RazorStar 4,025 Posted October 6, 2015 Cribbing the explanation from last year's thread. Any QB on the list either qualifies for passer rating (14 attempts a week), or has at least 100 passing attempts on the season. QB's are measured on 4 parameters.1. Modified Completion Percentage. This is Completion Percentage with the addition of sacks as incomplete passes, and runs as completed passes. Factoring sacks and rushing attempts into the equation tanks most efficiency stats, but it generally brings up completion percentage.2. Modified TD/ATT Percentage. Same as before, Rushing and Passing TD's compared to passes thrown, sacks and rushing attempts. Rewards guys who don't get TD credit for their one yard sneaks, also Cam Newton, probably.3. Modified Turnover/Attempt Percentage. Now including fumbles. All of them, even the ones that the offense recovers. Why? My logic on this is that recovering a fumble is basically a coin flip. If you lose the ball you're only getting lucky so often. Fumbles are equivalent to half a turnover, because fumbles are recovered by the fumbling team about 50% of the time.4. Modified Yards per Attempt. Rushing Yards + Passing Yards - Sack Yards divided by rushing attempts, passing attempts and sacks. This stat tanks for nearly everyone, sack yards are a big hit to YPA. I understand not all offensive lines are built the same, but when you compare Chad Henne to Drew Stanton, there's enough of a discrepancy between good and bad QB's with roughly equivalent lines. 6.0 YPA is terrible using raw passer numbers, but with this modification it becomes roughly the average. So keep that in mind. Here's the Googledoc, now with a second sheet showing how each QB has moved around the rankings each and every week. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1N63OnvwePhUyr3KOzUq2foOjfLtgFtcfB7FewvbYefw/edit?usp=sharing Week 4 QB Rankings: 1. Thanatos 2,847 Posted October 6, 2015 Andrew Luck is only better than Kaep, Mallet and Tanny. Jeezus. The only thing I wish you had access to was drops and "should have been" interceptions.
Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted October 6, 2015 I like how distinctive the tiers are. I don't like how Andy Dalton is in the top one.
RazorStar 4,025 Posted October 7, 2015 Dalton has only played 1 PM games so far this season. We'll see how his stats look after the Seattle game this week, and his first primetime game in week 9 against the... Browns. Dalton might be near the top for a while. RazorStar 4,025 Posted October 13, 2015 Another week down, and we have a new points leader this week. Dalton has edged out Rodgers for the top spot, the Rams prove that they can make any QB look mediocre, or they just break him. Josh McCown finds his way into the top ten after dominating the Ravens, and Eli is making his case to get into the top tier. Anyway, here are the numbers, Dalton and Rodgers are at a dead heat in turnovers and touchdowns per attempt, that's pretty neat. Week 5 QB Rankings:1. Andy Dalton 132. Tom Brady 143. Aaron Rodgers 164. Ben Roethlisberger 305. Carson Palmer 366. Eli Manning 417. Philip Rivers 448. Josh McCown 449. Tyrod Taylor 4510. Tony Romo 5511. Cam Newton 5712. Brian Hoyer 6113. RazorStar 4,025 Posted October 20, 2015 Another week of football is in the books, and we currently have five undefeated teams. As you would expect, three of those undefeated QBs are at the top of this ranking. One of them is sitting right in the middle of the pack at 16, and one of them... is dead last? How does that even work? Well I can extol the virtues of the Broncos' defense, but I'd rather talk QBs. The top four has been fairly consistent this season, but Roethlisberger is gonna fall out of qualifying for this list unless he plays next week. That leads to even further potential shake up, as everything below Roethlisberger has been a clusterfuck this season. Brian Hoyer has gone from almost last all the way to 7th this week. Tyrod Taylor took the week off and he's up to 5th. This season has not been the exquisite QB concerto that we are used to. This is the end of an era, I hope you enjoyed it. Week 6 QB Rankings 1. Andy Dalton 112. Tom Brady 143. Aaron Rodgers 164. Ben Roeth 275. Tyrod Taylor 36 (+4)6. Philip Rivers 38 (+1)7. Brian Hoyer 38 (+5)8. Carson Palmer 40 (-3)9. Russell Wilson 51 (+4)10. RazorStar 4,025 Posted October 20, 2015 Newton went... down? I'm confused. Lmao Peyton. It's a number of things. Romo and Hasslebeck leaving the list shook the numbers up a fair deal, and Brees, Hoyers and Fitzpatrick just sort of rocketed ahead of Newton. Newton also had a low YPA against the Seahawks, and he's like just barely below six other QB's in that category. It probably made the difference.
