Signings and Stuff:

Browns agreed to terms with ILB Karlos Dansby, formerly of the Cardinals, on a four-year, $24 million contract.

The deal includes $10 million in the first year and $14 million guaranteed. The Browns are paying a hefty premium for a 32-year-old player that only garnered a one-year, $2.25 million contract a year ago, but they are getting an upgrade on D'Qwell Jackson. New coach Mike Pettine can plug Dansby into his 3-4 scheme and expect plus grades against the run as well as the pass. Dansby piled up 114 tackles, 6.5 sacks, four interceptions and 19 pass breakups as a key cog in the desert last year.

Browns signed SS Donte Whitner to a four-year, $28 million contract.

The Browns replace T.J. Ward with Whitner, a two-time Pro Bowler and a true intimidater over the middle. He was ProFootballFocus' No. 6 safety in the league last season. With Joe Haden and rumors of a Darrelle Revis pursuit, the Browns secondary is looking fearsome.

Bears signed DE Lamarr Houston, formerly of the Raiders, to a five-year, $35 million contract.

Houston will be Julius Peppers' replacement. The deal includes $15 million guaranteed, and $21 million over the first three years. It's a pretty penny for a player with only 16 career sacks, but Houston is coming off a breakout year, and is still just 27 (in June). Considering all the Raiders' cap space, it's surprising they'd let Houston get away.

Cardinals agreed to terms with LT Jared Veldheer, formerly of the Raiders, on a five-year, $35 million contract.

Veldheer's signing with Arizona was one of the worst kept secrets over eval tampering weekend. He'll slide in on Carson Palmer's blind side, replacing the underwhelming duo of Bradley Sowell and Nate Potter. Veldheer is an elite pass protector and is built like the Hulk. He'll have his hands full in the NFC West with the likes of Robert Quinn, Aldon Smith, and the number of Seahawks pass rushers.

Bucs signed TE Brandon Myers, formerly of the Giants, to a two-year, $4 million contract.

The Bucs needed an upgrade on pass-catching specialist Tim Wright. They find it in uninspiring yet inexpensive Myers, a plodding in-line tight end that posted a 47-522-4 line with the Giants last season. He's best served as part of a committee.

Raiders agreed to terms with LT Rodger Saffold, formerly of the Rams, on a five-year, $42.5 million contract.

Saffold gets $21 million guaranteed, an astronomical amount for a player who hasn't played a full 16-game season since his 2010 rookie year. The Raiders had to overpay to get Saffold to come to Oakland where he's going to play left tackle. Second-year OT Menelik Watson will try and fill in at right tackle.

Titans agreed to terms with WR/PR Dexter McCluster, formerly of the Chiefs, on a three-year contract.

The deal is worth "up to" $12 million, and includes $4.5 million guaranteed. It's surprising that McCluster was the Titans' first order of business, as receiver is one of the few places they have depth. Either way, McCluster is a nifty No. 3/4 pass catcher, and a game-breaker on special teams. Although he's coming off a career year as a wideout, returns is where he'll make his impact in Tennessee.

Dolphins signed OT Branden Albert, formerly of the Chiefs, to a five-year, $46 million contract.

The deal includes a whopping $25 million guaranteed. It's a huge price to pay for a player who's always been short of elite, but the Dolphins had essentially no choice considering the beating Ryan Tannehill took in 2013. Albert has missed seven games with injury over the past two seasons, but will stabilize the Dolphins' blindside when he's on the field. He turns 30 in November.

Colts signed DE Arthur Jones to a five-year, $30 million contract.

The Baltimore-to-Indy pipeline continues under former Ravens defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano. Jones is a pocket-pusher that will play with Ricky Jean-Francois, a better run-stuffer. The 27-year-old end started in 19 games the past two seasons with the Ravens, compiling 100 tackles and 8.5 sacks. The Colts continue to spend freely to upgrade their defense.

Dolphins signed DT Earl Mitchell to a four-year, $16 million contract.

The deal includes $9 million guaranteed. Mitchell, 26, started 14 games last season, racking up 48 tackles and 1.5 sacks. As an ideal one-gap 4-3 player, he was widely considered one of the top "sleepers" in free agency. The Dolphins outbid the Chargers to land Mitchell.

Buccaneers sign DT Clinton Mcdonald for four years, $12 million.

It is quite a turnaround for a player released by the Seahawks during training camp last season. McDonald was re-signed by the Hawks after Week 1 and posted 5.5 sacks and 42 tackles in the regular season.

Jaguars agreed to terms with LG Zane Beadles, formerly of the Broncos, on a five-year, $30 million contract.

