Per Rotoworld.com:

The Celtics have reportedly agreed on a sign-and-trade with the Rockets that will send them SG Courtney Lee for PF JaJuan Johnson.

The Celtics have had their eyes on Lee for weeks and were finally able to pull off a deal. Lee will likely backup Jason Terry in Boston, although a final decision on who starts may not come until training camp. Johnson joins a very crowded front court in Houston, which could be bad news for his career. The Celtics pulled off a steal here, as the rich continue to get richer. Jul 19 - 4:43 PM

There is one scenario this writer is overlooking. Lee can play PG and SG. He'll likely backup Rondo and will find plenty of minutes since he can play 1-2 and maybe 3 against smaller SFs. I don't see Avery Bradley losing the starting gig because Doc is extremely loyal. Unless Bradley can't find his shooting touch, he'll start at 2.

lol Courtney Lee.

Can't believe fucking Rod Thorn traded Ryan Anderson + VC for Lee + Rafer Alston. Brutal. Thorn had some good moments, but overall, he was just utter dogshit. Imagine if he was still GM today? Nets would be going into Brooklyn with a bunch of scrubs.

Per Rotoworld.com:

Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday that the Cavs are "eager" to strike a deal for Andrew Bynum as a part of the Dwight Howard trade so long as Bynum is willing to extend.

Of course. Bynum would be a huge pickup for a franchise in need of game-changing players, and they'd need the guarantee because there will be plenty of places for Bynum to jump to when he's a free agent after this season. The Lakers will only grant access to Bynum if the framework of the deal is agreed to before-hand, and according to prior reports Howard is willing to extend in L.A. There have been reports out of Cleveland downplaying their interest, for what it's worth. Stay tuned as this saga drags on and on and on. And on. Jul 19 - 9:04 PM

Dwight Howard's agent said Thursday night that despite reports that have said otherwise, that his client fully prepares to test free agency after this season.

This is response to RealGM.com's report that Howard would agree to an extension with the Lakers, and it's worth noting that the website broke the story last season that Howard would not opt out of his deal. It's a predictable response from Howard's agent in order to maintain leverage, and we wouldn't read too much into it either way. Jul 19 - 11:11 PM

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/blog/eye-on-basketball/19663560/nba-releases-official-2012-13-schedule

The NBA officially released its 2012-13 schedule on Thursday.

The league returns to its traditional 82-game slate after the lockout cut the 2011-12 schedule to just 66 games. Here's a link to the full schedule on NBA.com.

This year's schedule begins on Tuesday, October 30, 2012.

The 2012 NBA champion Miami Heat will begin their title defense by hosting the Boston Celtics at American Airlines Arena on Oct. 30. Opening night will feature two other games: The Washington Wizards at the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Dallas Mavericks at the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers will then travel to face the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday, Oct. 31. Also on Halloween, the San Antonio Spurs will visit the New Orleans Hornets.

On Thursday, Nov. 1, the New York Knicks will open their season against the crosstown Brooklyn Nets and the Western Conference champion Oklahoma City Thunder will visit the Spurs.

The highlight of the league's calendar is always Christmas Day, which will feature five games this season. The Christmas Day headliner will feature the Heat hosting the Thunder in a rematch of the 2011 NBA Finals.

The other four Christmas Day games: the Celtics at the Nets, the Knicks at the Lakers, the Houston Rockets at the Chicago Bulls and the Denver Nuggets at the Los Angeles Clippers.

Magic name Jacque Vaughn coach

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Jacque Vaughn has been hired as the Orlando Magic's next head coach, the team said Saturday morning.

Vaughn, 37, who will replace the fired Stan Van Gundy, has spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs, with whom he won an NBA title in 2007 before retiring as a player.

The Magic have been searching for a coach since firing Van Gundy on May 21 -- the same day they parted ways with general manager Otis Smith. Orlando hired Rob Hennigan as its new general manager on June 20.

"We are beyond excited to name Jacque Vaughn as our head coach," Hennigan said in a news release. "As we navigated through our coaching search, we quickly saw that Jacque's spirit and leadership strengths made him the clear choice."

Vaughn's hire comes as the Magic have pulled back on trade talks concerning Dwight Howard despite the center's insistence he still wants to be dealt.

Howard reiterated as much to Hennigan during a meeting Wednesday in Los Angeles, telling the GM he would leave Orlando as a free agent after next season.

