Carimi off to Tampa for a sixth rd pick.

Recommended Posts

Buccaneers acquired G/T Gabe Carimi from the Bears in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick in 2014.

Bears GM Phil Emery is throwing in the towel on the 29th overall pick in the 2011 draft after two years of dismal play. In 2012, Pro Football Focus graded Carimi 73rd among 80 qualifying offensive tackles, and 78th in pass protection. Carimi did handle himself much better in four appearances in right guard. The Bears were going to audition Carimi there full-time in training camp. Instead, he's off to Tampa Bay to compete for a roster spot. The Bucs have one of the better lines in football, so Carimi would do well to earn a sixth-man role. Related: Bears

We need depth on the offensive line, so it isn't the end of the world to take a look at Carimi. Especially since he was coached by our o-line coach at Wisconsin. Not expecting much though.

Agree! Yep,Bostad is familiar with Carimi after coaching him at Wisconsin. Hopefully Bostad can get something out of Carimi that the Bears' OL coaches have not been able to get...he was a 1st round pick so he definitely has the potential and talent to be a quality starter, or even a back up if someone goes down. And we gave up virtually nothing to get him, so it’s worth taking a chance on him. Good pick up!

Nice trade. Giving up a 6th rounder really isn't anything and Carimi obviously has some potential/talent, seeing as he was a 1st rounder just 2 years ago. He adds good depth to the o-line and can play OG or OT, which also provides good versitality. And he will be reuniting with his o-line coach in college, Bob Bostad, so I am really liking this move. Good stuff, Dom.

If they can convince him to stay at guard, I think it is a hell of a move by the Bucs. Low risk, potentially a solid / high reward.

We can finally get rid of Larsen :panic:. Solid low risk move that could pay off in the end.

Good low risk, (potentially) high reward move. I like it.

For a 6th rounder, they can't really go wrong here. Especially if they can convince him to play at guard and be happy about it. Talk about some depth.

@PewterReport:Carimi is expected to compete with Demar Dotson at RT according to GM Mark Dominik, but can also play guard. Versatile player.
