Greatest Rock Vocalist of All-Time Nomination/Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Because we needed a new thread. I expect this entire event to be super-active, so if it's not, know that I am going to be deeply disappointed in you all. :(

Nominating:

Here's how the nominating process works: each member can nominate up to 25 vocalists and you may designate a top 5 (in no particular order) for the tournament. You do not have to name 25 total. Once we get the list compiled, I'll set up a bracket and then the voting shall commence and awesomeness shall ensue.

Feel free to edit your lists and whatnot, as this'll be open for a while.

There are a lot of great names here, but for straight up singer for me it's Steve Perry and Freddy Mercury then the rest of the pile. Those guys are just unreal, and can hit notes in natural voice that men don't typically get to. Both wore skinny jeans before these hipster fucks thought they could pull it off.

If I had to pick 5:

Steve Perry

Freddie Mercury

Robert Plant

Lita Ford

Ian Gillan

Frontman is a different animal to me. You have to be a singer, work the crowd, entertain, etc, and it helps if you're also playing an instrument.

Geddy Lee (Was fortunate to go to the 30th anniversary tour in Pittsburgh... life changing.)

Freddy Mercury (Didn't play anything consistently, but he touched every inch of the stage)

Alice Cooper (Saw him 12 years ago right out of highschool, he puts on a hell of a show)

Axl Rose (In GnR's hayday he was probably the best showstopper going... when he wasn't actually stopping shows)

Max Collins (Eve 6, feels odd ranking him with these guys, but I've been to two Eve 6 shows in my life and they rank with some of the best, he's awesome.)

Ozzy (Never personally have seen Ozzy perform, but from live shows I've watched and stories recanted from my dad and his friends, he was pretty incredible in his prime)

Edit: wanted to add John Popper to both my lists. Been listening to a lot of old Blues Traveler lately and he has a pretty incredible voice and range. See: The Mountains Win Again. Great songwriter too.

There's no set criteria. It's your list.

I'm not a huge Opeth fan, but I'm surprised more people don't have Akerfeldt listed. Dude's got a good voice.

I know of Opeth, never really listened to 'em so I can't say.

+1 for Fogs.

I would be legitimately surprised if more than you and me know who Opeth is. I guess it wouldn't completely stun me if either ATL or Bay knew of Opeth and Akerfeldt, but I've never thought of Opeth as that well known.

I forget to list John Fogerty.

Don't act like nobody knows Opeth.

You forget that I'm in North Dakota. My home county has barely 11000 people. The biggest city I'm in regularly is Grand Forks (60K). I've met like 5 total people who have a clue who Opeth is.
