RazorStar 4,025 Posted September 13, 2011 (edited) For those of you unaware of what is going on here, I'll do my best to explain. I rank QB's in this topic based on their passing prowess, over 16 weeks this list should balance out rather nicely, but right now it looks kind of funny. So, I do this based on YPA, Completion percentage and Touchdown to Interception Ratio. Basically if a QB can reach or exceed the Elite marks in all three of these categories, they are counted as an elite QB for the time being. This won't mean much since there's only been 1 week right now, but it'll look better at the end of the season. The Elite marks right now are: 65% Completion percent (This might change), 2.0 TD:INT ratio (Looks horrible right now, but the mark will be much better later in the season), and a 7.5 YPA (This will always remain consistent) There are the Terrible marks as well which are under 1 TD:INT ratio, under 57% completion percentage, and under 6.5 YPA. These numbers were determined by taking the average QB performance from last year, 61.5% Completion percentage, 1.57 TD-INT Ratio, and 7.09 YPA. These marks may change slightly, but for now it seems to be a solid baseline. With raw numbers, we had three elite quarterbacks last year, Tom Brady, Philip Rivers and Aaron Rodgers. One led the number one offense in the league, one had the highest TD:INT ratio of any QB who started the whole season, and the other helped his team to a super bowl victory. So yeah, I like to this is a pretty good indicator of talent. I hope this was explained sufficiently. Now then, using that I'll show you guys the results. I usually only put in guys who have enough passes to qualify for passer rating or have 100 pass attempts, but I made one exception for this week. Week 1 Rankings (Tiers are sorted by YPA) Elite (3/3 Green) Kevin Kolb Tom Brady Jay Cutler Matt Stafford Rex Grossman Aaron Rodgers Drew Brees Ryan Fitzpatrick Very Good (2/3 Green) Cam Newton Tony Romo Chad Henne Matt Hasslebeck Joe Flacco Mark Sanchez Good (1/3 Green) Luke McCown Philip Rivers Slightly Flawed (2/3 Green 1/3 Red) Matt Schaub Bruce Gradkowski Andy Dalton Hit or Miss (1/3 Green 1/3 Red) Matt Ryan Alex Smith Josh Freeman Jason Campbell Average (All White) Below Average (1/3 Red) Kyle Orton Matt Cassel Does One Thing Well (1/3 Green 2/3 Red) Eli Manning Kerry Collins Mike Vick Colt McCoy Tarvaris Jackson Pretty Bad (2/3 Red) Ben Roethlisberger Sam Bradford Donovan McNabb Terrible (3/3 Red) Derek Anderson and Jimmy Clausen are on the bench, thank god. SteVo+ 3,702 Posted September 13, 2011 Except for the fact that Cassel doesn't look completely incompetent in Razor's ranking. Eh, like Razor said in the shoutbox, Cassel tends to do well in TD:INT ratio because he's too much of a pussy to take chances. And besides, everybody at TGP knows how much Cassel sucks anyway.
Patriots2994 43 Posted September 14, 2011 This list looks pretty good, but I have to admit I laughed when I saw Grossman at the top tier, not because he didn't earn it this week (it's arguable whether he did or not), but because Redskins fans in my hometown would brag endlessly because of it. I'm very excited to see his ranking drop as the season progresses.
.AirMcNair. 1,232 Posted September 14, 2011 Matt Hasselbeck very good? Kenny Britt saving his ass twice doesn't constitute as very good(well, on the 2nd TD Matt made a solid throw, but Kenny had to make one hell of a catch and then some acrobatics to get his feet in), IMO. That's the problem with stat based systems. Not to mention, he missed a wide open Kenny Britt on the game losing INT. There wasn't a Jaguar within 10 yards of Kenny and he overthrows him by 15. Ugh. RazorStar 4,025 Posted September 19, 2011 (edited) Another week down, and these rankings should start looking a lot better than week 1. It'll be a while before it settles down into something really accurate. Week 2: Elite (3/3 Green) Tom Brady Aaron Rodgers Matt Stafford Drew Brees Jason Campbell Very Good (2/3 Green) Tony Romo Kevin Kolb Matt Schaub Matt Hasslebeck Philip Rivers Rex Grossman Andy Dalton Alex Smith Good (1/3 Green) Eli Manning Mark Sanchez Josh Freeman Ryan Fitzpatrick Slightly Flawed (2/3 Green 1/3 Red) Hit or Miss (1/3 Green 1/3 Red) Cam Newton Ben Roethlisberger Jay Cutler Michael Vick Kyle Orton Joe Flacco Sam Bradford Tarvaris Jackson Average (All White) Matt Ryan Below Average (1/3 Red) Chad Henne Does One Thing Well (1/3 Green 2/3 Red) Colt McCoy Kerry Collins Pretty Bad (2/3 Red) Donovan McNabb Matt Cassel Terrible (3/3 Red) Luke McCown Edited September 20, 2011 by RazorStar Updated for Monday Night

.AirMcNair. 1,232 Posted September 19, 2011 (edited) Out of curiosity, where is Vick red and where is he green? I'm obviously not Razor, but looking at Vick's stats, his AVG and Comp % are definitely below average and his TD/INT ratio is good. Edit: Hasselbeck is actually deserving of that very good rank this week. Played a very good game. Edited September 19, 2011 by .AirMcNair.
RazorStar 4,025 Posted September 19, 2011 Completion Percentage is in the red at 55% 57% would be the beginning of the white, TD:INT is in the green. His YPA is hovering in the average zone (7.15 YPA)
Guest Phailadelphia Posted September 19, 2011 Man, Romo has got to be RIGHT THERE under elite tier.
RazorStar 4,025 Posted September 19, 2011 62.32% Completion percentage. The mark to shoot for is 65. The averages for all QB's are sort of ridiculous at the moment. (62.12% Completion percentage, 1.84 TD:INT Ratio, 7.62 YPA)
Glanvilles Grits 142 Posted September 19, 2011 Matt Ryan has got to be real close to bumping up into the good spot. Dude threw 4 touchdowns against a defense that has 3 of the best corners in the league. Even with the 2 interceptions I suppose.

housemd 338 Posted September 20, 2011 Poor Luke McCown...what are Cam Newton's stats...?
Maverick 791 Posted September 20, 2011 I'm happy where Romo is. As far other QBs, I definitely expect Campbell to fall out of the elite tier. Kolb is surprising many, and if things continue to go well for him I'll have to eat some crow there.
Thanatos 2,847 Posted September 21, 2011 Poor Luke McCown...what are Cam Newton's stats...? Newton would be in the red in TD:INT, with 3:4, (not counting his two rushing TDs for passer rating, ofc). Green would be YPA with 83 attempts for 854 yards, I think, so that's >10 YPA. Average would be completion percentage, as it was at 67% in week 1 and 61% in week 2, I bet its somewhere around 63% after both weeks, (37 attempts in week 1, I think, and 46 in week 2). RazorStar 4,025 Posted September 26, 2011 Yep. He may have 5 INT's on the season (on pace for 26), but 11 TD's (on pace for 59) will cancel that out.
