Dez Bryant sued for $246,000 in jewelry

As Rosenthal pointed out this morning, Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant may shop wherever he wants to shop.

But it’s important that he pay for whatever he buys.

PFT has learned that Bryant has been sued by a jeweler who allegedly produced several custom items for Bryant in 2010. Per the complaint filed today in the District Court of Dallas, Texas, A+A Diamonds, Ltd. d/b/a Rafaello & Co. alleges that Bryant received $267,000 worth of jewelry — and that he has paid only $21,000.

This means that (abacus engaged) Bryant owes $246,000.

Bryant allegedly made multiple purchases, before and after the 2010 draft. On January 22, 2010, he bought $75,000 worth of jewelry. On February 8, 2010, he made a whopping $144,000 purchase, including a $60,000 custom charm. On February 16, 2010, he purchased $25,000 more in jewelry. On May 24, 2010, Bryant purchased a $23,000 diamond bracelet.

Attached to the complaint are a purchase order supposedly signed by Bryant, along with the various invoices.

Bryant signed a contract last year with $8.5 million in guaranteed money, so he can afford to pay his bills. It’s unclear why he didn’t.

Why do all the extremely, super-talented receivers have to be fucking retards? This kid needs to hang out with Miles more often.

This is why you never waste money for a receiver with character issues. If he's a diva you can easily get a better player and teammate in the later rounds.

Updating a previous item, two lawsuits from jewelry stores now allege that Dez Bryant owes over $500,000 in unpaid purchases.

The first suit claimed Bryant owed $246,000. The latest accuses him of failing to pay $293,000 worth of jewels and unpaid sporting event tickets. Bryant co-signed the items with his adviser, David Wells, who allegedly feared losing Bryant as a client and knew he'd hit it rich in the NFL. All of the purchases were made prior to Bryant's rookie season, and many before the draft. Source: Dallas Morning News

The only thing this tells me is he's 1. Not very responsible and 2. He's being poorly advised and has surrounded himself with the wrong people who handle his money.

A landlord in Stillwater, Oklahoma sued Dez Bryant in January of 2010 for damages and failure to pay rent.

Noticing a pattern here? The Deion Sanders flap started because Bryant backed out of an endorsement deal with Under Armour only to keep the sporting goods company's money. He has also failed to repay more than $800,000 worth of jewelry and sporting event tickets. As Sanders suggested, Bryant's word means absolutely nothing. Talent is the trump card with Bryant, but he desperately needs help learning how to be a pro. Source: Tulsa World

Judging by the second article regarding his nonpayment of over $600,000 in jewelry, I'm beginning to suspect David Wells more and more. This sounds like a problem he's created for Bryant.

1. For those who are praising him, I had him in Fantasy last year and it was a mistake.

2. This guy needs to get his act together. What the he'll is he doing buying that much jewlery anyway?

He was a third WR option, man lol. He MIGHT be worth picking this year though.

Everyone knows that there is a direct relationship between the amount of "bling" and your cool factor.

MattMosley Talked to high-ranking Cows official today who said team feels "helpless" with Dez right now. Called him a "child."

According to court documents, Dez Bryant received roughly $200,000 in jewelry while playing at Oklahoma State.

We already knew that Bryant had the jewelry before last year's draft, so the court documents come as no surprise. It's a violation of college rules, of course, and Oklahoma State plans to conduct an investigation and then notify the NCAA. Now that Bryant is no longer in college, the NCAA will concentrate on the school's complicity in the violation.

Didn't he get 8.5 Million guaranteed? Start writing some checks, it's not hard.

Yup and like a 2 million roster bonus and another 2 mil signing bonus I believe. His total deal came up to like 12.5 million. He should have enough to pay it all off immediately. I don't know why he's taking this stuff on credit.

His adviser, David Wells, was on Ben and Skin radio today talking about it:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/03/30/dez-bryant-adviser-hes-in-a-dark-place/

With lawsuits piling up, it’s not a good time to be Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant right about now.

His adviser David Wells — not that David Wells — joined ESPN Radio in Dallas to answer a few questions about the young receiver.

Wells says Bryant wants to settle his debts, and is currently in a “dark place.†(That caused Tim McMahon to wonder if Bryant has paid his electricity bill.)

Wells helped Bryant get expensive jewelry when Bryant was still a student at Oklahoma State. He does not believe that is a NCAA violation. (Reasonable minds may disagree. Like the NCAA.)

Deion Sanders also sat in on the session, and we’ll pass along anything else newsworthy that was said. It’s not like we have actual football news to report on.

Which really blows for Oklahoma State. They couldn't even use him in his last year there due to his "friendship" with Primetime. Now they get to be suck the NCAA committee's dick again.

I kind of see Dez being the second coming of TO, but with less mouth.

Dez Bryant has settled with one of the jewelry stores to which he was indebted for $246,000.

He's still got one outstanding, but at least this is a step in the right direction. Bryant allegedly bought $267,000 worth of jewels from A+A Diamonds and Rafaello Company. To this point, he'd only paid off 8.2 percent of it.
