SteVo+ 3,702 Posted June 27, 2017 Pensacola Pounders (7-0) vs. Seattle Supersonics (6-0) November 13th - Pensacola, FL First Quarter The opening frame is full of momentum swings, with both teams playing very fast, leading to a high-scoring game. Pensacola makes their first five shots, leading 10-4. Seattle responds with a 9-3 run, tying the game at 13-13. A back-and-forth game ensues. Seattle has the largest lead of the game at 34-27 with about a minute to go, but Pensacola narrows the gap, and after one quarter, the Supersonics lead, 38-35. Stat of the Quarter: Both teams are shooting very well (SEA: 62%, PEN: 71%) but playing very sloppy (17 combined turnovers). Second Quarter Both teams appear to be slowing down on offense as well as stepping up on defense. The Pounders recapture the lead within the quarter's first minute, but it becomes clear neither team will maintain big leads in this basketball game. Midway through the quarter, Seattle regains momentum, clinging to a small lead for minutes, until the Pounders go on a 10-0 run, taking a 67-60 lead. Seattle calls timeout with 1:53 on the clock. They come out of the timeout hitting shots, narrowing the deficit to 73-68 at halftime. Halftime Observations: Both teams have a combined 43 assists already. Both teams are shooting a combined 63% from the field. Both offenses have focused on inside scoring, taking most of their shots in the paint. Only eleven shots have been taken from three-point range, and only three of those went in. All five starters for Pensacola have at least ten points. Both starting point guards already have double-doubles (Ed Monix: 12 pts, 11 ast; Chance Phillips: 11 pts, 12 ast). The game's leading scorer is Jack Package, with 22 pts. Third Quarter The Pounders come out firing, extending their lead to 83-72 with the Pensacola crowd roaring. Seattle struggles to make shots and commits multiple turnovers. The teams trade buckets with Pensacola maintaining a double-digit lead. After the Pounders take their biggest lead of the game, ahead 94-80, the Supersonics get the momentum shift they desperately need, going on a 7-0 run to narrow the gap. The Pounders fight back, and both teams trade buckets until the third quarter ends with the Pounders on top, 102-93. Stat of the Quarter: Mario Malgritti is the game's leading scorer, with 28 points. Fourth Quarter The first few minutes are more of the same: Seattle occasionally builds some momentum, but Pensacola always seems to respond with a clutch bucket that reinforces their lead. Midway through the quarter, the Pounders go on a 12-4 run, taking a 114-101 lead with 6:30 on the clock. It's crunch time for the Sonics. Interestingly, the Sonics are continuing to rely on their inside game, not taking any three-point attempts to cut into Pensacola's lead. We hit the four-minute mark, and it's 122-111, Pounders. It's not looking good for the Sonics. Did I speak too soon? Pensacola has gotten sloppy on the offensive end, and the Sonics have responded. Consecutive dunks by CJ Monk and Jack Package have narrowed the gap to 122-117, 3:05 to go. Zack Graham hits a big jumper for the Pounders, now up by seven. Chance Phillips responds from downtown! It's a four-point game with 2:20 to go. Turnover! CJ Monk with the steal...AND THE JAM! Pounders 124, Sonics 122, Pounders ball. Shane Barron inside, can't get it to go. Monk again driving to the hoop, and he's called for an offensive foul. Ball going the other way. Shane Barron with a great pass to Jackie Moon, who lays it in. 126-122, Pounders. Jack Package driving, takes the pull-up jumper...good! Two-point game, 1:24 to go. Ed Monix running the offense, inside to Moon again, and he converts another bucket. Timeout, Seattle. It's Pounders 128, Supersonics 124, 1:17 on the clock. Mario Malgritti misses a jumper. Pounders get the rebound. Gustav Silas takes it inside...stripped! A huge steal by Phillips, and the Sonics take over, 1:02 on the clock. Malgritti goes inside and gets it this time. 128-126. Monix waiting for things to set up, takes a three...no good! Malgritti gets the rebound with 45 seconds left... Phillips going coast to coast, puts up a floater, no good. Monk grabs the rebound, and he puts it in! Tie game! 128-128. Timeout, Pensacola, with 36.6 on the clock. Here's Monix, to Zack Graham, he puts up the three...rims out! Package on the rebound and here come the Sonics. They move the ball around, deliberately working the clock. Package gets up a close jumper, it's no good. Silas gets the rebound. Timeout, Pounders. We are still tied, with only 8.2 seconds left. Monix takes the ball, clock ticking, puts up a three...no good. Moon grabs the rebound, puts it up at the buzzer, GOOD! It's good! And the Pounders avoid a fourth-quarter collapse thanks to a buzzer beater! Final Score: Pensacola Pounders 130, Seattle Supersonics 128 ... seanbrock 1,684 Posted June 27, 2017 Outside shooting and floor spacing baby. Lol hard to do that with a C like Razor made. We're basically the warriors team build style with clones of Bird, T-Mac and Kawhi with a traditional PG and C.