Vaughn will be introduced formally at a news conference Monday afternoon.

Vaughn becomes the 10th coach in team history. While with the Spurs he worked alongside Hennigan, who was working then in the team's basketball operations department.

"We are confident that his diligence, attention to detail and communication style will help establish the bedrock of our culture moving forward," Hennigan said in the statement. "His commitment and passion to building a sustainable program will help steer our organization for years to come."

Vaughn played the final three seasons of his 12-year career with the Spurs. He was point guard Tony Parker's backup when San Antonio won the NBA title in 2007.

The former Kansas Jayhawks star spent his first four seasons with the Utah Jazz, who took him with the 27th pick in the 1997 draft. He also played for Atlanta, Orlando and New Jersey, averaging 4.5 points and 2.5 assists in 776 career games. He retired in 2009.

Vaughn is No. 2 on the all-time assists list at Kansas with 804 over four years.

Jazz assistant Jeff Hornacek and Suns player development coach Lindsey Hunter had also been candidates for the Magic's vacancy and had reportedly been expected to interview earlier this month.

Along with Hornacek and Hunter, the Magic were also said to be considering Warriors assistant Michael Malone and Pacers assistant Brian Shaw, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Timberwolves sign F Andrei Kirilenko.

Kirilenko is expected to receive a two-year, $20 million contract, with the second season being a player option. He's spent time with CSKA Moscow, but now he'll return to the NBA where he should immediately start for the Timberwolves. Fantasy owners should take note of his versatile game, as he has career averages of 12.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 2.0 blocks on 47 percent shooting.

I'm fine with Vaughn. Shaw/Malone were my preferences, but he works for the Spurs and we're obviously going for the SA/OKC mold.

T-Mac and Robinson are about to sign with the Bulls.

The Atlanta Hawks today completed a sign-and-trade transaction that sends Willie Green to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for the rights to Sofoklis Schortsanitis, it was announced by President of Basketball Operations/GM Danny Ferry. The move also creates a trade exception for the Hawks.

A nine-year NBA veteran, Green has averaged 9.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists over his career. In 53 games played for the Atlanta Hawks last season, Green tallied 7.6 points in 17.4 minutes per game.

Doc Rivers said on Wednesday that although Ray Allen wasn't a huge fan of Rajon Rondo, he left the Celtics for Miami because of the decisions made by Rivers.

"People can use all the Rondo stuff – and it was there, no doubt about that – but it was me more than Rondo," said Rivers. "I'm the guy who gave Rondo the ball. I'm the guy who decided that Rondo needed to be more of the leader of the team. That doesn't mean guys liked that – and Ray did not love that – because Rondo now had the ball all the time." It also didn't help that Rivers brought Allen off the bench behind Avery Bradley, either. It really doesn't matter anymore, but it's clear that Allen was not thrilled with Rondo's role as the Celtics' point guard and ball handler.

Contrary to media accounts in which Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak said last week that the Lakers had begun discussions about an extension with Andrew Bynum, his agent said no such talks have been made.

"[The discussion] was cordial and it was productive, but it had nothing to do with an extension," said Bynum's agent. According to figures provided by independent collective bargaining agreement expert Larry Coon, Bynum could add three years and $57.1 million to his existing contract if he signed an extension. By comparison, if Bynum re-signed after next season, he could command a maximum five-year, $101.9 million deal. In all likelihood, Bynum will play out this season's trade drama and look to re-sign the $100+ million deal at the end of the year, whether it be with the Lakers or another team as part of a Dwight Howard trade. Stay tuned.

John Wall said "I want to be the savior" when asked about his future with the Wizards.

"You wanna do it all," he said. "You wanna be an All-Star. You wanna be one of the top five best point guards. You wanna make the playoffs, and get this city back to where they know they can be. When you have the playoffs, I heard how crazy it could be when everybody is wearing all white. That’s what I want to get to. I want to be the savior." It's a fascinating quote for a number of reasons, and the one thing Wall certainly isn't lacking is confidence. With more talent around him, we're fully expecting Wall to build on his numbers from last season when he averaged 16.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 1.4 steals on 42.3 percent shooting.

Wall has so much potential, his passing numbers are pretty good as they are, they'd be even better with less TOs if he had a better supporting cast.

He won't be able to truly impact his team until he develops a jump shot, and becomes much more efficient.
