The second installment of Peter Jackson's epic trilogy follows parallel stories as Frodo and Sam near Mordor with the ring while Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli must prepare for a battle at Helm's Deep. I don't want to say too much because (spoiler alert) at least one of the other Lord of the Rings movies is on this list.

50) George Clooney's Good Night, and Good Luck

49) Greg Mottola's Superbad

48) Terry George's Hotel Rwanda

47) David O. Russell's The Fighter

46) Ron Howard's Frost/Nixon

45) Edward Zwick's Blood Diamond

44) Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins

43) Ben Stiller's Tropic Thunder

42) James Mangold's Walk the Line

41) Christopher Nolan's The Prestige

40) Peter Jackson's King Kong

39) Nicholas Stoller's Forgetting Sarah Marshall

38) Judd Apatow's Knocked Up

37) Peter Berg's Friday Night Lights

36) Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

Considering all the comedies, I sure as hell hope Zack and Miri Make a Porno is on here somewhere. That's easily my favorite Seth Rogen flick.

Top 1-3? I'm going to bet that There Will Be Blood is in there somewhere.

Won't say much but there aren't many comedies left on the list, at least not the laugh-out-load type that have been listed so far.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno was funny, I haven't seen many Seth Rogan movies though to comment on the other ones.

King Kong is like the 3rd movie on this list i haven't seen. Surprised as hell you already have one of the Lord of the Rings up....

Exact opposite for me, King Kong is only one of 3 movies on this list I HAVE seen. I thought it was Some Ol' Bullshit.

Is American Psycho on the list? Probably one of my favorite movies of all time.

Honestly, even in the realm of Apatow comedies, how do you have knocked up over superbad? Knocked up had a major problem of not being that funny.

Knocked Up was hilarious...

BUT I do agree I think Superbad should be ahead of Knocked Up. Both do deserve a place on this list.

I like it so far, I mean obviously I haven't seen every movie on here but it seems like a good list.

I too like Trident have not seen Batman Begins....at least not the whole thing.

Not having 500 Days of Summer on the list is a travesty. Burn After Reading, Away We Go, Inglorious Basterds, 50-50, Cloverfield, District 9, and a few others are what I'll be looking for.

50_50_Poster.jpg

This is the first of several films on this list adept at "genre blending," referring to their mix of comedy and drama. In this case, 50/50 is quite an achievement because it's hard to make a comedy about a man with terminal cancer. But thanks to pitch perfect performances from Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen and a script that offers lots of genuine emotion, the film pulls it off.

50) George Clooney's Good Night, and Good Luck

49) Greg Mottola's Superbad

48) Terry George's Hotel Rwanda

47) David O. Russell's The Fighter

39) Nicholas Stoller's Forgetting Sarah Marshall

38) Judd Apatow's Knocked Up

37) Peter Berg's Friday Night Lights

36) Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

35) Jonathan Levine's 50/50

Peter Jackson's trilogy came to an end in 2003 with The Return of the King, a fitting end to a fantastic series of films. It has a little bit of Return of the Jedi syndrome in that it is more of a conclusion than a story of its own, and it is rather long (you'll need bathroom breaks to make it through the director's cut), but the battle sequences are so epic and the character arcs come to such appropriate ends that we don't mind one bit. This is a satisfying end, sure to please film lovers and devout fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's novels.

50) George Clooney's Good Night, and Good Luck

49) Greg Mottola's Superbad

34) Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Zodiac2007Poster.jpg

The next two films on the list finally show some love for the horror genre. Recounting events that took place in San Francisco over the course of 32 years, the film's greatest strength is that it maintains its tension and energy throughout its two-and-a-half-hour running time. By telling the infamous story of the Zodiac killer from various perspective except that of the killer himself, Zodiac captures the horror of those who lived through the serial killer's reign. This is a hell of an achievement for director David Fincher, and it won't be his last appearance on this list.

50) George Clooney's Good Night, and Good Luck

49) Greg Mottola's Superbad

48) Terry George's Hotel Rwanda

47) David O. Russell's The Fighter

46) Ron Howard's Frost/Nixon

45) Edward Zwick's Blood Diamond

44) Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins

43) Ben Stiller's Tropic Thunder

42) James Mangold's Walk the Line

41) Christopher Nolan's The Prestige

40) Peter Jackson's King Kong

39) Nicholas Stoller's Forgetting Sarah Marshall

38) Judd Apatow's Knocked Up

37) Peter Berg's Friday Night Lights

36) Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

35) Jonathan Levine's 50/50

34) Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

33) David Fincher's Zodiac

Coming Up: Another suspense/horror film takes the next spot, followed by two fan favorites to round out the 30's.

It saddens me that Fellowship of the Ring is being listed as the best LotR movie.

Up to 9/18 so far. Not too bad I suppose.
