oochymp 2,393 Posted April 12, 2015 (edited) I really don't see how stating the obvious is a burn, I'd actually thought about making some reference to it not being the last, but figured it was unnecessary and would detract from the thread praising Polamalu. But if we're gonna focus on Johnson, it's worth noting that at the time Johnson was in his third season, had just run for 2000 the year before and 142 the week before that game. So it actually was something noteworthy at the time that Johnson was held to on 34 yards in that game, and I remember Polamalu having a lot to do with that. Sarge+ 3,436 Posted April 12, 2015 It goes back to the time when he was still somewhat productive and all the Titans fans on here defended him like it was their job, especially MikeyDay, who threatened to kill Thanatos for saying CJ sucked or whatever. Every week there would be a new thread about Chris Johnson on TGP.
BwareDWare94 723 Posted April 13, 2015 This was overdue. I feel bad because you'd think he had a few more years in him but some guys just take a nosedive in their early thirties.

Zack_of_Steel+ 3,014 Posted May 15, 2015 (edited) Friday Insider: Polamalu unhappy with brass May 15, 2015 BY DEJAN KOVACEVIC Roundup of a lot of randomness from a lot of time around our teams … • Within the context of his immense stature, Troy Polamalu retired as quietly as possible. There was no press conference at the Steelers’ headquarters. There were no teary hugs or handshakes. He simply placed two phone calls, one to Dan Rooney and another to veteran reporter Jim Wexell, who landed the exclusive for his site Steel City Insider. That was it. He called no one else. One of the greatest athletes of his generation shut it down as quickly and effortlessly as if he vaulted over the Tennessee line, wrapped up the tackle and walked away. The in-depth interview by Wexell answered most every question about why Polamalu retired when he did, but one that’s remained unanswered is why he retired the way he did. The simple answer, based on numerous conversations I’ve had on this topic, is this: He was — and remains — very much disenchanted with the Steelers’ current front office, and that includes pretty much everyone under Rooney, and I emphasize under. He loves Dan in every way, speaks of him as a son would of a father. But the same most definitely cannot be said of Art Rooney II, Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin, with whom his falling out is described by sources close to Polamalu as being pretty much beyond repair. In fact, those sources say, the only higher-ups in the Steelers’ organization for whom Polamalu retained a strong respect all through the 2014 season were the elder Rooney and, of course, Dick LeBeau. You’re going to ask why, and I’m going to answer that I don’t know and don’t care to speculate. If anyone will or should ever speak to that, it’s Polamalu himself, and the Wexell interview remains the only one he’s granted. On the surface, this doesn’t matter much. Polamalu isn’t in the fold anymore, so it won’t affect the 2015 Steelers in any way. It’s not as if it could be some distraction. But when it comes to the Steelers and iconic players, it’s always family business, for better or worse. When Jack Lambert broke from the fold long ago, most folks dismissed it as Jack being Jack. But it still stings every time he doesn’t show for an event. When Terry Bradshaw invariably makes a spectacle of himself, as he did again most unfortunately last summer by failing to pay respects at Chuck Noll’s funeral even though he was in town to perform at a local casino, it still stings. It stings in the way any family fight does. From what I’ve heard, it will take some major mending of fences to bring Polamalu back into the fold. And man, here’s hoping that happens. It’s one thing for Polamalu to retire a Steeler. It’s quite another to make sure that matters. http://dkonpittsburghsports.com/2015/05/15/friday-insider-polamalu-unhappy-with-brass/ Tomlin apologists can fuck off. JetsFan4Life 542 Posted May 16, 2015 Ricky proves yet again that reading is hard for him. In the article it states why he retired the way he did which is trying to get a reaction out of me, the reader, to believe he retired the way he did because of his disenchantment with people in the organization. If he has problems with them he's not a part of the organization, he can go out and be a big man and talk about it.

Nothing in the article pertains to his decision to retire, which was the subject of your original post. Polamalu has never been an outspoken person, not sure why anyone would expect him to change after retirement. From a guy in the Pittsburgh area: One of the local guys on radio today was talking about this DK article, said it was well known in media circles Troy hasn't been happy with the direction the team is taking. Relayed this Troy quote "..when I got here this locker room was full of men, now it is full of entitled children..." blotsfan 2,112 Posted May 17, 2015 I mean, Polamalu is one of the best players in Steelers history, so him not even having a retirement press conference is a little odd.
seanbrock 1,684 Posted May 17, 2015 Polamalu was good enough to start for most of the Teams in the NFL still imo. Not what he once was, but he could still play.
DBR96A 87 Posted May 18, 2015 Last season, the Steelers defense was better when Troy Polamalu wasn't on the field; that's how much his performance had declined. Maybe I just look to the future more easily than most football fans, but despite my gratitude for everything he's done for the Steelers, I still believe it's time to move on. FartWaffles 1,857 Posted May 19, 2015 This. He would definitely improve our back.field. Even if that were true, (I personally don't subscribe to that thought) why would he go play for another franchise, when he can retire a full career as nothing but a Steeler? That's prestigious in it's own right to be forever linked as an all-time great defender to only don the black and gold. (Greene, Blount, Ham, etc. etc.) He really has nothing left to prove anyways... 2x Super Bowl Champ 5x All-Pro 8x Pro Bowler 2010 Defensive Player of the Year And should be a first ballot Hall of Famer. Fuck that, I'ma go play for the Iggles.

I'm just reinforcing the idea that he's not washed up to the degree that he's irrelevant like some.people think and could still make a difference in the NFL. Troy wouldn't look right in another uniform. Retiring a Steeler was the best move. Edited May 19, 2015 by Dutch

Most greats retire way too late, because they don't know what they're going to do after football. Troy did it just right IMO.
Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted May 19, 2015 Of course Troy didn't want to play for anyone else... but I think it's obvious he thought he could still play. The Steelers, the only team he wanted to play for, didn't think he could anymore. Seems like that is where the disconnect was / is with the two. Sucks, but I've been there, and then seen the guy play in a rivals jersey... lol. Time heals all wounds.
