a nine-win season before overrating his interest and opting out of Buffalo. The Jaguars offensive line has been among the worst in the league under him, but Marrone is the only in-house candidate to replace Bradley. Source: Jason LaCanfora on Twitter The Bills led the league in rushing attempts under OC Nathaniel Hackett in 2013. Hackett is more run balanced than Greg Olson, but we're not expecting him to turn around Jacksonville's offense. Easily figured out after some first-year success, he was let go with ex-Bills HC Doug Marrone after two seasons. The Jaguars are one of the worst run blocking teams in the league, but could use their backs more in the pass game with Hackett, where C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson were heavily involved. Even with Hackett taking over, Jacksonville should finish near the bottom of the league in rushing.
DonovanMcnabb for H.O.F 2,241 Posted October 30, 2016 They need a compete overhaul, I doubt it does, but it would be interesting to see what of this sparks something on offense.
Bucman 891 Posted October 30, 2016 Jags are basically of the Bucs of the AFC. Looks like they have a ton of talent but they end up sucking. Its either poor coaching or maybe the talent we think they have doesn't exist.
oochymp 2,393 Posted October 30, 2016 Our qb has been struggling, you know what I think will help? Let's take the guy who's supposed to be coaching our struggling qb and give him control of the whole offense.
Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted October 30, 2016 Yeah, that is the thing. Not only is he playing poorly, but he is mechanically atrocious. Like, if Bortles was just playing bad, you can make an excuse that maybe it isn't Hackett's fault. But Bortles is flawed from a fundamentals perspective, which this far into his career is definitely Hackett's fault for not correcting, lol.
Sarge+ 3,436 Posted October 30, 2016 This is just another excuse to keep the Gus Bus on the road a few more weeks... even with 4 flat tires.
blotsfan 2,112 Posted October 30, 2016 Just as a warning: you don't want to be the 2013 Bills. Or really any Bills team that I can remember.
BwareDWare94 723 Posted October 31, 2016 I wondered what the problem was with Jasonville's offense, then I found out Greg Olson had been their OC. How he still had a coordinating job in 2013 is beyond me.
Vin+ 3,121 Posted October 31, 2016 The funny part about Olson is that he was with us in 2012 and wasn't retained, and then we bring him back three years later in an expanded role.
