Juan Castillo to remain Eagles' DC

Recommended Posts

Per Rotoworld.com:

Eagles retained Juan Castillo as defensive coordinator, and hired former Dolphins interim coach Todd Bowles as DBs coach.

The Eagles let their embattled first-year coordinator twist in the wind for nearly a month, but have given Castillo another chance after striking out on all potential upgrades. Bowles' hiring is excellent news for a high-priced Eagles secondary that was often mishandled by Castillo in 2011. If the Eagles' defense gets off to a sluggish 2012 start, it's possible Castillo could be replaced by Bowles, who interviewed for a number of head coaching positions this winter. They'll be fine. Give him Juan more year to show what he can do with an offseason.

More or less this. If we can upgrade the linebackers we'll have a pretty good defense. Safety is a wild card, but Nate Allen and Jaiqwuan Jarrett both have a lot of potential.

Eagles defense really started to come around in the last few weeks last year. They will easily be a much improved unit over all, and I don't think Philly fans should be worried. Hiring of Todd Bowles is great news for Aso, DRC and Co.

The Eagles FO handicapped Juan in a lot of ways last year and put him in a really really tough spot. He's a great guy and probably deserves a second chance but if that defense comes out and executes as poorly as it did for most of the year last year I think a move should be made quickly.

Yeah I joked about Juan a lot but the defense did pretty well the second half of the year, and as an offensive coaching switching to DC he was easily more affected by the lockout than any coach in the league. If they start next year how they finished this year they should be fine.

It's great news all around; he's a defensive coordinator/head coach candidate if Reid gets fired after next season.
