FartWaffles 1,857 Posted January 14, 2016 http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000622612/article/eagles-hiring-chiefs-oc-doug-pederson-as-head-coach Eagles hiring Chiefs OC Doug Pederson as head coach The Philadelphia Eagles have found Chip Kelly's replacement on a former coach's coaching staff. The Eagles are hiring Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson to be their new head coach as soon as Kansas City's season is over, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday, per a source informed of the situation. Pederson coached under former Eagles coach Andy Reid in Kansas City for three seasons and previously coached on his staff in Philadelphia for four seasons. Pederson was among a plethora of Eagles head coaching candidates which included interim coach Pat Shurmur, Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther and former Giants coach Tom Coughlin, who withdrew his name from consideration on Thursday. SteVo+ 3,702 Posted January 14, 2016 I'm ok with this. I find it funny that we're essentially hiring Andy Reid's protege. I'll wait until Pederson's press conference to see what he's like, but in the meantime, the priority for the Eagles has to be finding a defensive coordinator who doesn't suck. Are we switching back to the 4-3? Also, a note on that article: the Eagles never interviewed Austin or Guenther. At this point, it was down to Pederson, Pat Shurmur, and Duce Staley. butta54 371 Posted January 15, 2016 Duce Staley would have been cool to see as a HC
Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted January 15, 2016 I think this is one of the most hilarious things ever. Andy Reid is there for an eternity. They get tired of him and his inability to pull the team back... So they fire him and go with the edgy enigma type in Chip Kelly -- who is, personality wise, about the exact opposite of Reid. Now... You are without a coach and who do you look to? Maybe Andy Reid's single most developed coaching prospect and a guy who will likely emulate Reid in many ways. Andy and Scott have known each other for over 20 years dating back to Andy being on Mike Holmgren's staff and Doug as Favre's backup. Then of course Andy gets Pederson into the NFL coaching ranks and has been grooming him for the last 7 years or so in that capacity. And it doesn't even end there.... The Eagles, IMO, are kind of "settling" with Pederson it sounds like. They got rid of Chip Kelly because they wanted a head start on candidates and they got that head start.... to no avail. They wanted Adam Gase, who interviewed and went elsewhere. They pursued Ben McAdoo who ended up staying in New York. They brought in Tom Coughlin, who dropped out of the running on his own accord. And look is left to pick up the scraps.... Andy Reid's Lieutenant. The Eagles have come full circle.
SteVo+ 3,702 Posted January 15, 2016 I talked about the idea of the Eagles "settling" in the shoutbox earlier, before they hired Pederson. You're absolutely right, F4E. Our top three targets were Gase, McAdoo, and Coughlin. Strikeout swinging. Considering the Eagles fired Chip Kelly early to get a head start on the process, I think it speaks volumes that they had to settle for either Pederson, Pat Shurmur, or Duce Staley. None of those three interviewed with another team.
Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted January 15, 2016 Ya, and by no means am I trying to rain on Doug Pederson's parade. I wish him the best of luck. Always liked him as a person, and he has some Packer ties -- and I always like rooting for those guys. But I just can't help but think the Eagles brass and maybe some fans, have to feel a little underwhelmed by this hire.Of course the press conference will be really " RAH RAH , WE GOT OUR GUY "... But deep down doesn't everyone know that that isn't completely true?Knowing what the Eagles do now, I wonder if they would have just kept Andy Reid. I mean... Hiring Doug Pederson is pretty much the same exact thing, right? lol
ATL_Predator+ 1,196 Posted January 15, 2016 A downgrade from Chip Kelly that is still an off-hand of Andy Reid in Philly after they fired Kelly 'early' to get a head start on the HC search? Priceless. Never change eagles.
Dutch 874 Posted January 15, 2016 (edited) I feel rather indifferent about this hire. There are also rumors that the Eagles are interested in hiring Brad Childress as the OC. F4E is right. It seems that we are coming back full circle. Granted, I'm in no way saying this is a bad hire or that Pederson will fail. That will remain to be seen. It's just not an exciting or inspiring hire. That may be for the best though. The Eagles have had our fair share of over hype and high expectations over the last several years. I don't mind an under the radar hire at this point in time in our organization. As far as our DC, I hear that the Eagles are looking at Mike Pettine and Jim Schwartz as our DC. I hope we get Mike Pettine. I want no more parts of the wide-9. This probably means we go back to the 4-3 which I think our personnel fits better as anyway; Attack the QB! Vinny Curry and Brandon Graham as our DE's, Fletcher Cox and Bennie Logan as our DT's, Jordan Hicks MLB, Mychal Kendricks LOLB and Barwin as ROLB. Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted January 18, 2016 Pederson's top choices for his staff include former Chargers OC Frank Reich as OC and .... he wants to somehow peel Spags away from the Giants to be DC in Philly.
Vin+ 3,121 Posted February 4, 2016 Eagles coach Doug Pederson said the team could "possibly" add a "young quarterback." Pederson was asked about the roster in an interview with CSN Philly. "I think the pieces are there." Pederson said. "And then you start just kinda filling in. A hole here, a hole there, get some depth here, you know, get you a young quarterback possibly, and then you just start developing your talent and you see what happens after that." Sam Bradford is only 28, but he would not be considered a "young" quarterback. ESPN's Phil Sheridan reported the Eagles could let Bradford walk if they believe they can get a "legit quarterback" in the draft, and it sounds like Pederson is open to that option. Bradford remains likely to stay in Philly, but it is not set in stone. Source: The Philly Voice
Vin+ 3,121 Posted February 7, 2016 ESPN's Adam Schefter reports new Eagles coach Doug Pederson is "interested" in bringing Nick Foles back to Philadelphia. The quarterback wheels are spinning in Philly. Schefter reported Sunday the Eagles are no longer planning to franchise tag Sam Bradford, and now it looks like Pederson is gearing up for a reunion with Foles. Pederson was the Eagles' quarterbacks coach when the team drafted Foles in 2012. Foles is coming off a dreadful year in St. Louis, but the $7.75 million he'll make in 2016 is far less than what Bradford will command in free agency. It's unclear what the Rams would be looking for in a trade for Foles. The Rams benched Foles down the stretch last year, deciding Case Keenum was a better option. Vin+ 3,121 Posted February 8, 2016 The Philadelphia Daily News' Les Bowen reports the Eagles are not interested in reacquiring Rams QB Nick Foles. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday new coach Doug Pederson was interested in the Eagles former quarterback, but a source told Bowen, "There is no chance the team will reacquire Foles." If accurate, it is the right decision by Philadelphia. Foles has not shown anything the last two seasons to suggest he is markedly better than current No. 2 Mark Sanchez, and trading even a late-round pick to acquire what looks like a bad contract is not a sound way to build a football team. The Rams are likely stuck with Foles until they can get out of his contract next offseason. Source: The Philadelphia Daily News
BLUE 1,026 Posted February 18, 2016 (edited) Per Rotoworld.com: NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports new Eagles coach Doug Pederson believes impending free agent QB Chase Daniel is "more than a backup." The links between Daniel and the Eagles have been flying since Pederson left Kansas City. A career backup who has split six seasons between the Saints and Chiefs, Daniel has played well both in the preseason and in spot starts under Andy Reid. With Pederson certain to run a similar system in Philadelphia, bringing in Daniel as a cheaper alternative to Sam Bradford makes a lot of sense. It would not be surprising if Daniel opens 2016 as the starter in Philadelphia. Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted February 18, 2016 I have thought he has looked pretty good as well. There are certainly worse options out there, at least in my opinion.
