RazorStar 4,025 Posted July 9, 2011 I thought this would be interesting, since there is a lot of talk about the greatest team to ever win a Super Bowl, greatest team to never win one, but nothing about the lovable losers of the league. So I decided to create a system where we could find out the worst team in the league. From teams post merger years, I found their worst seasons, either by record or point differential. For some teams it was incredibly easy because they have one really bad season amidst a sea of good ones (Dallas, Green Bay), other were incredibly difficult because they had a few bad ones to choose from (Indianapolis, Buffalo, Cincy), or they had so many good seasons that their worst seasons don't look too too bad (Jacksonville, Baltimore, Pittsburgh). But anyway, with some searching I think I have a good list. 1990 New England Patriots (1-15) 1971 Buffalo Bills (1-13) 1996 New York Jets (1-15) 2007 Dolphins (1-15) 1999 Cleveland Browns (2-14) 2002 Cincinnati Bengals (2-14) 2007 Baltimore Ravens (5-11) 1988 Pittsburgh Steelers (5-11) 1991 Indianapolis Colts (1-15) 1973 Houston Oilers/Titans (1-13) 2005 Houston Texans (2-14) 1995 Jacksonville Jaguars (4-12) 2000 San Diego Chargers (1-15) 2006 Oakland Raiders (2-14) 2008 Kansas City Chiefs (2-14) 2010 Denver Broncos (4-12) 1998 Philadelphia Eagles (3-13) 1989 Dallas Cowboys (1-15) 1980 New York Giants (4-12) 1994 Washington Redskins (3-13) 2008 Detroit Lions (0-16) 1984 Minnesota Vikings (3-13) 1975 Chicago Bears (4-10) 1986 Green Bay Packers (4-12) 1976 Tampa Bay Bucs (0-14) 1980 New Orleans Saints (1-15) 2010 Carolina Panthers (2-14) 1987 Atlanta Falcons (3-12) 2000 Arizona Cardinals (3-13) 1992 Seattle Seahawks (2-14) 2009 St. Louis Rams (1-15) 2004 San Francisco 49ers (2-14) I'll be going through the 2011 regular season schedule using whatifsports to simulate the matches. After every regular season game is done the playoffs start. From there, the teams with the worst records move on, naturally. Tiebreakers will follow the NFL standard, with the worse team technically winning the tiebreaker. I'll start simming week 1 now. http://www.nfl.com/schedules
badgers 380 Posted July 9, 2011 I'm sorry I don't quite understand. You're trying to find the overall worst franchise in history? Wouldn't you have to simulate like 20 more seasons or something to get an accurate result?

RazorStar 4,025 Posted July 9, 2011 to Badgers: I'm trying to find the worst team. By season, people talk about the winless 76 Bucs and 08 Lions, but they might not be the worst teams ever. It's not worst franchise, because that's obviously the Cardinals. badgers 380 Posted July 9, 2011 Oh, now I understand. You're pitting the worst teams in each respective franchise's history against others in the 2011 schedule to see who is worst all time, right? Gotcha.

RazorStar 4,025 Posted July 10, 2011 Yeah the 88 Steelers are probably the 'best' worst team on here. 5-11 year, Rod Woodson, Hardy Nickerson were there, Greg Lloyd and Dirt Dawson were rookies, Mike Webster was at the end of his career, and career backup Bubby Brister was the starter at QB for some reason.
