Danario Alexander suffers torn right ACL

Recommended Posts

Per Rotoworld.com:

Danario Alexander has been diagnosed with a torn right ACL, and is done for the season.

Brutal. The news is especially devastating for the brittle fourth-year pro because it's Alexander's left knee that had previously given him so much trouble. DX has undergone five left-knee operations since his sophomore year of college. Now with major injuries to both knees, it's fair to wonder if the gifted 6-foot-5 wideout will ever play again. Alexander was one of the major developments of the 2012 fantasy season, erupting for 34 catches, 597 yards and seven touchdowns over his final eight games. His injury locks in Malcom Floyd, Vincent Brown and rookie Keenan Allen as the Chargers' top-three receivers. It's going to be another long year for Philip Rivers. Aug 6 - 7:16 PM

Damn. Saw so much potential in him at the end of last year...and thought that he'd improve significantly under a new system in Mike McCoy. Tragic.

Sucks... and honestly my first thought is for him rather than the Chargers. He's a great guy by all accounts- never complains and works hard. Just can't catch a break.

And it does hurt us too. I will say, though, that WR was probably the best place the lose a starter if it had to happen. We sill have Floyd, Brown, Allen, Royal, and Meachem.

Definitely sucks. I've been hoping Mike Willie gets carried onto our team or at least retained to the PS...seems like this is his chance to make the roster.

Damn man... I feel really bad for DX. Dude is like the Greg Oden of the NFL when it comes to his knees.

Another big loss to an ACL, this offseason is brutal. Feel terrible for the guy after he finally started to show out last season. Best of luck to him in his recovery.

This guy had all the potential in the world but injuries have really derailed his career and this may be the final straw.

Rookie WR Keenan Allen mixed in with the first-team offense during the Chargers' first practice without Danario Alexander (torn ACL).

Vincent Brown (hamstring) was rested for some reps, and Allen benefited by working with the ones opposite Malcom Floyd and Eddie Royal. Brown is out for San Diego's preseason opener, so Allen should get opportunities to play with the Philip Rivers group in three-wideout sets. He's the No. 4 receiver right now.

A source tells FOX Sports that free agent Danario Alexander is dealing with major complications from his latest knee surgery.

Alexander initially underwent an ACL repair on his right knee back in August and then needed a second "revision" surgery in January. Now he's had even more surgeries because of an infection, leaving his ability to play in 2014 in major doubt. Alexander's left knee was already in questionable shape due to five earlier surgeries. Although he's just 25 years old, his career is in jeopardy -- a shame for a player that posted 1,781 yards as a senior at Missouri and showed difference-making NFL ability as Philip Rivers' No. 1 receiver for a rare healthy stretch of the 2012 season.
