SteVo+ 3,702 Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) Original post, January 20th, 4:37pm: Since this place is buzzing with Super Bowl activity, I figure it'd be a good idea to promote an idea I want to kick off this offseason, if enough people are interested in participating. The concept is simple: TGP members can buy and sell shares of NFL teams. Each team has a per share price, depending on recent team success and overall stability of the franchise. For example, the Seattle Seahawks, making a Super Bowl appearance with a young team and the best defense in football, might go for something like $80 per share, while the Cleveland Browns, with a head coaching vacancy and no hope in sight, could sell around $15 per share. The trick is that members can only buy or sell shares during "evaluation periods," where the prices of each team's stock are changed based on recent events. These will take place throughout the calendar year. Every member starts with x amount of money and we see who can turn the biggest profit. Here's an example scenario. Let's say the Eagles are selling for $45/share. I buy 1,000 shares at a cost of $45,000. Then, they somehow sign Jairus Byrd and T.J. Ward in free agency (pipe dream, I know). The next evaluation period, after free agency, the Eagles shares are priced at $58/share, and my stocks are worth $58,000, a $13,000 profit. So what do you guys think? I'm down for any and all suggestions before getting things going. If there's enough interest I'd like to price the shares after the Super Bowl before free agency starts. SteVo+ 3,702 Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) Did you figure out how to set the baseline yet? Almost. It's not going to be overly complex. The main factors will be team performance, either on or off the field, during the most recent evaluation period, and how well the shares are selling, if at all. Also, I will, to the best of my ability, mold share prices to reflect TGP's general opinion. For example, if there's a big free agent signing that the national media thinks is great, but the majority of TGPers think is dumb, then that particular team's share price won't go up as much as it normally would. Cherry 1,302 Posted January 20, 2014 Absolutely great idea if you can perfect it. However, will prices rise if lots of members buy a certain team, or will it be based on that team's talent?

SteVo+ 3,702 Posted January 21, 2014 Absolutely great idea if you can perfect it. However, will prices rise if lots of members buy a certain team, or will it be based on that team's talent? It will be based primarily on team success, but prices will be altered slightly if people buy/sell them.

SteVo+ 3,702 Posted February 17, 2014 (edited) Just a heads up, I will announce stock prices for teams sometime this week, and our first evaluation period will be from approximately March 1st through March 10th, just before free agency begins. During this period, TGP members will be able to buy shares. Our next evaluation period will be just before the draft. In other words, you should buy shares for teams you think will "win" free agency. More info will be forthcoming over the next few days. Edited February 17, 2014 by SteVo
SteVo+ 3,702 Posted March 6, 2014 (edited) Attention, people: the market is open for trading! Below are the team prices, in spoiler tags. These prices were set based on 1) team performance in the 2013-14 season, and 2) future outlook of the franchise. Rules/Procedures Each member officially has $100,000 in his/her "account," free to spend on stocks. The market will close March 7th, tomorrow night, at 11:59pm EST. No more shares can be bought/sold after this time. I realize this is a tight window, but teams can start negotiating with free agents on the 8th. The market will re-open Saturday May 3rd, the weekend before the NFL Draft, with new prices. So, between then and now, share prices will only change based on free agent signings (and any other news that should occur). Members may buy/sell stocks publicly in this thread, or privately through PM. All share transactions will be published at the conclusion of the market's opening (some time this weekend). Any questions can be directed to this thread. Cherry 1,302 Posted March 7, 2014 (edited) I'll take 1,000 shares of the Bucs. 1,000 shares of the Browns. 1,000 shares of the Jags. And 250 shares of the Bengals. Let's get this started. 30,000 on Bucs 12,500 on Browns 22,500 on Jags 13,750 on Bengals. If my math is correct that leaves me with 21,250.
