Frank Zappa > Synyster Gates

I am on FSUViking's side in the argument of whether Gates belongs in this tournament; I think he does. But he's not better than Zappa.

David Gilmour > Stevie Ray Vaughan

I really dig SRV. Sometimes I get in moods where his music really hits the spot. But Gilmour is the man and I'll be voting for him for awhile.

Duane Allman > Carlos Santana

Santana deserves credit in creating essentially his own style and sticking to it, but Allman is one of the greatest to ever touch a guitar. How he's only a 7 seed is beyond me.

Jimmy Page > John Petrucci

Man, this kinda sucks. Petrucci is one of my favorite guitarists, so I was hoping he would make it further, but there's no argument to be made that he's better than Page, the greatest ever IMO.

Stevie baby. Paige, Allman, and Zappa were my other votes, but Stevie Ray is my personal favorite in the thread.

No argument for Petrucci being better than Page? Explain.

I dunno, man. Page is ridiculously sloppy and instead of addressing that, he referred to it as his "style." Petrucci is as smooth as it gets and has supreme control of his instrument. His solos are untouchable and rarely are they wank. Page is good, but he's no better than guitarists like Petrucci and SRV, who have absolute control of their instruments while ripping out amazing riff and solo after amazing riff and solo.

Oh, and Stairway to Heaven is not the greatest song ever :D

Page only got sloppy towards the end of his career when he was drugged up to his eye balls. You cannot use that "sloppy" excuse to tell me that Jimmy Page is inferior to John Petrucci.

And no, Stairway is not the greatest song ever, but this is:

If Petrucci shit on a cracker, BWare would eat it and proclaim it's the greatest fudge ever made.

Just because Petrucci can shred faster (though not by much) doesn't make him the better guitarist.

My vid post was a joke lol

And it's not about what he plays, it's about how he plays it.

Santana and Allman is a tough one, imo. The others are easy for me.

I shall leave this open until at least noon tomorrow (Eastern time) since we have a pretty good duel between Allman and Santana.
