Kawann gonna be Kagone?

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Panthers walk-year DT Kawann Short will report for camp.

Short sat out OTAs, but he returned for the mandatory portion of the offseason program. He should be the Panthers' No. 1 contract priority heading into the preseason, but reports have suggested GM Dave Gettleman is unwilling to pay much more than $15 million per season on a new deal. With Fletcher Cox and Muhammad Wilkerson both recently getting more than $17 million annually, that likely will not be enough to get something done.

If those reports are true, Short will be playing for a new team in 2017.

The fact that you're unsure is insulting. :p

Panthers assigned the franchise tag to DT Kawann Short.

It's a move the Panthers admitted was all but inevitable earlier this month. Short's non-exclusive tag is worth approximately $14.77 million. One of the league's very best interior linemen, Short would have been the subject of an intense bidding war on the open market. He's rumored to be seeking $17-$19 million per season in long-term talks. Short turned 28 on Feb. 2. With Star Lotulelei's contract up after 2017 and 2016 first-rounder Vernon Butler on the rise, Short could have only one year left in Carolina.

Panthers re-signed DT Kawann Short to a five-year, $80 million contract.

Short had yet to sign his franchise tag, and the two sides beat the July deadline with ease. At $16 million per year, Short becomes the league's third-highest-paid 4-3 defensive tackle behind Ndamukong Suh and Fletcher Cox. Short was said to be seeking $17-19 million annually. With Short now locked up through 2021, the Panthers could be forced to let fellow DT Star Lotulelei walk as a free agent next spring. Carolina used a first-rounder on DT Vernon Butler last year. Short was Pro Football Focus' No. 3 defensive tackle last season behind Aaron Donald and Suh.

Honestly a pretty fair price for a DT of Short's caliber. I expected him to settle for nothing less than the #1 paid DT in the league.

That was never gonna happen. Look at that disaster. I think even Short would agree that that contract is a disaster.... for the team anyway. Lol

I think he could have gotten it on the open market, was my point.