RazorStar 4,025 Posted October 27, 2015 Today's list could easily be called garbage time heroes. Hoyer and Luck show average numbers this week because they dumped their teams into massive holes to start the game. The top of the list has stayed solid throughout, Dalton and Rodgers took a break today, so Brady faced a toughed defense and slid down a spot. Every Qb on this list now has 100+ attempts, so Weeden and Roethlisberger are officially off the list. That means we have no qualifying Cowboys or Steelers, so only 31 names are on this list (Two Texans, one for the other 29 teams) 1. Andy Dalton 92. Aaron Rodgers 10 (+1)3. Tom Brady 15 (-1)4. Carson Palmer 27 (+4)5. Derek Carr 28 (+6)6. Tyrod Taylor 33 (-1)7. Philip Rivers 37 (-1)8. Russell Wilson 47 (+1)9. Drew Brees 52 (+1)10. Brian Hoyer 54 (-3)11. Eli Manning 54 (+1)12. RazorStar 4,025 Posted November 3, 2015 This week, the top three guys fall back down to earth a little, Dalton and Rodgers had some bad games, and Tom Brady... well he still did pretty well. With Brees and Eli having a gunslinger match on sunday, a new top tier seems to have formed. Roethlisberger's rough day puts him outside the top ten again, but I expect he'll be back there shortly. Meanwhile the battle for worst QB is really heating up after Andrew Luck's stinker this week. Not even ridiculous almost comebacks are going to save him from the trash heap. Week 8 QB Rankings 1. Tom Brady 16 (+2)2. Andy Dalton 18 (-1)3. Aaron Rodgers 22 (-1)4. Derek Carr 27 (+1)5. Carson Palmer 29 (-1)6. Tyrod Taylor 337. Drew Brees 34 (+2)8. Philip Rivers 36 (-1)9. Eli Manning 40 (+2)10. RazorStar 4,025 Posted November 10, 2015 (edited) The Top Three has finally seen a major shakeup. After Aaron Rodgers has been exposed as a fraud (ha), by great defenses, he has dropped out of the top 5 entirely, instead ceding his spot to a mix of young and old faces. Ties are the name of the game this week, as nearly every QB in the top 14 has got his spot based on YPA tiebreaker with another guy. Ryan Mallett is keeping the worst QB spot nice and cozy this season, but Cassel will qualify for attempts next week and Peyton Manning is going to try his very hardest to complete at least one pass to break Favre's yardage record. Week 10 QB Rankings 1. Andy Dalton 12 (+1)2. Tom Brady 12 (-1)3. Carson Palmer 28 (+2)4. Tyrod Taylor 28 (+2)5. Drew Brees 28 (+2)6. Derek Carr 30 (-2)7. Aaron Rodgers 30 (-4)8. Philip Rivers 369. RazorStar 4,025 Posted November 17, 2015 (edited) The season is in full swing now. We've got two new additions to the QB rankings, and they're about where you expect them to be. Peyton Manning had the worst game of his career and was benched, Nick Foles, Ryan Fitzpatrick and a few others weren't able to match his incompetence, but still failed to make an impact for their teams. On the positive side, Cam Newton's Stats are finally matching his play, and Jay Cutler has snuck his way onto the top ten. The NFL is strange, and if I knew the only way to make Jay Cutler and John Fox good was to lambaste their team every week on the radio show, I would have done so sooner. Week 11 QB Rankings 1. Tom Brady 14 (+1)2. Andy Dalton 15 (-1) 3. Drew Brees 26 (+2)4. Derek Carr 28 (+2)5. Tyrod Taylor 30 (-1)6. Philip Rivers 32 (+2)7. Aaron Rodgers 388. Carson Palmer 39 (-5)9. Jay Cutler 40 (+5)10. RazorStar 4,025 Posted November 24, 2015 (edited) With another week, the number of qualifying QB's increase. A second Cowboy has made it onto the list, and he's quite clearly showing Cassel how it is done. Matt Hasslebeck has settled right in the middle of the list as well, joining the malaise of mediocrity between Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston. At the bottom, nothing has changed, all of the bottom seven are either injured, benched or cut. The top five remains unchanged but Aaron Rodgers' fall has been noted, he's down to tenth place now. One more weak performance and he'll find himself outside the top ten in efficiency for the first time in what feels like years. Week 12 QB Rankings 1. Tom Brady 192. Andy Dalton 23 3. Drew Brees 304. Derek Carr 355. Tyrod Taylor 396. Eli Manning 43 (+4)7. Philip Rivers 44 (-1)8. Carson Palmer 489. Russell Wilson 50 (+5)10. Aaron Rodgers 50 (-3)11. Ben Roeth 5212. Tony Romo 52 (NR)13. RazorStar 4,025 Posted December 1, 2015 There were some huge waves made last week. While we've had no new additions this week, Osweiler, Sanchez and Gabbert are all itching to sneak into the list next week. Where they might place is a mystery, but one thing is certain, they'll still be better than Peyton Manning and Nick Foles. Russell Wilson has jumped all the way into the top five after dismantling the Steelers secondary, and joining him as big gainers are Kirk Cousins and Matt Stafford after obliterating their NFC East opponents. On the downward trend, Romo threw some poor INT's and got broken for the rest of the season. Eli threw three interceptions that could have easily been six against the Skins, and Marcus Mariota's anemic performance against the Raiders has him below Jameis Winston for the first time this season. Dalton has overtaken Brady for now, but this battle at the top is still really close.Week 13 QB Rankings1. Andy Dalton 18 (+1)2. Tom Brady 20 (-1)3. Russell Wilson 33 (+6)4. Derek Carr 335.
