BLUE 1,026 Posted August 1, 2013 Posted by Josh Alper on August 1, 2013, 4:14 PM EDT The Cowboys drafted center Travis Frederick in the first round in April, but that might not be the only tweak they wind up making to their offensive line before the start of the regular season. Bryan Broaddus of the Cowboys website backs up a report from his colleague Jeff Sullivan that there’s a “real chance” the Cowboys sign veteran guard Brian Waters. Waters did not play at all last season after turning in a strong 2011 season with the Patriots. The six-time Pro Bowler was under contract in New England last season, but never reported to the team and the Patriots released him early in the offseason. Waters said that he wanted to play for a team closer to his home in Texas, which would seem to work in the Cowboys’ favor. Broaddus writes that health issues at guard have led the team to look into the possibility of bringing Waters aboard. Starters Nate Livings and Mackenzy Bernadeau have been hampered by injuries, Bernadeau is on the PUP list, and backup Kevin Kowalski is out for a few weeks with a bruised knee. If Waters does come aboard, he’d be a good bet to supplant one of those starters. And if he’s fit enough to bring his play back up to its previous level, the Cowboys offense would be better for it. Guest Phailadelphia Posted September 4, 2013 (edited) I thought we had another thread on this? Anyway, thanks! The Cowboys signed Waters to a 1-year deal worth up to $3 million. Base pay is $1.5 with escalators. And this is a pretty big deal for Dallas with all the injuries. Waters will be ready to play week 2 where he'll return home to KC. Cowboys hopeful Bernadeau (sp?) ready for Week 1. Free will play RT. Parnell will be swing tackle. Waters's roll should be RT with Free moving to RG starting in week 2 right? Wasn't that the point of experimenting with Free at RG? Edited September 4, 2013 by Phailadelphia

Vin+ 3,121 Posted November 2, 2013 Cowboys placed RG Brian Waters on injured reserve with a triceps injury, ending his season. Waters suffered the injury in Week 8 against the Lions. Playing on a one-year contract, it's possible that his career is over. Waters graded out as ProFootballFocus' No. 11 guard in terms of pass blocking. He'll be replaced by Mackenzy Bernadeau. seanbrock 1,684 Posted November 2, 2013 It's a shame Brian Waters is likely going to end his career on this note. If it is the end for him he's had a hell of a career and really played great this year after almost hanging it up last year.
BwareDWare94 723 Posted November 3, 2013 This opens things up for the rest of the NFC East, because we're going to struggle to run the ball now.
AL_Royalty 489 Posted November 3, 2013 Another KC HOFer bites the dust. Waters will most likely never play another down. Just doesn't seem right. Tony G and Brian Waters both felt like they had to jump ship to make a run at a championship. Irony is a cruel bitch. They'll both go to the Hall as Chiefs, but they could have possibly gone out as champions in KC. Those two guys on this KC team could only make an 8-0 team even better. Vin+ 3,121 Posted November 6, 2013 Coach Jason Garrett says the Cowboys would be very open to re-signing RG Brian Waters, who was placed on injured reserve with a triceps injury Saturday. Waters, 37 in February, played in seven games for the Cowboys and graded out as a top-11 pass protector in Pro Football Focus' guard ratings. The veteran also had a big impact in the locker room. "We have so many young guys," Garrett said. "...to have a veteran guy like that to kind of show them how to do it, it was really good. We’re certainly very open to having him back." Waters resides in Texas. The Cowboys are likely the only team he would consider playing for. Source: Dallas Morning News
