oochymp 2,393 Posted May 31, 2016 I was going to put a sarcastic post listing all Titans players in the awards prediction thread, but then I realized that could actually generate a decent discussion. We each know our teams pretty well, so this could be a good opportunity to give the rest of the forum a preview of what your team has to offer this season. I'm going to assume a best-case scenario so take all of these comments with a grain of salt, I will be very surprised if any Titans are even in the conversation for these awards. I think that's enough pre-amble, so here's my all-Titans ballot for end-of-season awards: MVP: Marcus Mariota - yeah, the QB is the easy answer, but if this team goes anywhere (which it isn't this year) it'll be based on Mariota making huge strides in his second year OPOTY: DeMarco Murray - no matter how big of strides he makes this year, I don't see Mariota putting up the kind of numbers necessary for a QB to win this award, but Mularky says he wants this to be a running team and Murray is going to get most of the carries so I could see him having a huge season DPOTY: Jurrell Casey - I'm just going to go with our best defensive player OROTY: Derrick Henry - I know, I picked a RB as OPOTY, but we all know that's not actually going to happen, but Henry might have an outside shot at winning this one, I'll be very surprised if he beats out Zeke for it, but the guy's a monster of a running back and if he can steal enough carries from Murray he should finish out with some decent numbers DROTY: Kevin Byard - you thought you were going to see Dodd there, didn't you? Dodd should be good, but he'll be the third OLB behind Orakpo and Morgan, add in that he's gotta adjust to a new system and I don't see him exploding on the scene, but Byard looked really good in rookie camp and has a shot to start at safety from day 1
seanbrock 1,684 Posted May 31, 2016 MVP: Carson Wentz, this will never happen. He won't get the playing time but in order for us to have a team that looks like a contender it would take Wentz out playing Bradford and Daniels handedly and then playing at a pro bowl level all year. OPoTY: Jordan Matthews, him and Wentz would have to have a great connection and he'd have to put up huge numbers again for the Eagles to be big time, win the division and have a top 3 seed. Highly unlikely but it's probably the only shot we have a this award. DPoTY: Fletcher Cox, this one actually has a slight outside shot at happening. Cox is a DT so it would be tough but if he could pull off the year Atkins did when he had like 17 sacks. I think the fact he had 9.5 last year playing in the 2 gap that that might actually be possible. ORoTY: Carson Wentz, Smallwood is not going to get a lot of playing time so once again this entire hypothetical situation hinges on Carson Wentz basically being the next big thing NOW. Instead of a year or two down the road. DRoTY: Jalen Mills, looks like this guy is going to get playing time at a lot of different pots in the secondary. From what I understand he's having a strong off season and coaches have been high on him. Still a huge long shot though. He was a late round pick and unless there's injuries he's not going to get starters playing time.
oochymp 2,393 Posted May 31, 2016 oh, and I forgot Comeback Player of the Year For the Titans, that one comes down to Kendall Wright or Derrick Morgan who both missed significant time with injuries last year, I'm gonna go with Wright because he's in a contract year, but I could see Morgan having a strong year in his second season in LeBeau's system
Cherry 1,302 Posted May 31, 2016 (edited) MVP: Todd Gurley. I considered Aaron Donald here because he is a more dominant player, but Todd could very well run for 1500-1800 yards this upcoming year. That kind of production would put him in the running for MVP. OPOTY: Todd Gurley. DPOTY: Aaron Donald. Absolutely amazing player who you could argue is playing better than Watt right now. Robert Quinn is right there as well. OROTY: Jared Goff. The easy pick. Starting QB day one. DROTY: Josh Forrest. The only defensive player drafted by the Rams this year. I'd consider Iowa's Jordan Lomax who was taken as UDFA due to how weak the position is, but Josh Forrest was a beast on tape even if he doesn't have ridiculous measurables. CPOTY: Really nobody. Thanatos 2,847 Posted May 31, 2016 MVP: Cam Newton OPOTY: Cam Newton DPOTY: Luke Kuechly CPOTY: Kelvin Benjamin Those are all legit shots. Now it gets a bit silly. OROTY: Keyarris Garrett. (Has an undrafted player ever won RotY?) I think this kid has a chance to be a decent WR in the long term. DROTY: If an injury happens early to Short or Star, Vernon Butler is in the running. If not, our best shot is probably Bradberry playing out of his mind in year 1.
.AirMcNair. 1,232 Posted May 31, 2016 oh, and I forgot Comeback Player of the Year For the Titans, that one comes down to Kendall Wright or Derrick Morgan who both missed significant time with injuries last year, I'm gonna go with Wright because he's in a contract year, but I could see Morgan having a strong year in his second season in LeBeau's system Morgan was tearing it up before hurting his shoulder. Think he had something like 4.5 sacks in his first 4 games before he first injured the shoulder, which nagged on him before it finally took him out for the season. LeBeau's zone blitz D fits him perfectly it seems.