GM Dave Caldwell stated all along that his top priority was to upgrade the interior of Jacksonville's offensive line. Beadles had a down year in 2013 but is normally a well above-average pass protector. He and LT Luke Joeckel will hold down the left side of the Jaguars' line for years to come. Beadles got $13 million guaranteed.

Redskins sign G Shawn Lauvao for four years, $17 million.

Lauvao missed the beginning of last season with an ankle injury, but was an every down player for the Browns beginning Week 5. He struggled as a run blocker in 2013, but has been a solid blocker in his career and should add beef to a smallish Washington offensive line.

Falcons agreed to terms with DT Paul Soliai, formerly of the Dolphins, on a five-year, $33 million contract.

The deal includes $14 million guaranteed. It's a hefty commitment for a player now on the wrong side of 30, but the Falcons are living up to their pledge of beefing up and getting tougher. The Falcons employ a 4-3 base, but are reportedly considering implementing more 3-4 looks this season. Soliai can man the nose in either alignment. Soliai played for Falcons DC Mike Nolan in Miami.

Falcons agreed to terms with RG Jon Asamoah, formerly of the Chiefs.

Asamoah signing with the Falcons was another badly kept secret from the legal tampering period. The nasty guard with a mean streak reunites with ex-Chiefs GM Scott Pioli, who drafted Asamoah in Kansas City. The Falcons interior of the offensive line shapes up like this: LG Justin Blalock, C Joe Hawley, and RG Asamoah. GM Thomas Dimitroff still needs to find an offensive tackle.

49ers signed S Antoine Bethea to a four-year, $26 million contract.

Bethea will be asked to step in and fill hard-hitting Donte Whitner's shoes. He's definitely capable, but isn't a bone-crushing hitter and is coming off a down year that saw him struggle in coverage. Still, the 29-year-old Bethea is a nice complement to second-year FS Eric Reid. He's an all-around player.

Giants agreed to terms with DE/OLB O'Brien Schofield, formerly of the Seahawks, on a two-year, $8 million contract.

Schofield played outside linebacker in Arizona and Seattle during his first four seasons, but will likely play with his hand in the dirt in New York. He has 11.5 career sacks across 40 games. Schofield will also contribute on special teams.

Redskins agreed to terms with LB Adam Hayward, formerly of the Bucs, on a three-year contract.

Hayward, 30 in June, doesn't play much defense but is a stalwart on special teams. He racked up eight tackles on coverage units last season. Hayward's missed just five games in seven seasons. He'll also back up at the inside 'backer spot.

Falcons agreed to terms with DE Tyson Jackson, formerly of the Chiefs, on a five-year, $25 million contract.

It's a massive commitment for a former first-round bust, but Jackson is coming off a career year. The Falcons are going on a spending spree as they follow through on their word to toughen and reinforce one of the league's softest defensive lines. He was drafted by new Falcons assistant GM Scott Pioli. The Falcons had to add bodies up front, but Jackson could prove to be one of the more regrettable signings of Day 1.

Ravens re-signed LT Eugene Monroe to a five-year, $37.5 million deal.

Colts re-signed CB Vontae Davis.

Owner Jim Irsay broke the news. Terms are not yet available. Monday reports had Davis getting away from Indy, but the Colts were never going to let a player they surrendered a 2013 second-rounder for get away without a fight. Davis can be a bit of a knucklehead, but is a legitimately elite player when on his game. He was in 2013, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 3 corner.

Giants agreed to terms with G/T Geoff Schwartz, formerly of the Chiefs.

49ers acquired QB Blaine Gabbert from the Jaguars for a sixth-round pick.

We're stunned the Jags could get even that. Perhaps the biggest first-round bust of the post-lockout era, Gabbert withers in the face of pressure like few in recent memory. That being said, he's now the favorite for No. 2 duties in San Francisco. Colt McCoy is a free agent. If anyone can salvage Gabbert's career, it's coach Jim Harbaugh, but there's no reason to believe Gabbert will ever develop into even a serviceable backup. He just doesn't have an NFL skill-set.

Eagles signed S Malcolm Jenkins to a three-year, $16.25 million contract.

Broncos agreed to terms with SS T.J. Ward, formerly of the Browns.

Giants agreed to terms with RB Rashad Jennings, formerly of the Raiders.

Jennings was supposed to be a free-agent priority for the Raiders, but they let him walk without much of a fight. According to CSN Bay Area, the Giants offered "a lot more." Jennings is two weeks shy of his 29th birthday, but has just 484 career touches. He averaged 4.5 yards per carry last season, and is an excellent pass catcher. He's a nice insurance policy for David Wilson.

Vikings agreed to terms with DT Linval Joseph, formerly of the Giants.

