BLUE 1,026 Posted September 22, 2014 (edited) Per Rotoworld.com: The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins' coaching staff is meeting Monday afternoon to "weigh" benching Ryan Tannehill for Week 4. Per reporter Armando Salguero, a change "is not certain," but a real possibility. Coach Joe Philbin was simultaneously blunt and evasive in Monday's presser, declining to say he was planning to bench Tannehill, but also refusing any opportunity to throw a lifeline his quarterback's way. Tannehill has regressed instead of progressing this season, but the Dolphins would be better off committing to the run instead of going with backup Matt Moore. Tannehill is struggling, but he's still easily the Dolphins' best bet to manage games. SteVo+ 3,702 Posted September 22, 2014 Tannehill hasn't reached the potential you'd expect from a top ten draft pick, and there are worse backups than Matt Moore, but Tannehill is the least of Miami's problems right now, IMO. Benching him is the wrong move.
BwareDWare94 723 Posted September 23, 2014 Perhaps the Dolphins should admit that they have 5 new offensive lineman, no real weapons outside of Mike Wallace, who disappears for periods of time, and no real running backs. I'm not a Tannehil fan--he's been marginal at best, most of the time, but to pull the rug out from underneath him when what's around him isn't up to par would be cowardly of this coaching staff.
BLUE 1,026 Posted September 23, 2014 Per Rotoworld.com: Speaking after Tuesday's practice, coach Joe Philbin again declined to endorse Ryan Tannehill as the Dolphins' starter. "We're going to play the best 46 guys," was Philbin's reply when asked who's starting. Philbin did allow that this week's practices will be taken into account. Although Tannehill has struggled through three games, turning to journeyman Matt Moore is unlikely to be the answer. Philbin needs to try to shed his pass-happy ways before throwing in the towel on Tannehill. Always unimpressive, Philbin's reign as Dolphins coach is threatening to go off the rails. Glanvilles Grits 142 Posted September 23, 2014 The problem began when they drafted him. He shouldn't have been drafted when he was drafted, I'm not sure how much more in depth you really need to go. He was a project quarterback that they reached for far too early in the first round. Apparently, he's still proving to the Dolphins that he's a project that hasn't got any plan of completion any time soon. He shows some great stuff, then some stuff that makes you put your palm on your forehead and sigh. On another note, let's be real here, does anyone see Joe Philbin in Miami come the off-season? I don't. You don't keep a guy in the position who hasn't really shown anything special for the team. Philbin has to go, that's where their problems start and stop right now IMO. Then when you tack on that the team just isn't that great, it's not a great situation. They're in a division where all the teams seem to have at least one problem that they need to get figured out. The Dolphins are the only team in that division right now that I can almost definitively look at and say that they haven't got a shot at that division. RazorStar 4,025 Posted September 23, 2014 They're really throwing the kid under Jerome Bettis here...
BradyFan81 404 Posted September 25, 2014 Not really sure what their end game is here. If they don't think he's the guy then draft someone else, but there's not much you can do about it right now. He'll give you a better chance to win than Matt Moore.
Dutch 874 Posted September 25, 2014 Dolphins franchise is inept. They could probably be a talented ball club but their coaching staff is too inadequate.
BLUE 1,026 Posted September 25, 2014 (edited) Per Rotoworld.com: Ryan Tannehill says despite coach Joe Philbin's public noncommittal, he's starting the Week 4 game against the Raiders. Philbin once again declined to commit to Tannehill on Thursday, but Tannehill says the coach has informed him that he'll make the start in England. Tannehill also said he asked Philbin why he was so noncommittal through the media, and Philbin said he "had his reasons." It's a bit odd to go trashing your quarterback publicly, then snuggling up with him behind closed doors, but Philbin has proven to be a weird bird. Tannehill simply gives the Dolphins a better chance to win than Matt Moore. The Fins need to pound Lamar Miller on the ground against a talentless, injury-ravaged Oakland defense. Sep 24 - 2:55 PM Source: Barry Jackson on Twitter The Miami Herald reports Dolphins coach Joe Philbin has apologized to the team for his handling of this week's quarterback situation. He should have. It was a disaster. Philbin bizarrely undermined Ryan Tannehill by refusing to commit to him publicly while still giving him all the first-team reps in practice. Teammates reportedly chuckled at the situation in the locker room, and Tannehill rightfully called it a distraction. Philbin has proven to be an exceptionally poor leader of men during his three years on the job in Miami. butta54 371 Posted September 25, 2014 I've liked Tannehill as a solid starter from the beginning. For a guy that played receiver not too long ago he has come a long way. If there isn't a better talent to put on the field (there isn't) then leave him as the starter. He isn't a all-pro QB and if you can live with that then build around him.

Tannehill isn't a great QB yet, obviously, but as we've seen in this league, it can be incredibly difficult to find QBs who don't suck. Miami has to stick with him and continue building at other positions. They didn't really expect that O-line to get fixed in a year, did they? Now, when Tannehill's contract runs out, if he demands big time money, then you tell him to GTFO.
Dutch 874 Posted September 25, 2014 The Dolphins obviously don't understand the concept of developing and building. Tannehill is the best chance that they have and that team has issues much more deeper than Tannehill. Throwing your young QB under the bus and understanding the situation around him (which isn't that great) is a cowardly move.

I think this is an indictment of Joe Philbin's failed leadership more than anything. Wouldn't be surprised to see him canned if Miami misses the playoffs again.

Piggly Wiggly 960 Posted September 27, 2014 Tannehill fucking sucks. Philbin fucking sucks. The whole team fucking sucks. Completely blew their load after their week 1 Super Bowl win over the Pats.
Glanvilles Grits 142 Posted September 28, 2014 I think it was on Mike and Mike, Golic said that he thought Philbin was basically trying to light a fire under Tannehills ass. Very, very poor attempt at it! LOL
Vin+ 3,121 Posted September 28, 2014 The Miami Herald reports the rift between Ryan Tannehill and coach Joe Philbin is in jeopardy of growing wider. "The damage is done," writes top beat reporter Armando Salguero. Philbin, of course, refused to endorse Tannehill as his starting quarterback through the media this past week, instead opting to tell Tannehill he'd be starting behind closed doors while publicly insinuating Tannehill's job was in jeopardy. That apparently irked Tannehill to the point where's become "disenchanted with Philbin in a similar fashion to how be soured on [ex-OC] Mike Sherman." Philbin's seat is white hot. His reputation around the league has taken yet another hit. Source: Miami Herald
