housemd 338 Posted June 25, 2013 Lions signed DL Israel Idonjie to a one-year contract. After spending the first nine years of his career with the Bears, Idonjie decides to stay in the division and join one of the league's top defensive lines. Capable of rushing the passer from both the end and tackle spots, he has racked up 20.5 sacks over the last three seasons while playing in Lovie Smith's 4-3 scheme. Idonjie will be a high-quality rotation piece in a unit that boasts Ndamukong Suh, Nick Fairley, Jason Jones and rookie Ziggy Ansah as starters
Dutch 874 Posted June 25, 2013 I think this was a solid pick up.
DonovanMcnabb for H.O.F 2,241 Posted June 25, 2013 I love all the talent being added to the line. Now how all these snaps are gonna be split up is gonna be interesting.
KempBolt 498 Posted June 26, 2013 That's a great pickup for Detroit. If Ansah shows up as a rookie, I think they'll have the best 4 man front in the game.
Glanvilles Grits 142 Posted June 26, 2013 Right now their line sounds scary. It will be interesting to see how they put all the pieces together though.
Turry 755 Posted June 26, 2013 Izzy ... 'Sigh'. Izzy has a great motor and can play DT as well. He is a DE with the lions though.
Vin+ 3,121 Posted June 27, 2013 New Lions DL Israel Idonije had 51 quarterback disruptions last season, just three fewer than Jason Pierre-Paul. Idonije did his damage on 56 fewer pass-rush attempts. He can also stop the run from left end and rush from the inside on nickel downs. Although Idonije will turn 32 in November, the Lions stole a highly productive player. Pro Football Focus suggests that this year's Detroit defensive line might be better than the 2010 unit that graded out best in the entire league. Vin+ 3,121 Posted June 29, 2013 Israel Idonije's one-year deal with the Lions is worth $840,000, and includes $485,000 in guaranteed money. Idonije can earn $65,000 in bonuses for a potential total of $905,000. Because he was signed for the veteran's minimum, Idonije's cap hit is only $620,000. The Lions let Cliff Avril walk in free agency, and subsequently found themselves lacking depth at defensive end. Idonije will give Detroit quality snaps in their defensive line rotation. TheMet 7 Posted June 30, 2013 This is going to be a much improved D-line this year, nice job on adding some good depth in the off-season. I also like the Hope pickup as well. Both look like solid fits in Detroit.
AllYouNeedIsLovie 377 Posted June 30, 2013 Damn, the Lions d-line has a lot of depth. I am shocked Idonjie was on the market so long.
Glanvilles Grits 142 Posted June 30, 2013 Perhaps they are thinking that if the secondary plays like junk again this year they can just get to the quarterback before he can pick on them all day.
LionsFan317 1 Posted July 23, 2013 Right now their line sounds scary. It will be interesting to see how they put all the pieces together though. Maybe they'll even add J. Abraham to replace Durant before it's all said and done also than they would hands down have the best pass rush in all of football not just the NFC North!
