Vin+ 3,121 Posted November 15, 2013 So sayeth Ian Rapoport. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Steelers coach Mike Tomlin's job is safe for 2014. Tomlin has overseen a steady decline since the Steelers lost Super Bowl XLV, but it's had far more to do with the team's aging and injury-prone roster than his coaching. Per Rapoport, the Rooney family still "believes in stability," and doesn't want to make a change regardless of this season's results. Tomlin should be safe barring an all-out meltdown, but will be firmly on the hot seat in 2014. Source: Ian Rapoport on Twitter
BigBen07 285 Posted November 15, 2013 (edited) Boom. That paragraph sums my feelings up perfectly. Unless this happens again next season, or we go 3-13, Tomln SHOULD stay. Edited November 15, 2013 by BigBen07
CribbsForTheWin 117 Posted November 15, 2013 He's only their third coach since 1969 when Chuck Noll took over. I never really thought he'd be on the hot seat this year. Next year I can see it. Stability is a great thing in the NFL. Yes he took over a great team, but he is a good coach. I would have to believe if he got canned from the Steelers he would be a HC for another team right away. He wouldnt become a coordinator or positions coach like some others have done. He has had success in this league.

Things will be fine. It may take a couple of seasons, but I'm sure the Steelers will be back on their feet. Now if the Roethlisberger trade 'rumors' would stop... BwareDWare94 723 Posted November 15, 2013 When they finally drafted the pieces to fix their OL, they've had injuries. it's just unfortunate. Haley's gotta go, though.

theMileHighGuy 656 Posted November 16, 2013 (edited) Shouldn't Tomlin bear some of the blame for an aging and injury prone roster? How much say does Colbert have between the Rooneys and Tomlin? If he has any at all he should have been gone years ago. Pittsburgh hasn't drafted well at all outside of pouncey and the few later-round hits on receivers. Have they drafted a good defensive player since Woodley? And what was that 2007? Edited November 16, 2013 by theMileHighGuy
BigBen07 285 Posted December 9, 2013 Initially I was going to cut him some slack after this year due to the Steelers struggles, but after the shot he pulled in the Ravens game and costing the team a pick, I'd fire him now. There's no room for that shit at all.

Timmons was the same year. 1st round 2009 - Keenan Lewis 3rd round Also want to point out they got Antonio Brown 6th round, 2010 Not excusing Tomlin just stating facts Edited December 9, 2013 by Bay
RazorStar 4,025 Posted December 9, 2013 Keenan Lewis, now a Saint. Cam Heyward isn't bad, and Jason Worilds is playing like a legitimate OLB.

Sarge+ 3,436 Posted December 9, 2013 (edited) Talent isn't an issue. Obviously the Steelers have had great draft picks under Tomlin... so much so that there is ZERO excuse for this team to go 8-8 last year and likely worse this year. Ben has been lights out over the past 6 games or so... that loss yesterday was bad because when Ben plays that well, we almost never lose. We should never lose when Ben plays that well, especially given the weather conditions. The Steelers still have more than enough talent to be a playoff team, but Tomlin is horrible at clock management AND horrible as a game day coach. He looked great when he was riding Cowher, Ben, and LeBeau's coattails to a Super Bowl and an appearance in another... but since that Super Bowl loss to Green Bay, what have the Steelers done? Get diced up by Tim fucking Tebow in the playoffs, then miss the playoffs entirely the next two years. That's simply unacceptable for a team with this kind of talent. He should be gone. I also want to point out that at no time under Tomlin have we had a good OL. Yes some of that has to do with injuries, but they have brought talented guys in and STILL fail to put together a good OL. Ben holds the ball, yes, but that's no excuse for routinely failing to block in the run game. Their entire OL scouting and development is dog shit.