CampinWithaMissingPerson 2,025 Posted May 31, 2016 (edited) MVP: Blake Bortles. 's QB OPOTY: Blake again. Jags have lots of weapons (I expect a big year from Julius Thomas) so only constant could be Bortles so he'll get all the love. DPOTY: The only possible "elite" defenders the Jags have are rookies or coming off major injuries so I'm gonna say none. If the Jags defense ends up being good I do think Tashaun Gipson is gonna benefit with lots of turnovers, not enough to be DPOTY though. OROTY: Yeah, no. DROTY: Myles Jack. Obviously prob between him and Jalen but I figure teams will let Ramsey's physical presence at the LOS keep teams from throwing at him as much for number possibilities and Myles will be in the middle of everything with opportunities to get his hands on the ball. CPOTY: Dante Fowler Jr. I wanted to say Julius Thomas here but I don't know if people will count him as a "comeback" story because he missed 5 games but I think he puts up good numbers this year with Blake. Fowler is an easy answer to say. If he's good he'll be an easy target for the award from folks given he blew his knee out in his first practice. oochymp 2,393 Posted May 31, 2016 Would Fowler be eligible since he's never played in the NFL? hard to call it a 'comeback' at that point, but maybe I'm being too technical Morgan was tearing it up before hurting his shoulder. Think he had something like 4.5 sacks in his first 4 games before he first injured the shoulder, which nagged on him before it finally took him out for the season. LeBeau's zone blitz D fits him perfectly it seems. doesn't hurt playing across from Orakpo either
Milla4Prez63 678 Posted May 31, 2016 MVP: Jameis WinstonOPOTY: Doug Martin (only to not use the same player though)DPOTY: Gerald McCoyOROTY: Dan VitaleDROTY: Vernon Hargreaves
RazorStar 4,025 Posted May 31, 2016 MVP: Von Miller OPOTY: Demaryius Thomas or Emmanuel Sanders DPOTY: Von Miller OROTY: Paxton Lynch (Better than none percent) DROTY: Adam Gotsis (Probably none percent) Coach: Obvious Comeback Player: Demaryius Thomas, but I don't know if coming back from the worst QB play of last year counts. CampinWithaMissingPerson 2,025 Posted May 31, 2016 Would Fowler be eligible since he's never played in the NFL? hard to call it a 'comeback' at that point, but maybe I'm being too technical Not positive, it's a weird award because it's such a vague description. But I do know players who have good years after being out the year before with a bad injury usually get lots of votes for it so I'd think he counts. If he doesn't count as a rookie even though hasn't played yet, he's gotta count as a comeback player then right?

If he doesn't count as a rookie even though hasn't played yet, he's gotta count as a comeback player then right? yeah, 'comeback' is definitely very subjective so I could see him getting some votes, and there isn't anything for breakout players, so why not? as to whether he counts as a rookie, I'm not sure if the NFL (or AP) uses an official definition, MLB and NHL both have definitions based on time spent in the top league, but that's a little different because of the minor league systems, but who knows, maybe he would qualify

Cherry 1,302 Posted May 31, 2016 In order for a DT to win MVP he'd probably have to get like 30 sacks lol Why I ended up taking Gurley. Donald is on a Watt-type level but there is no way he wins MVP barring something ridiculous. Even when Watt was racking up 20 sacks and just being a complete monster he still fell short. Donald would need Madden stats.
BJORN 679 Posted May 31, 2016 (edited) MVP: Philip Rivers -- Reunited with Ken Whisenhunt, a healthy offensive line, and hopefully a functional run game. Rivers could have a big enough year to warrant MVP. He just needs to be consistent and have a reasonably functional offense around him. OPOTY: Keenan Allen -- He was absolutely stellar last season before his injury. Can he be relied on to stay healthy? Probably not but if he does....look out. DPOTY: Jason Verrett -- Same story as Keenan, has looked great but has had trouble staying on the field. Maybe, Denzel Perryman really breaks out this year. This is very optimistic thinking for any of them to be in the running for this title. OROTY: Hunter Henry -- Not really much of a shot at this as he will be splitting time with Gates. DROTY: Joey Bosa -- Bosa moves all over the defense and does it all well. Fills up the stat sheet and makes big plays. CPOTY: Keenan Allen Edited May 31, 2016 by BJABY
Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted June 1, 2016 MVP: Aaron Rodgers. I think he has to be in the discussion every year. With everyone healthy on the offense and a new weapon like Jared Cook, I see no reason Aaron can't return to form. OPOTY: Eddie Lacy. Dude is looking good. If we actually feed him the rock enough times, he could do some serious damage. If he is under utilized again, maybe it's time to kick McCarthy to the curb. DPOTY: Clay Matthews. He has too many injuries and isn't effective ENOUGH consistently through the year to win the award in my opinion. But we did bolster the line in front of him through the draft and he shoul dbe seeing most of his snaps at OLB, so he will have a chance. OROTY: Trevor Davis. Don't really think we have a contender here, but.. I guess if I have to pick someone... lol DROTY: Kenny Clark. He will be given the chance to start right away. I don't know if he will win the job, but he will have the chance. CPOTY: Jordy Nelson. Great candidate for this a year after tearing his ACL and teaming up with arguably the best QB in the game. Thanatos 2,847 Posted June 2, 2016 The only player in the league that's on Watt's level is Von Miller, cut it out lol. I don't agree. Luke, Von, Donald and JJ Watt are all very close. The gap was closed even further this past year. Mack would be my #5 and he might go as high as #1 after next year, just need more than one year from him. Piggly Wiggly 960 Posted February 13, 2017 MVP: Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. OPOY: Gronk DPOY: Jamie Collins OROY: Malcolm Mitchell DROY: Cyrus Jones CPOY: Dion Lewis Jamie Collins Gronk Malcolm Mitchell had a really solid season actually and made some key plays in the SB, but would have to give OROY to Joe Thuney. Not shocked that Cyrus Jones didn't really get defensive snaps due to the CB depth on the team, but he was a bit of a liability on special teams. I'm interested to see how he performs in the next preseason.
