ATL_Predator+ 1,196 Posted February 7, 2017 James Kratch of NJ Advance Media considers it a "very strong possibility" Victor Cruz is released this offseason. Cruz is owed $7.5 million in salary and bonuses, and the Giants can save all of that against the cap if they decide to move on. Cruz has hinted he is open to a pay cut similar to the one he accepted last offseason, but the Giants need an upgrade opposite Odell Beckham and likely will just decide to move on. Cruz recorded 39 catches for 586 yards and a touchdown in 15 games in 2016. Source: Newark Star-Ledger Feb 7 - 9:35 AM With rise of young Sterling Shepard, and the headcase/talent that is OBJ... Cruz is the odd man out in the Giants WR trio. Giants will most likely be looking to save money, and he's just not the same player as he was years ago. It's a business. 1
FartWaffles 1,857 Posted February 13, 2017 http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/6313/victor-cruz Giants released WR Victor Cruz. This was an easy move for GM Jerry Reese. Despite Cruz's pleas to remain with the team, it made no sense to bring him back at his $9.4 million cap number. With the move, the Giants save $7.5 million against the cap. After missing 26 straight games from 2014-2015, Cruz returned this season to nab 39 catches for 586 yards and one score. At 30 years old coming off numerous lower-body injuries, including a patellar tendon tear, Cruz simply isn't the same player anymore. Finding a capable outside receiver opposite Odell Beckham should be a priority. Sterling Shepard played over 80 percent of his rookie snaps in the slot. oochymp 2,393 Posted February 13, 2017 $9.4M is way too much to pay a third WR, but he could get a pretty good payday somewhere else

seanbrock 1,684 Posted February 21, 2017 $9.4M is way too much to pay a third WR, but he could get a pretty good payday somewhere else I highly doubt that. He's not even close to what he was before the injury. Not even sure if you want the guy as a 3rd. He's looking at trying to make it as a 4th or 5th WR which is going to be really hard not playing special teams.
