http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/11/29/cbs-orders-13-episodes-of-the-steven-spielberg-and-stephen-king-drama-under-the-dome

Back in August 2011 we reported that Showtime was partnering with Stephen King and Steven Spielberg to turn King’s novel Under the Dome into a series. In an interesting turn of events, the project has jumped over to CBS, who have now ordered 13 episodes of the Amblin Television produced drama. Neal Baer of Law and Order: SVU and ER is set to be the showrunner. Brian K. Vaughan (Y the Last Man, Lost) penned the pilot script and will serve as an executive producer.

A couple of things are unusual: First the network decided to forgo the usual pilot development process. Second, the series is scheduled to air in the summer when CBS has typically relied on reality programing. And finally, it’s a serialized show, which CBS has tended to veer away from.

“This is a great novel coming to the television screen with outstanding auspices and in-season production values to create a summer programming event,” said Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment. “We’re excited to transport audiences Under the Dome and into the extraordinary world that Stephen King has imagined.”

Under the Dome is the story of a small New England town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. The town’s inhabitants must deal with surviving the post-apocalyptic conditions while searching for answers to what this barrier is, where it came from and if and when it will go away.

Simon & Schuster will cross-promote the television series and book in advance of the show’s summer launch with the April 2013 re-release of trade paperback and electronic editions from its Pocket Books imprint.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/12/08/g4-is-officially-becoming-the-esquire-channel

It’s officially the end of an era.

G4 is set to become the Esquire channel, THR reports.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Attack of the Show and X-Play had been cancelled as G4 made a move to rebrand itself and partner with Esquire or another men’s magazine like GQ in order to tap into a “more upscale, sophisticated guy TV space.”

At the time, the network was considering renaming itself G4Men, among other options. It has now been announced that NBCUniversal plans to rebrand G4 as the Esquire channel.

The idea is to create programming that will appeal to the “untapped metrosexual viewership.” The cable network closed a deal with Esquire parent, Hearst Corporation, and intends to court an upscale viewership that they feel is currently underserved. According to THR, the rebranding efforts will “shift the former gaming network to a destination more in line with the modern male.”

New programming is already in development and will focus on the genres that other male-centric channels, such as Spike, have failed to provide for men. They include: cooking, travel, fashion and, in keeping with tradition, some gaming as well.

We can expect to see the rebrand in early 2013.

The Metrosexual Market is in more demand than the Gaming Market? Hmm. Interesting. They are out to make money though, so.. Eh

^That is retarded as fuck.

I've got four episodes left of Season 3 of Boardwalk Empire.

Richard Harrow is my favorite character, followed by Al Capone and, to a lesser extent, Chalky White.

My thoughts on the series, for those that have watched it.

Jimmy was my second favorite character until they decided to fucking kill him at the end of Season 2. I understand the move as a plot device, but I fucking hate it as a fan of the show. Season 3 has been pretty lame and if Richard dies at any point, I'm finished with the show.

Jimmy was one of the very few characters that I didn't hate and this season has been pretty lame without him. They need to have Richard and Al in every episode and some of the annoying piece of shit characters need to start dying.

Maybe the last third of the season will be the redemption of Season 3, but I'm not counting on it.

Do No Harm looks like a variation of Awake. Not sure how I feel about that.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/12/12/why-the-following-stands-out-on-network-television

As we head into the Holiday season and look forward to what’s to come in the midseason programming line-up, a small, somewhat surprising, trend emerges: network television is taking a dark turn. Perhaps inspired by the success of cable’s The Walking Dead and American Horror Story, network TV has decided to venture into serialized horror with The Following (FOX), Cult (CW) and Hannibal (NBC).

The pilot was sent out this summer and we attended a press event to screen the second episode of The Following last night. We can confirm that this psychological chiller continues to be far closer in tone to one of cable’s adult-themed offerings than 90% of what the networks have on deck. Series creator and executive producer Kevin Williamson is no stranger to horror. Williamson wrote Scream (and two of its sequels) and developed and executive produces The Vampire Diaries for The CW.

With The Following, however, Williamson takes a definitive step away from the teen slasher/teen-urban fantasy genres and into the arena of the adult thriller. The series stars Kevin Bacon as Ryan Hardy, a former FBI agent who is damaged and haunted by the last case he worked. Enter Joe Carroll (James Purefoy of Rome), a charismatic literature professor turned serial killer that Hardy brought to justice in 2004.

When Carroll escapes eight years later, Hardy is called in to consult. As the days following his escape progress, it becomes clear that while in jail Hardy has been able to amass a following of lost souls, would-be killers and sociopaths to do his long distance bidding.

Carroll, a failed suspense writer who is obsessed with the work of Edgar Allan Poe, explored Poe’s thesis that there is nothing so fascinating in the world as a beautiful woman dying by slaughtering 14 co-eds at the university where he taught.

He now intends to create a living work of art by “casting” former agent Hardy as the reluctant hero in a story of his own design. The “story” will include a widespread outbreak of serial killers all looking to Carroll for their marching orders.

With The Following, Williamson brings the tropes of literary suspense fiction to life and blends them with what, to me, is an even more frightening phenomena: cults.

The series has been crafted so that it can follow the over-arching storyline of Carroll’s game of cat-and-mouse with Hardy, and still deliver a monster-of-the-week (monster in this case being “cult-member”) procedural structure that networks seem to favor.

We’ll have a full pilot review closer to the premiere of The Following in January. For now, just know that in a sea of the familiar, tried and true, The Following makes an effort to offer its audience something unique and in moments, genuinely scary.

The Following will premiere Monday, January 21 at 9/8c on FOX.

Most of the shows I watch aren't showing right now, so I started watching Sons of Anarchy on Netflix. I really like it so far. I'm wrapping up the first season right now.

I just watched all of Being Human (American version). I really dig it, and the four primary actors are astoundingly good for a SyFy production.

I watch both the American and British versions of the show, and thet are both very good. The British version deals with a bit more serious issues that the American version only skimmed. For example, when Mithcell (the Vampire in teh British version) befriended the little neighbor boy and the kid stumbles upon the "vampire porn", the entire neighborhood tried to force them out calling them pedophiles and literally rioting outside of thier house. The American version hinted at the mother thinking he was a pedophile, but it go much deeper.

Damn. Really? I was actually seriously looking forward to another season of Merlin. I thought it was a hidden gem with just enough of a following to make it stick around.

I just watched a few episodes of Raising Hope on Netflix. It is honestly one of my favorite sitcoms, but will only appeal to a certain demographic. Though it is running its third season on FOX, so it must be hitting the right crowd. They cancel shit with a quickness.

Yup, the producers announced last month that this season (Season 5) would be the final season. They ended with a really really good 2 part finale on Christmas Eve.

I want to watch the British version, but the vampire's hair is just ridiculous and I know that's not much of a reason to not watch something, he looks like a friggin goon.

On another note, I'm not sure what I think of the name Aidan. The other names are all normal. Why did his have to be something so...cheesy?

It seems that "Aidan" is the popular name these days. I know of at least three females in my circle who don't know each other, that all named their sons Aidan. I liked the name at first, but now i am not so sure.

On Topic:

I have been watching Raising Hope on Netflix and have gotten both my roommates hooked on the show. We laugh constantly.
