Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted January 31, 2014 The owner of the St. Louis Rams has bought a large piece of land in Inglewood that potentially could be used for an NFL stadium, multiple individuals with knowledge of the transaction have told The Times. Within the last month, billionaire Stan Kroenke bought a 60-acre parking lot located between the Forum and Hollywood Park, according to individuals who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak on behalf of the buyer or seller. Wal-Mart originally owned the land but sold it after failing to get public approval for a superstore. Madison Square Garden Co., which owns the Forum, had planned to buy the lot for an estimated $90 million in order to acquire more space for parking and possibly additional development. However, MSG was informed by Wal-Mart at the end of 2013 that the land had already been sold to an unnamed party. The individuals confirmed the buyer is Kroenke, a former Wal-Mart board member and husband of Ann Walton Kroenke, daughter of Wal-Mart co-founder Bud Walton. For years, Kroenke has owned a substantial amount of land in Southern California. LA Times Maybe this is just worthless connecting of dots and jumping to conclusions, but... Doesn't this just kind of make too much sense? Especially with their division rivals in Glendale , Seattle, and San Francisco.
seanbrock 1,684 Posted January 31, 2014 Yeah I think right now is a good time to give LA a team. The Rams are stock piling some talent having traded back a few years. They're looking to do so again this year and if they do pull that off they will no doubt add even more peices. They're in a tough division, but that'll just toughen them up. The Rams really should in the next year or two be able to put a really good football team on the field.
RANGA+ 1,210 Posted February 1, 2014 I think the Rams could use a move either way. Could give them the new lease of life they need...
Vin+ 3,121 Posted February 1, 2014 Speaking of leases, their St. Louis lease is up, so they can leave penalty free after the '14 season. This is either a done deal, or a leverage play, but I don't know what the ownership would be getting out of it. I don't think they need a new stadium, but maybe they do. theMileHighGuy 656 Posted February 1, 2014 Could be a leverage move. 60 acres in LA is a good investment, football team or no.
BC 331 Posted February 1, 2014 Hasn't this been happening for like 8 years now?
SteVo+ 3,702 Posted February 2, 2014 I didn't realize the Rams were having issues in St. Louis. They haven't had any blackouts or anything as I recall, so is this just ownership seeing a better possibility?
southgadawg 52 Posted February 2, 2014 Seems like I read somewhere that the Rams have consistently ranked in the bottom 5 in attendance the last few years and have asked the local gov't for several hundred million in upgrades. Buying the 60 acres is possibly a hedge.....allows the team to use it as a bargaining chip or if they have to cash in very likely move the team.