Joseph, 25, started 46-of-48 games for the Giants the past three seasons and racked up nine sacks while averaging 55 tackles per year. He's equally strong against the run and as a pass rusher. With Kevin Williams, Fred Evans, and Letroy Guion all free agents, the Vikings were starving for a starter to plug in next to Sharrif Floyd. Joseph was considered a priority for the Giants.

Bears signed former Panthers' LB Jordan Seen to a one-year deal.

Senn recorded seven tackles as primarily a special teams player for Carolina in 2013. Senn is a solid special teams addition for Chicago and should be given a shot to earn a bigger defensive role for 2014.

Bears signed former Giant S Ryan Mundy to a two-year deal.

Mundy started ten games for the Giants in 2013, recording 77 sacks, one sack, and one interception. Mundy will be given the opportunity to earn a starting role in Chicago, but he fits best in a third safety/special teams role.

I'd just like to say Jonathan Babineaux is one of the most underrated and classy guys in the league.

Truly..the best off-season move to keep him today.

Steelers agreed to terms with FS Mike Mitchell, formerly of the Panthers.

Mitchell, 27 in June, had a number of teams hot on his trail. The Steelers are replacing an aging Ryan Clark with a young, hard hitter in Mitchell at free safety next to Troy Polamalu. Mitchell is coming off a career-year, and it'll be interesting to see if he was a product of the Panthers' stout front seven. The talent on the defensive line in Pittsburgh isn't comparable. Mitchell can cover and play the run.

So many teams overpaying...wow

Welcome to free agency.

Buccaneers agreed to terms with CB Alterraun Verner on a four-year, $26.5 million contract with $14 million guaranteed.

It's a bargain price all things considered, and make the Packers' four-year, $39 million deal with Sam Shields look like a severe overpay. Still only 25, Verner was long underappreciated in Tennessee before his 2013 breakout season, shutting down right corner and intercepting five passes. He's considered a superior fit to Darrelle Revis in Lovie Smith and Leslie Frazier's preferred Cover 2. Verner also comes at well under half the price of Revis.

Saints agreed to terms with S Jairus Byrd, formerly of the Bills, on a six-year contract.

Jaguars signed RB Toby Gerhart.

Saints got Byrd, Bucs got Johnson and Verner... Panthers lost Mitchell, Senn, possibly Ginn and Smith. What are you doing Gettleman? Just overpaid Greg Hardy.

Chargers agreed to terms with RB Donald Brown, formerly of the Colts, on a three-year, $10.5 million contract.
The deal includes $4 million guaranteed. With the Chargers already having Danny Woodhead and Ryan Mathews, this one is a definite head scratcher. Mathews is coming off a breakout year, while Woodhead is due just $1.75 million after another strong season. It's worth noting that Bolts GM Tom Telesco is the Colts' former VP of football operations. He clearly has a soft spot for "Dammit Donald," who seemed like a lost cause until picking up the pieces for Trent Richardson last season. He'll likely serve as a deluxe Ronnie Brown, catching passes and picking up blitzes, though he's never been a terribly effective pass protector.

Broncos trying to buy a Superbowl.

lol or they're just adding talented players who want to win. Everyone thought they were building a "dream team" last year and all their FA were studs. Elway has turned out to be one of the best FO guys in the league

Broncos trying to buy a Superbowl.

lol or they're just adding talented players who want to win.

If you've seen the last two AFC Championship games, you'll see that Talib doesn't exactly have the biggest desire to win.

My comments from a thread in late January...

Key UFAs to pass on:

- Aqib Talib

- Brandon Spikes

Talib would only be worth re-signing if he signs for a reasonable amount of money (doubtful). If the guy wasn't injury prone, the Pats would probably be willing to back up the Brinks truck for him. Fuck him if he's just gonna sit out the majority of AFC Championship games with minor injuries.

Bottom line is, he got $57 million over 6 years with $26 million guaranteed. Good for him. He wasn't likely going to get that much money from any other team, especially not the Pats. The Pats would never blow a huge amount of money on a player that refuses to go back on the field after taking a lick... in the biggest game of the year up to that point.

Elway hasn't been wrong in any decisions yet. He has built a powerhouse who is getting better every year. Our cap money for next year is ridiculous!

Powerhouses don't get blown the fuck out 43-8 in a Super Bowl. :yao:

Where was your team during that game? Oh probably sitting on their fucking coaches that's right. Denver and Seattle are the 2 best teams in the league again this year.

Yeah, sitting on their couches laughing their fucking balls off at the Broncos getting exposed and gutted like cattle.

Broncos planning on losing by only 30 the next go around?

Best two teams in the league was Seattle and SF. NFC Championship was the SB, brah.
